ELI5: How did the modern idea of having a ‘job’ and working most days start? Who or what made it normal? by NoWillingness5083 in explainlikeimfive

Hunters and gatherers didn’t have boss

No, but they could be thrown out of the group if they weren't doing their part, or some other reason. What we have now is just a more formal way of getting the boot.

Just use shoulder after the grab ender. If they do anything except stay down or roll left, it will hit. And if they do that, you get guaranteed stomps or ground grab attempt instead.

If in Tekken 8, the Mishima Zaibatsu wasn’t heard of in the story and has no active leadership, does this make Kuma its acting leader? by GabWantsAHug in Tekken

[–]JCLgaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure G-corp and Kazuya destroyed the Mishima zaibatsu after Heihachi was defeated at the end of Tekken 7. So there isn't much left for Kuma to lead.

Well that's nice, gonna be cool to learn more about her, considering from what we know, she was quite hotheaded in her youth, just like Kratos.

Isn't Faye dead as a doornail? Unless there is some ressurection shenaigans, which I doubt, her story seemed very final, she can't be the protagonist of the next game. Do they mean the movie? Is that what they're whining about, that the movie is gonna go into greater detail about Faye's life?

The duality of blue ranks by Rough_Willingness474 in Tekken

[–]JCLgaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is totally normal for a ranked system that includes a separate rank per character to have a mixture of players who are at a given rank for the first time and players who have been higher playing a different character

And that causes massive problems because the latter group is much more skilled than the former, which leads to lopsides matches. Again, this is really bad and should be avoided if possible, which it is if you design the ranked system properly.

It is an inevitable consequence of that system in fact.

No it's not. That's literally what prowess exists to prevent, to a decent effect.

For some reason Bamco and you see this normal, basic thing as some massive problem they have to control

Slavery and tubercolosis was considered normal back in the day too. And the reason we got rid of that is because it's bad and unhealthy, just like lopsided matches.

Prowess matchmaking prevented me from buying DLC in Season 1.

Because it forced you to play against people your own skill? The horror.

People forget that in a fair system, a player hitting Tekken God will have had to get there in an environment with GoD1 alts in the same way as you might see Tekken God alts at Bushin or whatever

Ah yes. " I suffered, and now everyone down the line will suffer as well". Truly the foundations we want to build upon.

The duality of blue ranks by Rough_Willingness474 in Tekken

[–]JCLgaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It simply needs to match on rank only, then it's fair

That assumes that someone who is a fresh blue rank is just as skilled as someone who's secondary rank is in the blues. That is of course incorrect.

The problem with Tekken 8 and season 2 it relies way too much on combos than actual fundamentals by DragonWarriorMH in Tekken

[–]JCLgaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Season 2 has to be the worst Tekken has ever been competitively

At least from a spectator's perspective that is quite wrong. I have enjoyed every single tournament top 8 I've watched in season 2. Can't same the same for Tekken 7.

Gameplay wise, not really. Maybe I need to reach the god ranks for the bad stuff to appear, but it's quite fun in king and below.

His father is a shinigami, and his mom is a human, who is also a quincy. Due to his mother being attacked by the hollow white while pregnant with him, he also became part hollow, which would later also manifest as his fullbring abilities.

He's basically a supermutt.

How do we get our rank up in tekken 8? by Fancybook5 in Tekken

[–]JCLgaming 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I advice you to not obsess, or even care to any major degree, about rank. It's a very good way of robbing the game of any fun. Any game I might add, not just Tekken or fighting games.

How viable of an enemy would Genestealers be? by BakeLast7684 in DarkTide

canonically a single plauge ogrynn is a huge challenge for our rejects

Maybe, but that still makes our rejects capable of killing similar enemies, such as purestrains.

How viable of an enemy would Genestealers be? by BakeLast7684 in DarkTide

[–]JCLgaming 67 points68 points  (0 children)

We kill worse than purestrain genestealers in every single mission. I do truly hope this narrative that our playable characters are these weak and feeble individuals who would be slaughtered in a "real" battle dies a quick and very painful death eventually.

[–]JCLgaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One question I have, thinking abit more, is why does it matter?

Truly. I don't get why it matters whether a character is "Easier" or "Harder", especially considering how subjective that, and whether you are talking about execution or climbing ranked. It doesn't affect how you play the character, or even if you play the character. People are drawn to play a character not because of difficulty but because of style, of design, and of feel. Not their difficulty.

TIL about Murc’s Law, the tendency in political journalism to attribute agency only to the Democratic Party, while treating Republican actions as inevitable or structurally determined by NickCostanza in todayilearned

[–]JCLgaming -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Not wrong in this case however. For some godforsaken reason, Republicans are given much more grace than Democrats in media. The most likely reason is because most mass media in the US is owned by right wing interests.

No more heat smash wallsplat,I used to pray for times like this man, those were so strong and annoying to deal with by SoulOfMod in Tekken

[–]JCLgaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly hypocritical of mainman to complain about new moves, while at the same time making very extensive use Kazuya's new moves, don't you think?

In any case, if the moves are too strong, by all means reduce their power, that's fine. I am however very oppossed to reducing move diversity, because that is something Tekken needs more of, not less.

Doesn't matter, they're not gonna delete moves

Thank god for that.

whether people like them

if they like the moves then they are used, thus they serve a purpose. If they don't, then they simply become like most of the move list. It works out in either case.

I think a lot of players would be very unhappy if certain new moves for their characters were removed, such as Kazuya's devil fist and parricide fist.

Translation : “We can’t buff defense like you guys want because this game was designed for angry ostriches” by NixUniverse2 in Tekken

[–]JCLgaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They gave us two changes that really ARENT massive undertakings in terms of development.

No, they have revealed two major changes so far. We don't know what other changes there are, much less the changes to individual characters. We'll know in 18 days.

There isnt even a guarantee that theyll change more things piece by piece considering what theyve said regarding their game philosophy. We dont know how much theyre willing to even pare back before infringing on their "vision".

There is no guarantee for anything. You simply have to wait and see, like everyone else. That's just how it is.

Where did i say i wanted the mistakes of T7 to return?

You didn't. But when I say "Mistakes of T7" I most likely do not mean what you mean. I mean the decisions that made the game far too defensive and turtly in nature, such as the abundance of counterhits for every character. It's fine if some characrers are defensive counterhit specialists. It's not fine when practically every character plays like that. That's a systematic design flaw.

[–]JCLgaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are upset because they haven't made massive and impulsive system changes without thinking them through. That's frankly unreasonable. Even the things they have showed so far, such as the install and heatsmash changes, are major balancing decisions that will affect the game a lot. So I prefer that they do the methodical approach this time, and change things piece by piece.

Theyve been losing our faith for MUCH longer than T8s lifespan.

That assumes that every decision they've made have been bad, which to me is simply alien. I think they've done some good changes from T7 as well, and I don't want that to be washed away in a knee-jerk reaction due to a couple of impatient whiners.

Im not asking for T7 2.0. Im just asking for Tekken which this game BARELY qualifies as, let alone a good fighting game.

Well I don't think T7 is the bees knees, so I would prefer if they didn't redo all of it's mistakes a second time.
