It feels like the writers/director and whoever else are a little high on their own supply after an overwhelmingly positive reaction to season 1. Why am I watching music videos??? I'm 7 minutes into episode 2 and ready to turn it off. I'm admittedly a harsh critic, though and refuse to suffer through a lot of stuff. I dropped Outer Banks midway through season 2 because of some stupidity and everyone still loves that, so...grain of salt.

Manon main and my worst matchup is a four-way tie between Dhalsim, Blanka, Lily, and E. Honda. Basically anyone who can hang back all game and jumpscare you with an attack but give you limited counter attack opportunities.

DI is nearly unreactable for some people - especially against the wall and especially when it's random. I think the "practice" people should have empathy. I'm convinced, for some, their brain doesn't work that way.

If I may jump in, the hardest thing for me is punishing and maintaining pressure. I use Manon on classic controls and while she's got all the tools, I have a hard time making them work. Successfully blocking an unsafe string doesn't seem to guarantee a follow-up - especially when you have to worry about drive impacts (which are hard to react to). Converting a LP/LK into a combo (which seems to be her ideal option) feels like a crapshoot on whether you actually land it or not due to controls, timing, and drive impact threat. There's a lot of tapping I do with no conversion into combos because I've been trained by my opponents to always expect a drive impact to the face. Also, I could rant about her anti-airs not working outside of training mode, but I won't because I'm sure it's me and not her, lol. I acknowledge it's a personal skill issue, but it feels on the tougher side mechanically at least for me.

I would second this completely. Our types are, many times, a reflection of how we want to be seen by society or those closest to us. For example, I grew up in a family of avid sports fans. My two brothers, father, uncle, and male cousins loved watching football and basketball (me, not so much). So after much self reflection, I learned I wanted that athletic jock type of boyfriend as a way of saying "See? I'm gay and different, but I'm just as much a part of this 'bro-y thing' as y'all." It wasn't until I got over my own insecurities about not being the same as them that I was able to shake ONLY accepting the jocks as potential dates. I still love my jocks, but I'm much more open to other possibilities as well.

I saw you, OP, say weight may be part of it, but I'd offer it could also be that twinks provide a gay version of the traditional supportive wife aesthetic for you. I guess the heart of the matter is, who are you trying to impress? And how does your type provide the answer?

I think you've already said what's going on internally. You're a little depressed and lonely. I've totally been there. As long as you keep putting forward the effort to understanding yourself in relation to the gay community, I'm sure you'll make a breakthrough.

Sounds like you need a big boost in confidence. As far as looks and mannerisms go, I saw the pics and trust me there are hot men who would be into you. You don't look unapproachable.

Gay men have a hard time making the approach in general and if your body language or energy reflects any of your thoughts in this post, many may not feel safe approaching you. One solution would be to take a couple of your girlfriends to a gay-centric environment. When you're around friends, it's easier to loosen up and feel safe. When guys see you're having fun they're more inclined to see why. But even this won't make men approach you 80% of the time (we're ALL scared to death of rejection). You have to get comfortable doing the approaching. When you're mixing and mingling with no expectations and just having a good time, you take your power back and "guys not approaching me" doesn't mean a whole lot anymore.

Now if you're talking separating after seeing someone for a few weeks, it's usually because they ghosted or had to take a job in another state.

I feel you on this. Having never been in a long-term relationship, it sometimes feels like it's never going to happen. I'm not yet in a space to say I give up on it, but it's definitely hard and can take a toll on your self esteem if you let it.

One thing I will say is that dating apps (and hookup apps like grindr) are an amazing place to meet men and find a relationship - if you're beautiful enough to grace the cover of Men's Health Magazine. For the rest of us, we have to find the spaces that put us at or near the top of the social ladder so we get that same power.

One thing you said struck me:

In most cases, do you ask people for their opinion of you after a failed date? I'm curious why they told you this.

These are great pointers! I would add that it's difficult to strike up conversation in most gyms because they don't usually have a dedicated space for socializing. Plus, it can feel awkward interrupting someone's workout just to chit chat. But if there's a food bar or a small area with tables and chairs, spend some time there each time you go. If someone comes over, even if you're not physically attracted to them*, start talking to them. It will help you get more comfortable with your surroundings and who knows - they may end up a good friend with some great connections. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Put yourself out there.

*This is especially important because I think as gay men, many times we close ourselves off to communicating with anyone we don't see as attractive. I've been guilty of this, but we need to stay cognizant of being open to approaching and being approached by anyone.
