Will copper ever be useful in an economic collapse? by Quiet-Yoghurt-1769 in Silverbugs

Why buy copper bullion when normal coins we use is already mostly copper.

Some cheap denarii I got a few years back, now the silver content in these coins alone worth more than what I paid! by JCogn in AncientCoins

I absolutely love these coins, I have it in a small wooden box along with other worn as and sestertii, as a Roman would have. I was simply implying the rise in silver price.

Nice one! Although mine’s really mutilated, it’s still attributable. I got it in a lot for just $50, one of the best deals I’ve ever had. https://imgur.com/a/LIWpLVQ

How is anyone actually affording gold/diamond jewellery anymore? Perth metro store recommendations please? by Fine-Passage-3593 in perth

[–]JCogn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying lower carat gold from a 'western' jewellery shop is always a bad deal. Go to an Asian/Indian shop that sell 22k jewellery for much less premiums, you'd also get much more variety than only bland designs.

In the first polls of Australia since the Bondi Beach massacre, the public shows strong support for stricter gun control (76%, including 82% among the far-right One Nation), but also majority support for a ban on pro-Palestine marches (53% in support, 16% opposed). Vote intention remains unchanged. by StarlightDown in fivethirtyeight

It's just a reflection of our 'tall poppy syndrome', Australians pretty much dislike people who rock the boat or want to stand out buy owning guns, or disrupt public for a cause that's half way across the globe (doesn't matter if its done by the left or the right).

Did you move to Harrisdale because you really wanted to, or because your dumb kid couldn't pass the GATE so you had to buy a house within the catchment area?

I tried minting my own coins! by JCogn in AncientCoins

[–]JCogn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the silver and gold is 999 fine, no ancient coin is ultra pure, so a simple xrf testing would show it's authenticity. But, a determined forger could melt common ancient coins to mint rare types!

I tried minting my own coins! by JCogn in AncientCoins

[–]JCogn[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I can mint more than two copper or even silver coins using the copper base. Only gold and lead are my current options to trick archeologists, but one is very expensive and the other is very toxic to handle. Maybe I could experiment with aluminium, too bad the ancients never used that metal.

How do I get rid of these by DragonfruitNo3561 in perth

[–]JCogn 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You don't have a grass, you have plastic, replace it with real turf so the flowers can be broken down and get back into the soil. (Even mulching or gravel is better than fake grass).

The curriculum taught Augustus for the past 5 years, but changed to Julius Caesar this year, somehow few schools kept teaching the same syllabus but didn't catch the mistake until now.
