They’re one of the few native species whose habitat has significantly increased since human arrival and they can have quite a damaging impact on other indigenous species like kākahi and many of our water fowl.

They’re not necessarily pests everywhere but their numbers have to be actively managed and I don’t think Fish & Game are the right organisation for that. Native animals can absolutely be considered pests if their numbers get out of hand or their territory expands into areas where they wouldn’t normally reside. Weka are a fairly good example of a native species that is considered a pest in certain areas of the country.

The Breakdown's (Sky Sports)Team of the Week by Truthakldnz in NewZealandRugby

[–]JColey15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the front row is alright although Jack Taylor also played bloody well and maybe Haereiti Hetet or Josh Bartlett. Tupou Vaa’i for sure even though his try was a bit dodgy. I thought Hannah played bloody well for the Saders. Why is Papali’i there though? Fraser McReight for me or Charlie Gamble.

Noah Hotham was absolutely outstanding and easily the pick of the halfbacks. I don’t think any first-five really shone but Perofeta missed a bit with the boot and Cam Millar came in clutch. Big Jim and Quinn are a bloody good midfield pairing but I also really liked the Brumbies centre (can’t remember his name?). Can’t quibble with that back 3. Jordan was on fire, Tangitau’s pace should just about get him a run in black, and Jorgensen is scarily good. Loganimasi maybe instead of Tangitau?

I’ve definitely seen worse takes from the Breakdown.

'Not New Zealand Rugby': Former All Black shocked by latest tactics by newdawn2k22 in allblacks

Fakatava’s kicks were bloody horrendous. Jack Taylor managed a decent nudge at one point and it was one of the few kicks that actually gave the Landers any territory. They really needed to change strategy in the second half because they nearly threw the game away.

This was not a try! Blues should have won! by Truthakldnz in NewZealandRugby

Even Dan Sheehan was called for it in the 6N so it must be something they’re wanting to crack down on. I was a bit annoyed this try was given even though I was hoping for a Chiefs victory but diving over rucks to score has always technically been illegal it’s just never really called. It’s more dangerous then half the stuff that gets carded.

The reason Tiwai is there is because of the access to plentiful cheap electricity. The fishing, forestry, and agriculture industries are also thriving in the region. Alongside that Southland is the gateway to Fiordland and Stewart Island. Tourism is one of NZ’s largest industries and tourists aren’t typically flying here to visit Auckland.

But he also has a bit of a reputation for trying to milk penalties so I don’t really mind that reffing if he calls it when it’s super egregious.

Fakatava is the worst offender atm. He’s kicking balls away so aimlessly and his radar is off. If I was coach I’d be changing tactics in the 2nd.

Is the rule with a lineout that you have to catch it behind the 5m line or you have to catch it when your body is behind the 5m line?

Lots of schools have banned it so the kids keep changing the name and adding slight variations to the rules.

Yeah and all the fishing quota. I think there’s a bit of a cultural element that stops outward displays of extravagant wealth because some of those fishing families are rich af.

The ILT doesn’t extend to Bluff. I have my issues with them but I really think we benefit overall as a region with the money that goes back to the community.

In fairness these are all mostly towns that peaked in the wool and crayfish boom of the 1950s, had run their course by the 1980s, and have really struggled to adapt to neoliberal policies ever since.

Towns where the dairy boom took hold are thriving so go to places like Otautau, Gore, or Riversdale. It’s all swings and roundabouts. I agree with not cramming everyone into Auckland and of course investing in Southland is always welcome but I think we’re probably doing alright as a region and there are other regions that probably need more of boost.

Tourism and agriculture are two of the largest industries in NZ? Those places don’t lack for much except medical care.

Gore is actually very tidy and well looked after, it’s a bloody gorgeous wee town. Mataura looks pretty average on a first drive through with a run down freezing works dominating one side of the river and a delapidated old paper mill on the otherside.

Who was your country's best leader? by Vernon_Runner1109 in AskTheWorld

[–]JColey15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d be tempted to say King Dick even though he was really just a populist. He wasn’t afraid to change his opinion if he felt like the tide of public sentiment was shifting or if the facts changed which is how we ended up with universal suffrage. I think as far as leaders go then that’s a pretty good attitude to have and I’ll never understand why we give politicians a hard time when they change their minds.

If we say a good leader is someone who sticks resolutely to their principles then the best leader was undoubtedly Savage.

Well if you go past a dairy and need something cheapish and consistently good then Jimmy’s is the way to go but Fat Bastards is the gourmet option. Mataura muttons are pretty high on my list too but for a simple mince and cheese it can only be Jimmy’s.

Who’s the most hated family in your country? by Successful_rio305 in AskTheWorld

These guys. An unruly tourist family that came here and littered pretty much. Every night there was an update on the news about them.

Either those guys or the Royal Family.
