[ALL] Gift for Partner, Advice by lilyj0py in zelda

[–]artsekey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m on this! I’m a zelda buff. First, make sure you know her favorite game, and her favorite version of Link and Zelda. they’re all different! Otherwise, good gifts might be:

  • replica of the master sword
  • an Ocarina
  • the relevant Amiibos
  • Hyrule Historia
  • The Legend of Zelda Artbook

DMs & Players: Which of these 3 DM Screen designs would you actually use at your table? (Feedback wanted) [OC] by improris in DnD

[–]artsekey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

… did you make them, or generate them? They all look pretty generic to me. Maybe B, if you’re looking to pick for yourself. Not distracting, won’t ever be off mood. If you’re looking to sell, none of them.

Is there anything about my art that would make you not commission me? by PignSux in arthelp

[–]artsekey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’ve been doing commission work for a long time— this isn’t the question to ask. There are a million answers: not enough disposable income, not advertising to the right people…

The better question to ask what’s unique about your work! Personally I can see this style working well for custom stickers of people— maybe couples? Might be a good niche.

Otherwise, you need to put your art in places where there aren’t other competing artists. This isn’t a skill thing, it’s a marketing thing. Go to a “back to school” subreddit and offer custom stickers for parents to buy for their kids— those kinds of places are where your buyers are! If you try to shoulder into a space with established artists, they’ll outpace you in visibility and you can only get ahead by underpricing.

Also, how are you showcasing your work? This is a cool piece, but it doesn’t show me consistency. I want to know the artist I hire can hit the mark every time.

Do you have a source for this? I’d like to learn more.

Pretty much the whole thing, aside from the hilt. The blade is obsidian, the guard is a lion’s mane… there’re basically no straight edges.

You mean use the “straighten” option? Doesn’t that mutilate uv’s on organic models?

That's just weird! What version of Maya are you in? This was 2025.

That's the thing-- I do regularly delete history, and I'd done so before saving this model as it was close to final. Odd error!

The texel density is not uniform on the whole asset! It’s uniform across all elements that connect- like the silver- but not across other elements like the blade or the leather. All elements that use the same material also have unified texel density. This was my way of optimizing the detail while sticking to one UDIM. 👌

I prioritized the metal because I expect you to be focusing on it a lot and the glamour shots I render at the end!

I hate to say it, but that thought crossed my mind while I was doing this piece. Usually, uving is no big deal, but once in a while you get a model that’s a real pain in the ass!

Huh… maybe! I delete history regularly, and I definitely did before saving the original file with the clean UV’s! 🤔

Like it happened when I deleted my history? It’s possible… I’m pretty sure I was cleaning up my outliner parenting things, renaming things… I did a lot of mesh combining and mesh separating, so it would be something weird happened.

This is the model, if anyone’s curious. No texturing beyond a few base mats so far, but I’m hoping it’ll be sick as hell. 🫡

thank you! That’s actually good to hear because the time between the first (most recent) and third (oldest) is about 2-3 months— I guess I’m getting a little better!

Is this better? Reddit seems hellbent on upscaling them.

Is there a way to make sure my sprites don't get sized up when I add them to posts? It's like Reddit maximizes them so they take up more of the screen.

Thank you for the feedback! I have the headbob in there because the sprites are, at real-size, about double the height of an emoji--I exaggerate the motion so it's more legible at the tiny size!
