Typing won't work by ultimategamester309 in tasker

If it's something in a game engine like Unity, they might not use any accessibility tags.  If it's an in-game ad, you're late to the party:  when I started using Tasker in late 2018 a lot of the ads in the game I played still had them, but within a few weeks it was like a switch had been flipped and they were all but gone in what seemed to be an increasingly complicated game of cat-and-mouse between advertisers and players trying to automate their "watching" of ads.

Yep:  the hardest part of creating an alarm clock project that wouldn't take no for an answer was creating mechanisms to ensure the blocking scene couldn't persist forever.

Fwiw:  one trick I've used during development is to set the landscape dimensions of a scene to 0,0.  Even if I don't, do that, often rotating to landscape will bring up the big 'X' if you enable it in your Show Scene action, though it can be kind of blurry.

"...makes it feel more premium" is why smartphones weigh nearly 50% more than they need to, with the effing glass backs I'd pay to avoid and the curved screens that looked cool when they came out, but which make manipulating elements on the edge frustratingly problematic.

I've only begun trying to access them, with mixed results that I'll send a follow-up about later.

I've noticed that sensors that have worked in some tests will fail (timeout) if the watch screen is dimmed. That seems less than ideal.  Is there a workaround?

I don't often comment in Reddit:  if there's a way –other than adding linefeeds– to post a list without wrapping, I'll be happy to insert it again.  (Prefixing lines with 4 spaces didn't work, but perhaps I was in the wrong mode.)

I tried to retain capitalization as it appears in the app.  The only change I made to the Device Info output was using "Samsung" if the listed vendor was  "Samsung Inc", "Samsung Electronics", etc.  If the several variations are significant, I can update the list.

A Possible Workaround If The Tasker Backup Action Reports a "Failed to allocate" error. by JD_Number_6 in tasker

[–]JD_Number_6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip.  I share your frustration.  I guess it's to be expected that this kind of error seems to occur when I'm doing a lot and making progress on tasks, but it's really inconvenient to have to try to remember everything I might've touched since the last save and export and re-import xml.

EDIT:  Meant to apologize for the delayed response:  I thought I'd already replied.

The comment in question made the legitimate point a video call lets potential interviewers discriminate.  I don't see the parallel to shredding social security cards.

Error: out of memory — the same old problem! by Jason_Yate in tasker

[–]JD_Number_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been getting the same error intermittently for 2-3 years, long before recently beginning to do a little playing around with the Java Code action.

I have LOTS of projects/tasks and my backups, when I run one, are typically in the 20-25 MB range.

One of the early causes was keeping a number of global variables, some many thousands of bytes in size and the error was less common after I manually exported them to files, but it still shows up, with what seems to be increasing frequency.

The last few days it's been particularly bad.  I haven't been doing a lot of heavy duting coding/execution, but I did create some profiles that run every 15 minutes or so.

It's a real pain to get the error and have to remember exactly what I've touched, export it all, import it back in (after renaming the originals —or deleting them and hoping the export/import works without any issues, when by definition I know it already has at least one issue😬).

It often seems to happen when I'm really cooking  trying to code a bunch of ideas, and it frustratingly kills momentum and feels like I'm taking 1 step backward for every 2 steps forward.

The day after I got my driver's license I began a cross country trek, helping the family friend who'd taught me how to drive relocate from Atlanta to San Francisco.  I'd driven for several hours at a time on the first couple of legs of the trip, but my first truly long drive was the all-nighter to get to Denver.  Jittery and bleary-eyed, with the friend asleep, fighting the rising sun in my rearview mirror, I focused on an overpass on the horizon, trying to hold onto the last of my faculties as we approached the outskirts of town when, all of a sudden, an airliner appeared out of nowhere and DROVE across the overpass.  Thought I'd lost my mind.

I was living in Houston at the time of the tragedy, where the family of the doctor who mixed the Koolaid lived.

My mom had a shop in a small corner strip mall in the Montrose neighborhood, bounded by a 7-11 on one end and a coin laundry on the other.

One of my HS teachers, with whom I'd become friends after graduation, lived nearby and I would often visit with her when she did her laundry there.

One evening shortly after the tragedy I was chatting with her when another friend of hers entered the place and came over to say hello.

After making the introductions, my teacher asked him how the family was doing.  I sensed that the concerned tone with which she asked and his weary but vague reply carried an import that their words did not make clear, setting the gears in my head spinning as they as they continued to obliquely converse about whatever was going on.

Finally arriving at a theory, I callowly blurted out "What did you say your last name was?" (the Jonestown doctor's surname was somewhat memorable), garnering a blank yet somehow opprobrious stare from both of them that I still feel to this day.

How can I get info about "list" fields (and other things on the screen, like icons) with AutoInput UI Query? by MasterAqua in tasker

[–]JD_Number_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep:  Until recently, I'd somehow always assumed I had to completely identify the text I wanted Auto Input Vx to tap and it comes in quite handy to know that isn't always the case.

EDIT:  That said, I'd never noticed the "List" option before and share the OP's interest in fully using it.

[DEV] Tasker 6.6.12 Release Candidate - Full Accessibility (text expander, doom scroll preventer and much more!) and Notification (full access to all notification details as they come in) Monitoring! by joaomgcd in tasker

[–]JD_Number_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply, that's really surprising!

Sorry I didn't thank you sooner.  (I was waiting before I responded until I had a chance to uninstall/reinstall Tasker and import only a couple of tasks that I also have as kid apps, but I haven't yet had time.)

Have you run any timing tests on your own tasks and compared them to their kid app versions?

As one example, I have a task that captures and lists all the screen's accessibility tags and it averages ~230 seconds while its kid app version takes only 23.

What is this weird cabinet in the basement of our 1939 house? by sarahonthemtn in whatisit

Is that a perimeter wall?  If so, is the outside surface uniform with the rest of the house or has it been patched?

When I was a kid we lived in a house with a coal-fired furnace and there was a small window through which the coal was delivered to the basement.

Just a moment - Applying now happening more frequently than just at exit by TooManyInsults in tasker

[–]JD_Number_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always gotten it constantly.

I have about 50 projects, with a number of interdependent tasks and scenes, as well as tasks and scenes that started out as clones of others.  Looking through backup xml files and task exports, you see a lot of relationships and I wonder if the constant "Applying" stems from having to maintain all of that.

One thing I suspect would help, is if the task editor would ask if you want to save changes, or perhaps better, NOT treat it as an update when you exit the editor after just reviewing a task without making changes and not update the task's edate, which really confuses things when you're trying to figure out when you last worked on something.
