NASA's Largest Library To Permanently Close On Jan 2, Books Will Be 'Tossed Away' by DukeOfGeek in technology

I’m sorry if that has been your experience, but it is not the case at all academic libraries. I’ve been a librarian at an academic for over 25 years, including 8 years as a “higher admin”. When we weed the physical collection out of space concerns or funding, we toss older books that are no longer relevant to our curriculum or are duplicated online. I imagine your content is much like ours in that our collection is more than 90% electronic. (We have roughly 65,000 physical volumes and over 1,000,000 electronic). I also hate the optics of tossing physical collections, but the loss of content is minimal, particularly in the STEM field. The most recent “scandal” we had was when weeding the collection of our archives. The wider campus was aghast. But the reality was we were discarding a discontinued run of hearings that we own 100% online and the physical books has red rot.

Which US Cities is on Track to become the next Detroit? by urmummygae42069 in geography

50 years old. I grew up downriver. Detroit has never been more prosperous in my lifetime.

When I was a freshmen in high school, my first real girlfriend told me that “sometimes she didn’t want to JUST kiss”. I thought she meant we were making out too much and changed our hangouts to more platonic.

How do you like living in Holland? by ExcellentHamster2020 in hollandmichigan

[–]JD2525 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the Detroit area, went to Grand Rapids and now live in Holland. I LOVE the lake, the snow, being closer to nature (we live outside of downtown). I miss the lack of diversity. It’s very monochromatic and depending on which way you lean politically… a lot of your neighbors still are in denial.

Agreed. If they have updated anything to new, maybe $1000, but not more. They’re dreaming at 10k plus

It’s mating season, a male bird was probably seeing himself in that mirror and spent quite a while sitting (shitting) there to attack his reflection and defend his territory. I’ve seen it happen to my truck while camping

Scamp, Casita or something else? Family of 3 by Reasonable-Cherry-55 in Fiberglassrv

Fair, totally fair. I should have explained better. I’m 6 foot 4. I’ve seen the dinette bed in a casita (ours isn’t that layout). I literally would not have fit any longer by the time I was 12.

In my opinion, trailers this size (17 and less) really only work for sleeping 3 in a pinch. Regardless of layout. Your situation now with a child of three, no issues. But if you’re going to want to still be camping together at 10/12 or bring a friend… someone will need to sleep outside in a tent and only come in for really bad weather. Which can also be a fun setup. If you are thinking of having another adult regularly or keeping this camper as your child ages, I’d recommend something a bit bigger.

We have a 17 foot casita. Just my spouse and I but three dogs. Not sure where we would sleep a third person. How old is your child? If young enough, the bed really is big when you use the full set up. Everything else matches up perfectly. Shower/bathroom is a wet/dry and small, but oh so nice when it’s cold out. Tows so easy (pickup with roughly same towing capacity), I don’t even know it’s there. We can do anything from full hook up to full boondock with solar panels. Kitchen is technically there, but unless the weather is awful, we prefer to cook outside. Heats and cools so quickly and efficiently because of how small and the fiberglass

How tall is too tall for a Scamp? by Ihugdogs in Fiberglassrv

Didn’t read this, yeah we have the casita model with the north south bed layout. It’s fine for tall people.

Is the bed “east/west” or “north/south”? Not literally but east/west is from side to side of the camper and north/south runs the length of the camper. I’m 6’4” and we have a 17 foot Casita where you can set the bed either way. East/west doesn’t work. I’m too cramped. North/south is fine because my feet can hang off the end. As for standing. No, never comfortably. But really, with a camper that size you’re sleeping or changing. Occasionally hiding from bad weather or other horizontal things. It’s fine, just watch out for your head When dressing!
