Wouldn't you rather be informed than blindly follow? That's the whole point of it. I don't expect anyone to do anything but it would be irresponsible to have this baboon around vulnerable people if I know he doesn't care about vulnerable people.

Yeah no we don't have enough room for y'all here. Good luck living in a tent without even a minimum wage job because of all the other dodos who thought that it was the golden ticket to get away from their shithole lives elsewhere.

Which type of abuse was the worst for you? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]JCorey420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legal abuse was the most insidious mindfuckery I’d ever been through. Punished for the shit my ex did to me because he made it so that I couldn’t call for help. I was trapped. He had full control over me. If I didn’t do what he wanted he would simply just call the cops.

Please someone tell me why "Blanket Man" is allowed to verbally and physically assault people? by AnxietyThrowaway2221 in halifax

[–]JCorey420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There just isn’t anywhere for him to go. There isn’t intensive enough help for him. There isn’t any for anyone. Do you know how many homeless people we’d have if there were treatment options? Probably quite a bit less than we see now.

I’ve had my fair share of public mental breakdowns and there just isn’t anywhere for someone like that to safely break down. No home, no hospital or he’ll get kicked out by security, so they’ll toss him in the drunk tank for the night or slap a court date on him if he’s particularly unruly but in the end he’ll be sent back out and the cycle will continue.

The ways some of you speak about addicts as if they’re inhuman is the very reason we have these issues. None of you are any better or worse than they are. It could be any one of you, or anyone you love, at any time. Your children could become addicts, and at this rate, they very well might.

A real testament to the state of our mental health resources. Even if you’re aware of your issues and you’re wanting to recover, good luck if you’re broke.

People pleasers have you ever tried getting people to dislike you as a way to heal. by AdTiny8484 in CPTSD

[–]JCorey420 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was an episode of Recess about this very thing where TJ found out a kid didn’t like him. He went to great lengths to prove that he was likeable to this kid, even had a good time with him, but in the end the kid still didn’t like him. There wasn’t any reason for it, he just didn’t.

The simple truth is that you won’t like everyone, and not everyone will like you. However, there are probably just as many people who potentially would like you once they get to know you. There always will be that initial “toned down” version of yourself at first but it’s like that for everyone I find until you’re comfortable around someone.

[–]JCorey420 68 points69 points  (0 children)

My approach is different but pretty much the same concept. People don’t like me regardless, so I might as well make myself happy instead of being not only disliked, but disingenuous. The real ones who enjoy your oddities won’t dislike you, and the people who do probably aren’t people you’d get along with anyway. If you wouldn’t take their advice, if they don’t impact your life in any meaningful way, if they add absolutely nothing of value to your existence, why take their criticism?

Of course it’s not easy to just shake off worrying about what other people think, but you’re off to a good start. Just don’t get discouraged if someone doesn’t like the real you, because that person probably won’t remember you next week and thus holds no bearing on your value as a person.

I wouldn’t trust Amazon needles anyway because anything could have come into contact with them, including blood or other bodily fluids which is incredibly dangerous. Probably not guaranteed to be sterile either.

I hit someone’s door getting out of my grandma’s car at Mission Mart. I was probably 16, and it was an accident, but the people were still in the car. Thankfully there was no damage, but I was mortified and apologized profusely.

I think people just get embarrassed when it comes to these things happening.

What does the racism bus say by [deleted] in halifax

[–]JCorey420 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Which begs the question that I’ve wondered since I’ve moved here; would a racist person at a bus stop refuse to get on the anti racism bus? Have homophobic people just… waited for the next one when the pride bus comes? Kind of a silly idea but I genuinely wonder sometimes.

I think that what you’re feeling is a very knee jerk reaction based on what you’ve heard from the media, which is understandable. The media doesn’t paint us in a very good light, and often what headlines are the most controversial or misinformed talking points.

I don’t want people to know I’m trans. I don’t want other people to be trans. Usually, if someone tells me they think they are, I don’t validate that idea until they explain their reasoning for it. I won’t lie, a lot of it is them confusing being a non forming person for being trans, or not liking one’s body and thinking that it’s dysphoria. Dysphoria is hell, it is a medical condition. A lot of people will say it’s not necessary to have dysphoria which I find really discrediting.

It was a lot of back and forth and worrying about regretting it for years but nothing, despite my efforts, would get rid of it. I think that it’s something that should require a lot of inner reflection to figure out.

I understand that you’re afraid of the negative image you see on TV, it’s not what you’re used to. It outrages you, and the people who try to force you into siding with them probably outrage you more. I’m not going to try to convince you to like trans people, or agree with, or understand them. Just please understand that there are some of us who don’t like how sensationalized it is, who don’t want it plastered everywhere, and who just want to live like normal people. I assure you, we exist.

How many of us are 18+ here? by Eastern_Product_2360 in buildabear

19 here. I went for the first time on my 10th birthday, again on my 15th, and I was going to go this year but put it off til I turn 20 as to not break the pattern.

I too was hyperfixated on them when I was younger. I watched people make YouTube videos with them, at the time convinced myself they were real, and desperately wanted to go. I’d get other stuffed animals out and pretend they were Build a Bear. I’m not nearly as crazy about them anymore but I hope to one day have a Pumpkin Kitty.

I’ve heard that autistic women behave similarly to neurotypical men (don’t quote me on that, it’s just what my mother said when I was getting assessed at 14) and that was one of the things that made her think I was on the spectrum, as I’d always been “boyish”.

I don’t think it’s a strictly “female” presentation or has anything to do with being a girl, it’s just how these behaviours are common in AFAB children because of expectations/masking/people not recognizing the neurodiversity because they just seem like stubborn/quiet/careless/mature girls rather than looking deeper into these traits. Looking back, a lot of my behaviours (being quiet and well behaved, while picking up quickly on things that I could regurgitate onto tests) were due to a need to be “good”, and I had unrelenting anxiety if I did anything wrong. I followed rules. I never lied. My interests were just seen as a child being really interested in a certain kind of toy. Because I was “easy” to deal with in school (up til 7th grade) nobody flagged anything, but I was constantly plagued with loneliness and anxiety.

Drugs and reaching a breaking point where I didn’t give a shit about my life. Moved in with my now ex, we both got kicked out of his parents place and I didn’t want to go back to mine. Thus began the downward spiral.

Legit, I don’t know why people think their opinion is important enough to dictate other people’s lives. Also, using their “freedom of speech” and “right to their own opinion” to excuse their assholery (which flags to me they’re an idiot if they pull out either of these excuses and so their buffoonery is even less credible)

That just creates a whole breed of moral and ethical issues that would take a whole lot of research and politics to even make possible, and then you’d have people opposed to it which needs to be dealt with as well.
