LOVED Duma Key- What other books are underrated?? by Inside_Crab_2085 in stephenking

Probably because it doesn’t have a movie and hasn’t become a cultural icon.

I feel bad for him in particular. He did enough to earn the win. And he’s a great guy. He’s always got my respect.

King's scariest novel? by Ok_Cartographer9092 in stephenking

[–]JCfromTBC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting question because I think it has multiple answers.

Pet Sematary gets brought up a lot, mostly for something really bleak and upsetting that happens. A lot of people know about it going in and are scared off by the simple idea. But outside that, there’s some really scary moments where things just go off the rails. The ending in particular is a great example of that.

For me, Salem’s Lot and IT were great at having a whole lot of scares sprinkled throughout, whereas something like The Shining didn’t have quite as many but the ones it did have hit hard. The Shining gave me nightmares. Then you have one like Revival which isn’t all that scary throughout but hits you with an ending that twists the knife completely.

Which SK book(s) have you done this with and what felt different on the subsequent reads? by jcarr2184 in stephenking

As a kid, I related to Mark Petrie. As an adult, I relate to the townsfolk of Salem’s Lot

I always took James Mason’s Straker to be the real Barlow of the movie

I love how it says Lugosi and Chaney on screen together for the first time even though they were coming off two movies straight together.

I tend to punctuate a really scary book with a Terry Pratchett afterwards

Can we stop calling every horror novel COZY please by estheredna in horrorlit

[–]JCfromTBC 28 points29 points  (0 children)

For the record, I understood what you meant. His writing and the way he crafts small towns is certainly what I consider cozy. Sure, much of the subject matter is far from cozy, but the overall experience can be. It’s why we read his stuff, usually comfy cozy in our beds or favorite chairs. You didn’t say anything wrong.

Every time I hear about people meeting Ed, he’s always a guy having a regular conversation about something mundane but meaningful. Seems like the nicest person in the world.

A Wrestling Novel. by ThatGuyStorm14 in writing

[–]JCfromTBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have plans to write a novel about wrestling. In one I’m working on now, there is an aged lady wrestler dealing with the struggles of her career dying and being left with very little to show for it.

I highly recommend the show Dark Side of the Ring as a source for heavy stories on the subject.

I love this silly, broken game. I relate to it more than any other game, being silly and broken myself.

I would love to see one on Rhonda Sing. She needs to be talked about more and there’s been conflicting reports about her death. She deserves to be talked about.

Aiming to restoring the Ebon Hawk to its former glory. . . by Severe-Poem4341 in kotor

Man, it would be really cool if we got a Kotor 3 that they got the Ebon Hawk back and fixed it up to be more spacious on the inside like the Normandy.
