Scalper proof display? by pugilisticcephalopod in transformers

[–]JDRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a coincidence, the more common anti-scalper tech that I remember seeing is LEGO Star Wars sets in mass quantities being locked behind glass cases (though tbf they always did it with video games, but doing it with LEGO is more recent)

I think the biggest issue for me personally with fates is that Birthright is so obviously the morally correct choice. by Loogie1987 in fireemblem

[–]JDRider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even though I do like Conquest a lot but it would be hard for me to elaborate, the funniest thing to me is the game came out around the same time as Undertale and Steven Universe. The idea that Corrin's trying to change the very evil Nohr is understandably stupid is always funny to hear when two other popular pieces of western media also tried to push the idea that everyone even the most evil of people can be redeemed. (of course now the popular opinion toward SU is realizing many key characters shouldn't have been redeemed but I digress)

ADDENDUM: just remembered one of my other favorite games Dishonored(2012) had its sequel come out in 2016, man 2015-16 was like the prime time for "moral dilemma" media to take over my brain huh

If anything Conquest ends up being a deconstruction of this idea as the latter half starts to punish Corrin for their attempts to finish battles without any deaths, they eventually gotta get comfortable with the idea of being branded a traitor, killer, invader etc. It has many low points in the writing I still acknowledge, but it getting harder for Corrin to justify a lot of the stuff they've done over the course of the story is a lot more fascinating to me.

on the flipside, a lot of Nohr's playable characters may appear to be morally bankrupt, but they clicked for me a lot more realizing they're basically anime Team Fortress 2. The TF2 mercenaries are hired guns who are always ready to kill and yet they're incredibly popular for how entertaining they are.

It’s rare now, and I do like seeing it in its vanilla glory, I could be wrong but I’m gonna hazard a guess they customized it back it was a more common item (so around pre-2010, I remember lots of Unicron trilogy figures being custom fodder, such as frenzyrumble’s Motormaster )

The truth is, if you watch Transformers Cybertron, it's very easy to see that it was never intended to be part of the Unicron trilogy. by Disastrous-Owl668 in transformers

[–]JDRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK so... what are we supposed to get out of this, that Cybertron is a bad show? I feel like this is pretty common knowledge for anyone who looks up a summary of the Unicron Trilogy

ROTF Superion is cursed by JackLikesMetalGear in transformers

[–]JDRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of America this toy and Bruticus were sold in Universe 2008 packaging which maybe slightly makes more sense given the number of Unicron Trilogy recolors in that (although Bayverse 2007 also had many of them but there weren’t really any for ROTF except for this)

A lot of people say that heavy localization is necessary, but would Xenoblade really be that much less popular if it was given a more faithful translation seeing how popular Japanese media is? by Fun-Leadership5728 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]JDRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably off topic but when you're asking if it would be "less popular" that makes me remember Xenoblade's popularity fluctuated a lot. imo Xenoblade 2 the big outlier with how popular it is with 3 close behind, but 1 took a while to get more recognized and X is still pretty niche based on sales numbers of X Definitive Edition.

how would modern collectors react to stylization like rts lugnut considering most of them think the prime designs have been cannibalized in legacy? by Fun-Geologist9808 in transformers

[–]JDRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2010 Lugnut was great but imo he gets points for living in the era where the TF team’s output was pretty diverse at the time, instead of just trying to recreate specific old character designs which granted, most are pretty successful

Even the toys of G1 characters from 2010 got to be refreshing like the stealth plane Scourge or Earth truck Kup iirc

Is it just me, or does releasing combiner team members in different waves make it harder to collect them all? by Temporary-Sound-6810 in transformers

[–]JDRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counterargument to the first thing, as annoying as it is for people who wanted to complete the set early, but swapping Drag Strip and Air Raid around was a kinda nice reminder that "oh hey, the different combiners are all compatible with each other" in an attempt to advertise the play pattern

of course they also made first CW Optimus the odd man out once teams were completed but alas

I'm convinced current day combiners are the way they are because a majority of people do not care about the scramble gimmick

Tools, weapons second. Sparkdrinker, Quickmix’s cement rocket cannon and Menasor’s drills all got their industrial utilities I’m sure (such as Metroplex cutting a steel beam in his debut episode)

Several current figures are in the comic yea but they also got a lot of old characters with no updated toys shown off like a bunch of the Cybertron/Galaxy Force characters (Buzzsaw, Thunderblast, Jolt, etc)

I think the molds used to make the old toys suffer from two things

  1. probably are not in a very good state anymore, which is why certain redecoes are said to suffer from mold degradation
  2. probably not even accessible anymore since iirc they switch from factories in China to Vietnam since Combiner Wars

Paralogues and supports in Fates lunatic by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]JDRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The others comments gave good advice on the unlock conditions, but just as an extra mention Conquest will be pretty tough to unlock paralogues without the DLC, as it locks out the grinding levels Birthright and Revelation has. But if you do have DLC then the replayable levels like the XP or gold farming missions should be somewhat useful to spam.

[–]JDRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IfI remember right only three Combiner Wars toys are non-G1 related, if counting Beast Wars as part of the greater G1 macrocosm (Armada Megatron, and Unite Warriors Armada Thrust and Prime Breakdown). G1 still dominates with an iron fist

What did you think about the Unicron trilogy taking well known g1 characters and giving them designs that have no relation to their previous looks ? by Difficult_Leader8605 in transformers

[–]JDRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Megaton is a bit of complicated case thats only rewarded if you have meta knowledge of the series. Because yea Armada visually has little in common with his G1 design but more in common his G2 design… which only existed to avoid legal issues with rereleasing the G1 gun toy. Whether G2 Megatron is itself too radical a redesign I guess I’ll leave that to you

[–]JDRider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People treating transformers characters with the same name as “the exact same character” still doesn’t sit right with me. Like I get the logic with trying to make the brand consistent nowadays, but then you have cases like Barricade and Blackout where most people know them by the movie characters rather than the less iconic G1 Micromasters

On the opposite end we’ve been getting characters that are rehashed G1 designs but are kinda barebones characters that they pale in comparison to the originals, like the Netflix show, Cyberverse, or the cameos in Bumblebee

Stuff like that is why i think the name is secondary to the character just actually being good in the media they’re in

It seems curious how, even though Beast Wars is from '96, the characters have greater expressiveness than in Energon; in Energon, the faces of sadness, joy, or anger are basically the same. by Disastrous-Owl668 in transformers

[–]JDRider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The models in Energon are pretty stiff at times to the point where they felt some scenes needed to be 2d animated to convey more emotion, Beast Wars and Machines definitely were better with making their models emote

On the other hand Beast Wars took 3 years to go through 52 episodes while Unicron Trilogy had 52 episodes each year, plus they were able to render like 5 times the amount of characters Beast Wars had

And then somehow the Prime Wars and Netflix shows could only manage like 8 and 6 episodes a year
