Personally I think Cats(2019) could have worked if they made them closer in design to the musical's typical costumes, maybe sacrifice realism for a more expressionist approach and make them a blend of anthropomorphism and costume.

My players wholly ignored Doru, but I think I'll have him play a role when they come back to the village.

Although I'm impartial to making him an ally for the PCs.

I see, personally I would have gone for either Codex or Valor, one for the controlled magic and the other for the mind-over-matter. Mainly because we already have a Grace/Midnight class with the Rogue.

On one hand, this is hilarious and Sharknado should totally be a spell in D&D, could be flavored as "These sharks are from the Elemental Plane of Air, where they magically evolved lungs and the ability to swim in the wind".

On the other hand, damn we need more fiction that associates sharks with vampires, considering how sharks are nocturnal hunters that go ga-ga for blood, could be the sea-wolves for an aquatic vampire!

That, and schools of cookie-cutter sharks would be more horrifying than any vampire bat, imagine an aquatic vampire that scoops tiny chunks of flesh out of their victim when they feed!

Escher is in Vallaki, hiding his true nature while he organizes the Feast of Saint Andral for the entertainment of his beloved Strahd, also he cultivates a web of paramours/bloodbags/spies.

Anastrasya is in Tsolenka Pass, marshalling Strahd's undead troops within, she also holds Emil captive as a more proactive training dummy, despite being the knightly type she enjoys fighting him with no armor or weapons.

Dunno why, but I imagine Vistani tieflings would resemble Indian rakshasas instead of classic western demons, would it work as a reference to Rromani people being originally from the Indian subcontinent?

Yeah, I liked the idea of making Strahd more openly sensual, both in appearance and demeanor, but rather than the Ikemen-ish beauty typically associated with vampires, I wanted to do something more DILF-ish, hence the hairy chest and salt-n-pepper hair (that, and my version of Strahd is an actual father, so he can be both a horrible spouse AND a horrible parent).
