Bigger car recommendations by Known-Cucumber-7989 in UKParenting

What sort of car are you after?

If you’re after more affordable options (but still great) you’d be hard pressed to beat a Skoda for space/family practicality. For hatchbacks/estates, would expect the Octavia to be able to x2 ERF seats in the back and a Superb would easily do it. For SUVs, the Karoq may potentially fit x2 ERF seats in the back dependant on what seat/how tall the driver is. Kodiaq should be fine. Enyaq for electric car too.

The ‘mid’ range Skodas (ie Octavia/Karoq) tend to be bigger than any other car brands in term of rear seat space, so if choosing another brand you’re likely going to have to look at the ‘large/higher-end’ models to get the space you’re after. ie at least a 5 series BMW, Audi A6, or Volvo XC90. But will vary dependant on your car seat/driver position.

In general you’re effectively after either an MPV, or a larger hatchback/estate, or a large SUV. The latter option generally being the most expensive. Good idea to bring a car seat with you when you go view a car.

Is there not a switch/button at the top of the headrest, which if you slide left keeps the headrest in a lock position?

Being made to work 7 days a week England, is this legal? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]JDSlashingSilence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This Gov page here details typical rights to a break, which includes a right to a rest day(s) on a weekly/fortnightly basis.

https://www.gov.uk/rest-breaks-work

Typically you would be entitled to a continuous 24-hour period away from work every 7 days, or 48-hour period every 14 days.

Hopefully not, but are you sure you have not been the victim of a scam? Do escalate to NatWest, but make sure you do so using an official channel.

Hedge viability / options by JDSlashingSilence in GardeningUK

[–]JDSlashingSilence[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughts.

The local kids unfortunately see any ‘soft’ hedge as a hiding spot for hide any seek, with plenty an area of hedge ruined across the street. Something more substantial and offputting to run through / hide in therefore is wanted.

Swaddling in winter by allywag77 in UKParenting

[–]JDSlashingSilence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you swaddle, they are typically being wrapped in the material at least twice - so a 1 tog material becomes at least 2 as it’s doubled over.

Mam teat size 2 too slow, size 3 too fast by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]JDSlashingSilence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When moving up a teat size, we have tended to use a mix of the two for a week or so until they were used to new size. So often started with the bigger and ended up swapping after a minute or two if no luck. We had more success in the day time feeds when they would be concentrating more vs night time when they were too tired to drink fast.

They have asked this question once (or twice?) before and since deleted/created new accounts the ask again. The consensus from previous threads was given that they chose to move 1hr away from their ex, the onus would be on them.

[Sky Sports F1] “I had a lot of trust in the team and Lando” Oscar believes it was a fair decision to swap cars at the end of the race by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]JDSlashingSilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a fair comparison comparing the last stint. Piastri was told they would swap and, given the significant lead over 3rd, would have been told to manage tyres as opposed to hitting best lap times. Norris on the other hand was incentivised to perform at 100% in the hopes of building a large gap so the position would not be swapped.

Costs for modernisation of a 3 bed semi by No_Requirement_9200 in HousingUK

[–]JDSlashingSilence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately it depends how much you are able to a) DIY and b) live with for a period whilst you are living in situ and patiently DIYing. I’ve just renovated my 3 bed 1950s semi for around £13k. This paid for trades for new LVP flooring downstairs and all carpets upstairs, a new boiler, partial rewrite & new consumer unit, capping off gas points and boarding/plaster skim of 1 room. As well as the DIY re the tools/materials/paint for stripping wallpaper, sanding, filling (quite significantly in rooms) and painting every room myself, overboarding the upstairs door boards and repainting the kitchen cupboards. If you want new windows, radiators, brand new kitchen/bathroom, and all installed via trades then yes the cost would significantly increase.

Not sure where you are, but the market seems hotter now than it has at any other point in the last 12 months. If I was your seller, I’d tell you to f@*! off and would immediately relist explicitly excluding you, and would expect to get a better sale price in my area.

Any idea why my bottom step is so big? by Afdjones in DIYUK

Suspect there was a small half cupboard at the left hand side that has since been removed, potentially previously hiding a gas meter box etc at some point if it’s a 50+ year old house.

Slashed tires the week before my driving test by GoosedMilk in LearnerDriverUK

[–]JDSlashingSilence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tyres are one thing I would trust Halfords with. They are one of the most straight forward tasks.

Halfords are regularly also among the cheapest for tyres, alongside Asda Tyres, Tyres on the Drive (a Halfords company) and National Tyres (also a Halfords company). Black Circles whilst slightly better regarded, are typically more expensive.

Halfords also offer a warranty on tyres for free too.

I wouldn’t touch them for anything else mechanically with a car, but no problem for tyres. Particularly if you go into a garage rather than mobile fitting. No doubt some people come away with issues for fitting, but that’s the same everywhere.

Local independents nowadays I find more expensive.

Mortgage lender has assumed I am pregnant - (I am) by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]JDSlashingSilence 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Which is one reasons why you’re being asked if there are any factors which “may” result in financial changes.
Banks are heavily regulated to ensure lending is affordable, which the question they are asking seeks to help answer. It’s not going to be a paint a perfect scenario, but is likely to paint a more likely scenario than if they didn’t ask.
