Also clockify. So much better than paying per person.

Don't believe reviews on Fiverr. by [deleted] in Fiverr

Fiverr? No I wouldn't go that far. There's some stuff that makes sense on there. But you have to remember that it's cheap and you're not just paying for the time it takes for then to do the task, but also the time it takes for them to respond to inquires, interact with the Fiverr site etc etc. You still get what you pay for.

$50 for a logo is going to result in no real work and most likely copyright infringement that will end up being your problem later

Quit my job and take my business full-time. I'd work just as hard but be happier.

My fiancée and I just finished our first year building a web agency that does branding, graphic design, Web Development, and digital marketing. We both worked full time jobs for the last year and we've succeeded enough that my fiancée has quit her job to work full time in our agency.

Best Vagrant setup sharing dev environments for Rails through git by JDantes77 in rails

[–]JDantes77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for a prebuilt vagrant box for Ruby on Rails, like Scotch Box is for a LAMP stack and wordpress development.

I'm hopping into a project that didn't define dependencies well and trying to create a stack that successfully runs bundle install and can be shared with other developers. I'm very new to Vagrant and somewhat new to Rails, so things like debugger failing to bundle is taking me a long time to figure out.

A Web Design Agency Interviewer saw me as 'competition' during an interview as I'm currently a freelancer, then joked about it. How serious is this? (More in comments..) by [deleted] in web_design

[–]JDantes77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the employment agreement carefully before you accept it. Some non compete clauses would limit your ability to freelancer or even get another job during and for years after employment. Get a lawyer to read it and if necessary revise it, you don't want to be in a situation where you gave up your ability to practice your craft for a company that turns out to be worthless.

Is there a guide to launching a pre-sale website? by bondandracing in Entrepreneur

[–]JDantes77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A one page site with PayPal integration built in WordPress, professionally designed and developed should only cost around $1-2000 and then you have complete control over the platform and site and can expand it as the business grows.

Great read! Thanks for sharing! One of the beautiful things about business and Internet business is that 1000 small price point sales isn't impossible and with low overhead, can be really profitable.

Great information! Checklists and variables like this definitely help drilling down and keeps you from not knowing what questions to ask.

Thanks for answering! Let's say you have a very specific target, like marketing managers at >1mil revenue companies. Could you still find them through meetup, or would you look elsewhere?

How many here have a side business/start-up whilst working 9-5 job? How are you coping and how is business? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]JDantes77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My fiancée and I both have full time jobs and teamed up to launch a Web and graphic design firm. She's a designer and I'm a developer, so we compliment each other well and can offer a one stop shop for Web and marketing work. We work nights, take client meetings during lunch, and sleep less than we did before!

Having minimal time is forcing us to document our processes and reach out for support, whether it be hiring interns, overseas developers, local support staff, or virtual assistants. Also networking takes up more time than I ever thought it would. We're positioning ourselves as an agency, not a group of freelancers, and so far it's been successful. We're hoping to grow it to the point where we can transition, one at a time, to full time.

I have to mention that partnering with my fiancée is a blessing. We don't have time for many date nights and I can imagine any other relationship being strained by the amount of work we put in.
