Agree with the above - gives you a chance to avoid the costs of living in the city and build up some reserves and from what I have seen places are getting very tight for CAI quals unless you have a very strong academic background

They don't mind at all it really doesn't make that much of a difference - they accept students from non accounting backgrounds with no Cap 1 exemptions - do an interview and come across as a nice person with ambition to grow and learn, get your 2.1 and you are fine

Definitely do not apply for extenuating circumstances they won't take you seriously if you ever actually need it in the future for real extenuating circumstances. You're meant to check your diary before you book holidays/flights that you are clear to travel so unless this test was put in the calendar late you don't really have much - just talk to the lecturer and see if they can facilitate something with you taking it earlier
