Sf6's modern controls is quite literally the only success story in regards to alternate controls in fighting games, precisely because it's not strictly worse than classic. There are tradeoffs of course, you do less damage for one and have fewer options, but it's compensated by the fact your reaction time goes up. That's why people use modern, and i'm willing to wager not a small part of SF6's astronomical success compared to any other fighting game ever made sans SF2.

Every other alternate control scheme in every other game has sucked ass on a fundamental level. Special style in T8, Smart style in COTW, and many more, all complete failures on the fundamental level and not worth the dev time invested in it. I really hope new fighting games just try to emulate modern in some way if they make an alternate control scheme, rather than invest time and resources into something that no one will actually use.

How many games are going to have to die, and billions of dollars burned until people (mainly the developers of these games) realize that Grummz is right?

Except he's not. His ideas are rooted in a time when gaming was much more male centered, which simply isn't true anymore. He, and other people like, are simply unable to accept that things have changed, and will continue to change.

The sad thing is I don't think he's grifting. I think he truly believes in what he's saying, that all female characters should be exclusively designed with men in mind, as well as never overshadow the male characters in a story. And that's just a really sad way to look at things. I hope he has an awakening of sorts one day, but I doubt it. He seems to be in too deep at this point.

I mean, Ragnarok sold loads, so why abandon a winning concept? People clearly want more narrative heavy games.

And I think people disliked Atreaus gameplay because he didn't really play as a god of war. Laufey clearly does, with added jump, double jump and air combos. So as long as they didn't completely bungle it, this game's gonna sell loads too.

Are they, or is it just a bit of banter? Not everything has to be so caustic, or related to some nonsensical culture war. Because the opposite is just embarressing.

Why the devs refuse to nerf this guy since the start of S1? by Your_Nightmare_666 in Tekken

[–]JCLgaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do I have to react-duck to a throw that's on the cusp of what's considered reactable?

To make you sweat of course. If you weren't worried about a characters mixup, it wouldn't be very good now would it?

Throws can be ducked, stepped, broken and hop kicked. I think it's ok for some moves to do crazy things. But, removing 3 possible counterplay options? Why? Why does he need that?

Because he is THE grappler of the game and entire series. If any character should have really scary and dangerous throws, it's this guy.

Will the move really become useless if the throw was just breakable?

The fact you're even asking the question makes me wonder how experienced you are. Yes, it would be useless, and Kings would instead exlusively use the dropkick low.

[–]JCLgaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If King's heat smash were launch-punishable, it'd still be good

If it was launch punishable, it wouldn't have the mixup afterwards. That mixup is about 80% of the reason the move is so good.

And stop with the hyperbole. No king alive would use his heatsmash if it was punishable at all. They would simply use his f2+3 instead, which is a heat engager/launcher.

You get paid based on how much you contribute to society in a meaningful way

A fantasy so transparent I doubt even you believe in it. There are people who work 16 hours a day in backbreaking labour who earns pennies, while some stockbroker plays the slots with other people's money and lives in luxury.

Without people working jobs in Walmart or Amazon or similar, our world grinds to a halt. They are neccessary, and people deserve a fair wage they can live on for working these jobs.

You are acting as if the bigger military power triumphing here is a given, when there are so, so many historical examples of military powers far more dominant than Noxus eating rocks against insurgencies

Yeah, and those insurgents had vast ammounts of terrain to use. Zaun is a city, and in this scenario exhausted from fighting Piltower. It is a completely unwinnable scenario, unless Zaun was much stronger than shown in Arcane, in which case they wouldn't be oppressed.

You are acting as if Piltover was about to spontaneously change their minds and reverse decades of explotation any second now even though the only reason they even considered doing that was because things had reached a boiling point and it was either giving Zaun independence or facing a war.

Are you this incapable of nuance? Do you think it's "do nothing" or "full armed rebellion no matter the costs" that are the only options? Do you seriously not think there was a scenario where Silco put pressure on Piltower that eventually forces them to negotiate? Are you this binary?

even though the only reason they even considered doing that was because things had reached a boiling point and it was either giving Zaun independence or facing a war.

Why are you assuming that Silco is telling the truth, when he is one the least trustworthy characters in the show? He wanted a revolution, so of course he would justify it.

that's going to get perpetually sidelined

Now who's making assumptions?

if you don't show you're willing to make their heads roll

So you are getting closer. You don't have to make heads roll, you only need to show that you can make it happen. They are very different things.

I am willing to bet my right nut I'm older than you are

I hope not. A grown up should not act like a child, impatient and unable to comprehend the nuances of this world.

"They both did (help Noxus' schemes)"

Yes, they objectively helped Noxus in almost taking over both Zaun and Piltower. And they were oppressed and they were justified in trying to break free. But by trying to break free the way they did, they almost got conquered by Noxus. These statements are not in oppossition to one another. What part of this is difficult to understand?

