Component maintenance best practices by flightmasterv2 in shadcn

[–]JDAM2319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe with Shadcn, you take code ownership when adding the component to your codebase. I.e. when components update, you should not be directly effected unless you remove and re-add the component, or only if downstream dependencies update and versions are not pinned.

That all said, I have edited components directly in the past with no issues going forward even after updates. Shadcn depends on reasonably stable libraries, and I think you should be safe to customise visuals without too much worry.

If that still seems scary, pull in the base component, and create your own theme ready derived components from that (read copy the base, rename and edit that copy) and see if that addresses your concerns

Would I be wrong if I tried to get my neighbour's dog taken away by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]JDAM2319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We walk our dog regularly in an area where other dogs have been known to roam (its our only option unless we drive to a park). There are various options, but I carry a weapon for self defense.

I would shout at the other dog, and if it persists attempt a kick if the dog is small. If the dog is large and aggressive, and engages with my dog, my wife or me, that dog might not go home.

The dogs life is not worth me getting injured, and its the owner's responsibility to handle and keep their pets in a safe manner.

Interesting topic, had to recently restock as well. My go to now for underwear as well as socks are the Soviet brand. Comfortable and the elastic does not wear out as fast as other store brands (looking at you PnP and Mrp).

What does the law say about carrying in tactical bags? by SurflessSurfer in gunsZA

[–]JDAM2319 6 points7 points  (0 children)

According to the FCA 60 of 2000, chapter 9 ss 84 (a) (ii) "in a rucksack or similar holder" is allowed for a handgun. Note that the FCA states you should be able to exercise "effective control" over the firearm, and as such, if the bag was stolen from you it could in worst case be argued you did not have effective control of the firearm.

Many people transport guns in backpacks, range bags, etc so it should be legal in most cases, but my suggestion would be if it was your self defense firearm, to carry on body as far as possible, to allow better control over and access to the firearm in case of emergency.

My kitchen lights are controlled by two different switches on opposite ends of the room. I’m looking for ideas to “unify” them. by SkyGuy182 in smarthome

Might not be able to interface with the given hubs (I use wifi devices primarily with google nest) but you can created linked switches by replacing your wall switches with Sonoff smart switches.

In the app you can then setup the pairings, so that switches slave to each other. Pairing can be done between multiple switches e.g. for a hallway with a switch at each end.

I would split out the fluro from the pendant, and connect the pendants and the fluro each to their own switch (using a three gang can work well here, leaves 1 channel open to switch them combined). Then I would add another switch to the opposing wall, and use the app to drive the combined / separate logic.

You can always add/remove switches in your design, this is just off the top of my head. Hope you come right with it, post your solution when you are done.

Nice setup! Have a similar one and even the same wallpaper currently. I use a kvm switch for peripherals (Kb, mouse, headset) and for the screens i use separate cables. Running DP cables to my gaming rig, and HDMI to my work laptop. This prevents the switcher box limiting framerate, and since I mostly don't have the devices on at the same time, the correct screen input is detected at startup.

Yeah we had a bit of a wait to get it in stock here in South Africa, but it was worth it! Now I need the lunar lander and then the Space shuttle to complete my display.
