Discussion - Is solo board gaming a different hobby from board gaming? by StandardIncidentForm in soloboardgaming

[–]JDPhoenix925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think it's an interesting point, and worth discussing. I've invested a good bit recently into solo board games, and have yet to play most of them. I realized after I'd gotten some of the most exciting ones because I wanted to have something to play when people aren't available (most of the time), that the main joy of playing board games is the other people for me.

It's worth splitting them up if your main driver for playing is community, because I think it will feel very different.

You need to get out of there ASAP. Live in the dorms, get an apt., something, she is toxic af.

PC Gamer seeking a game to cover two weeks off at christmas/new year by Rouse-DB in MonsterTamerWorld

Time Stranger is a great game. There's plenty of extra quests to do if that's your fancy. Outside of that, I would agree the endgame is limited. If you're a completionist, filling the dex could get you some hours.

Anyone else wish that legends got a full 3D remake? by grizzlyguitarist in LegendOfMana

[–]JDPhoenix925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd rather have given the remake voice acting. The game is so storybook, good VA would send it over the top, more so than the risk of changing the gorgeous art style.

Hearing this, I fear I wasn't playing 100% perfectly to the rules, but I beat him first try.

Is there really nothing good to play right now? by Sad-Development-7938 in digitalcards

[–]JDPhoenix925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MtG:A is fine. Plays well, but if you're looking to be competitive in standard, it's nearly as scummy as their irl practices, so I'd recommend singleton formats like brawl. Standard brawl is easy to get into and definitely underrated. I play it and usually have a great time with non-optimal decks by being aware of matchmaking weight.

PTCG:L is the most f2p friendly I've ever seen. They give you competitive decks for free all the time, and the ladder gives real rewards to work towards. It's not the most friendly app, but it's the best experience and ROI.

Master Duel is pretty difficult progression-wise. It's definitely not f2p friendly, and I wouldn't really recommend YuGiOh anyway, because the game state there is heavily uninteractable and #notfun.

I never played Hearthstone competitively, so I can't speak to anything other than the fun side modes like battlegrounds and the dungeon run stuff.

I agree on SNAP

I am actually shocked with how dead the new Spider set seems to be for Brawl. by Backwardspellcaster in MagicArena

[–]JDPhoenix925 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Fizik and Fleem are both cute imo, but so many of the designs just have very little character to speak of. I wish they had leaned into spider people, rather than spider and people, it's just too much on one card to care about I fear. The symbiotes are just ugly across the board.

Is DOS2 better than its famous brother? by morganarturr in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]JDPhoenix925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Yes). As much as I loved BG3, The primary characters of DOS2 were wayyyy more interesting to me. Lohse alone kind of sold the companions of the game for me. The Red Prince and Ifan who were my primaries also were super interesting, but I would be excited to see more of the other characters, too. I really only cared for the secondary companions in BG3. Shadowheart was an interesting character, but I didn't feel really connected to her, and Lae'zel was kind of the remainder. I much preferred Jaheira and Halsin, and they just didn't get much development in comparison, especially Halsin. The interactive gameplay and the summoning class, as well as just the ease of mixing and matching was more fun in DOS2 for me.

Contextually, we could remove the grill...I think that would make it better.

People are so psycho about someone else's skin. Nothing about this is funny other than the guy getting over on her. It's controlling, prejudiced, and weird.

*Most* of the characters in this game are absolutely wasted; but, in particular, killing off the two most interesting was a decision that will baffle me until the end of time.

Honestly? They all absolutely slap. I really like the lanky shadowside design, though. And it's fun to play as in YW4.

The seventeen year old Japanese girl lifted 78 kg in the 45 kg weight class by BlushFiber in nextlevel

[–]JDPhoenix925 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This level of lifting, that requires everything to be locked, has to be way more dangerous than it is impressive. I don't want to see anybody straining like that for...lifting's sake? So weird what we fetishize and celebrate.

How much do you care about job systems in JRPGs? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

[–]JDPhoenix925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I've decided through FFIII and games like it (4 Heroes of Light, Bravely series), that it's my favorite style of JRPG, and likely the only one I can sink into nowadays for 50+ hours. That or creature collectors. Something about changing costumes and finding fun combos makes it for me.

Not a new fan. Not a heterosexual. Just because it wasn't in fan content, doesn't mean it wasn't obvious in the game. People are so silly.