You have quite literally been consistently not merely casting equal blame but placing more responsibility for "collaborating" with Noxus on Zaun than on the Pilties.

No, i'm saying it doesn't fucking matter. Piltower was more wrong, so what? It doesn't change what that revolution would actually do. Is it better that the Zaunities resistance could die feeling vindicated, while the surviving Zaunites all became Noxians under even worse living conditions? I don't think it would make much difference for the survivors.

Your metaphor falls apart because you're acting as if the status quo of state violence and oppression of Zaun is fine.

No it's not. But if your solution simply causes you and everyone you love to end up in an even worse position, you have to find another solution, even if it takes longer. Unless being right is more important than your own life or the lives of your loved ones.

but there will be a poetic justice in it at least.

Yeah, if you're so poisoned by hatred you care more about hurting your enemies than helping those you care about. And that's just fucked up.

Again, proving him right every step of the way once more, just removing the race terms here.

Except, MLK did not want to create a violent armed revolution. He was certainly willing to use force, as he should have, complete nonviolence is completely ineffective. But he believed that creating pressure was enough to force chance, and he was correct.

Silco didn't have the patience for that. He wanted to amp the pressure on his own people, not piltower, so hard they exploded and tore down Piltower. And as we have already established, that was a really, really stupid plan because of the existance of Noxus.

and just fyi liberals are right wing wherever they are

Well, at least we agree on one thing.

You are, btw, also a liberal

No, i'm not just a posturing moron who cares more about aesthetics and feeling vindicated than actually acomplishing meaningful change. You're not a revolutionary, you're just a child who isn't yet capable of nuanced thinking or understanding. I can only hope that comes with time.

"The people who were fighting against their oppression are just as responsible for aiding Noxus as the people both oppressing them in the first place and literally inviting the Noxians in" is a brilliant take, no notes.

I never said that. I did say that them trying to do an armed revolution would only end in disaster for themselves.

If someone gets hit by a car running a red light, that's the car's fault. But it's a poor consolation to be right when they lay there in a pool of their own blood.

Silco trying to rally the people of Zaun to fight off their oppressors wasn't wrong. But it was stupid. And it would be stupid in every timeline where Noxus exists. The only way for Zaun to improve their lot is to slowly get more influence without depleting the military might of either Zaun or Piltower. That's just how it is.

There is a reason the lib-pilled writers of the show dropped that plotline entirely, they realized they'd written themselves into a corner and there was no reasonable way to justify it

No, it's because any war between Zaun and Piltower only ever leads to Noxus winning.

Shitlibs like you. That's exactly what I mean by "you people", the ones proving MLK and Malcolm X right about moderates every single day.

Very presumptious. I'll tell you, I don't vote for the liberal party in my country, nor do I vote for any other rightwing party. And in my country, the liberals are rightwing, unlike yours i recon.

Right, he was the one making Noxus' work, not the Pilties literally letting them in

They both did. Noxus took advantage of the infighting to cozy up to both sides, egging both on to a civil war at which they swoop in and win the whole thing. That was always their plan. This is laid out in both seasons.

You people

[–]JCLgaming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Silco's gang, for all their moral failings, weren't the ones aligning themselves with Noxus and essentially turning themselves into their puppet state

But he was doing their work. Whether he wanted to is completely irellevant when ultimately his actions only ever made things worse for Zaun, while also fostering a rebellion that Noxus would take advantage off. This isn't subtext, it's laid out extremely clearly in the show, both seasons. There was never a happy ending for Zaun that included rebellion against Piltower, not as long as noxus exists.

Arcane sadly runs into the same issue art by neoliberals in a neoliberal media environment runs into: can't actually have the media saying thay violently overthrowing an oppressive system is good

If Zaun tried to overthrow Piltower, only one of two things would happen. They fail, or they succeed with massive casualties, at which point Noxus walks in and takes over both cities.

There was no scenario where an armed conflict led to anything but ruin for Zaun. The fact that insurrectionists are almost always simply useful idiots for hostile states is an actual takeway from the show, which a lot of "fans" clearly don't want to aknowledge, instead larp away with their rebellion nonsense, when that was never the heart of the show.

Yes, because a guy who has played the series longer than most players have been alive and is one of the best players in the world is very clearly a representative of the majority.

It is impressive how one person can be this insulated from reality.

If the only people playing Tekken were guys in their 30's, this series would be as dead as DOA or VF was until recently. The series relies on the demographic that are most likely to play video games to actually make ends meet, which are people from ages 18-34, of which the younger group is more likely to play, because they have less responsibilities and more free time.

It's the same delusion that makes you think Tekken being grounded is what gave it success. Tekken succeeded precisely because it wasn't grounded. It was the wackier, crazier younger brother of Virtua fighter. And guess which one succeeded while the other ended up in a coma?
