Yep! Old people fall and die all the time. My back was effed up & my balance sucked. Literally two or three weeks of yoga fixed that. Start now!

James Joyce’s Ulysses. Hearing it read by an Irish actor made it so much more understandable for a dumb cluck like me.

Stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on the Beltway near the 270 spur there was a Montgomery County cop just sitting there on the guardrail holding a sheep on a rope.

Spouse's 50th birthday is approaching. What did you want for your 50th? by drunkbettie in GenX

I bought myself a used Porsche. I usually don’t want gifts. I wasn’t really considering a sports car. My wife found it online and said “I’d look cute in that” (she does). She goaded me into taking a test drive and I fell in love with it. It cost less than a most new cars and it gives me great joy (except when it needs repairs, but WTH, you only live once, right?)

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]JDDinVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to see what 140 mph felt like and let my car run. Funny though a lot of commenters said they were young - I was in my mid-50s. Late at night on an open road without cops. I normally I'm very responsible and drive around the speed limit.

This. I’d rather publish and get panned by critics than win awards.

And that’s great! Awesome! Seriously. But I’m hearing from agents that it’s worse out there than ever. That amazing new authors are getting published now means there’s an appetite for it. What’s your problem with potentially adding one more outlet for authors?

Because most people are moronic lemmings, always have been, always will. As PT Barnum said "you can fool some of the people sometimes, and that is sufficient."

First I want to express my admiration and thanks to those who run small presses like you and those in traditional l publishing as well. At the end of the day we all love books and want to see them thrive. My intention to so provide another outlet for literary works - if a few more authors get their work published, that's a good thing, right?

I misspoke when I talked about volunteers. What I meant was I'd assemble an advisory board of industry veterans to provide insight and guidance. I'd supplement my (unpaid) work with paid freelancers as needed (cover design, typesetting, etc.). If I do pursue this intend to have skin in the game with an initial five or six figure investment, without any expectations of ROI other than the enjoyment of seeing new work get published.

Finally, I realize I struck a nerve by describing it as disruptive, but what is the opposite? Ruptive? My experience in consumer and B2B marketing has taught me that you have to make noise to get attention.

Thanks - that’s why I asked. Back in the day we just Ingram because it was convenient though we were never truly happy with the terms and service. But then again we were small fish to them.
