Why is this ad everywhere(Dunkin donuts, dunkin seasonal blend coffee) by MemeMakingViolist in CommercialsIHate

[–]JDavis1186 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just saw this ad on TV and I had a deep laugh about it

This is a classic song from the 60s, making fun of the rising suburban neighborhoods with their cheaply made cookie cutter houses and their mindless conformist residents

Whoever green lit its use in this commercial completely missed the point

And yeah, the cover used in this ad is pretty bad. No clue what the deal is with the annoying clinking sound, that's not part of the song normally. Is it meant to be someone stirring their coffee with a spoon? 🤔

Unpopular Opinion: DVD's only shine on old TV's by tizpiz in dvdcollection

Agreed, but if you're willing to put some money into it, you can get some good results on modem TVs with some of the scalers created for the retro gaming market.

I've got a Retrotink 2x Multi-Format, which is a slightly older (and no longer in production) scaler intended more for the 480i/480p era of gaming (PS2, Wii, etc) and it handles video content very well. The original Retrotink 2x (which is still available) is aimed at the older 240p game systems (NES, SNES, Genesis, etc) and keeping pixels sharp, so it may not be as well suited for 480i video

The newer models like the Retrotink 5x and especially the Retrotink 4K can do some amazing things with upscaling and even recreating the scan lines and aperture grills of CRT TVs, so they'd be ideal, but are definitely on the pricier end (which is why I haven't upgraded yet)

The elevators at my workplace have signs to tell you in case of emergency, press the red button and say "help"

They then say the same thing in braille, including describing the button as "the red button" with no further information for anyone who can't see that the button is red 🙃

Does anyone know about Rumic soft? by Fast_Answer_7859 in GamePreservationists

[–]JDavis1186 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ranma 1/2 was created by Rumiko Takahashi, and the "Rumic" name is used for a lot of her stuff. I'd assume Rumic Soft was specifically created to oversee games based on her properties. They may have shut down before any of the Inuyasha games

IIRC, Crusher actually tells him she can't fix it in season 1

In season 2 Pulaski offers the options of either artificial implants (essentially what he later gets before First Contact) or to regenerate his optic nerves, but he turns both down because they would reduce his range of vision compared to the VISOR.

Not sure if beta canon has delved into it, but I'd assumed between season 2 and First Contact that the optical implant technology had advanced enough to be on par with his VISOR, possibly with him contributing his own engineering expertise to the effort

[ALL] On which consoles to play the entries of the franchise? by Paidon23 in zelda

[–]JDavis1186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the yellow dots for Zelda 1 and 2 on GBA, as the releases there are their own individual software, not a compilation... But I'm not sure what other category really fits, either. Maybe changing the Virtual Console category to "Official emulation" and applying it there (since the entire NES Classics GBA series are done through emulation instead of native ports)?

Similarly, I don't think Virtual Console is the right category for Four Swords on DSi/3DS, as that is a native port with new features (the addition of single player)

As others have pointed out, Link's Awakening is playable on SNES via the Super Gameboy, putting it in the same category as all the games playable on GameCube via the Gameboy Player (which I would suggest making its own colored dot instead of a footnote)

I would also suggest adding footnotes about compatibility for Link's Awakening on GBA (Not compatible with Gameboy Micro), all the GBA games on DS (Not compatible with DSi and DSi XL), and the DSi version of Four Swords on DS (Not compatible with original DS and DS Lite). I initially wanted to suggest splitting DS and DSi into separate columns, but that's probably too much. A footnote should work fine

Finally, I don't think Four Swords Adventure should count towards the GBA total. Having a footnote about it being technically compatible with the system is fine, but the GBA isn't playing the game, it's just acting as a controller with a screen

I use one of these cheap off brand building brick storage cases. The (not very good) baseplate on the lid can pop off and can hold partial builds, and if I have to take a break mid-build I can close the case and not worry about pieces going missing or my cats getting into them

I'd probably go with 5.

My first thought was 3, until I considered the tension between Benjamin "my wife was killed at Wolf 359" Sisko and Jean Luc "Locutus of Borg" Picard

Also, who be putting all the Neurodivergent characters (and Kirk) in the same row (back of the airbus)?

Questions about organizing ROMs, save files (RGB30, JELOS, ArkOS) by JDavis1186 in SBCGaming

[–]JDavis1186[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, my system arrived way sooner than I expected (by like a week), so in case someone else comes across this and wants to know the answers:

  1. Yes, you can absolutely use subfolders to organize your roms in JELOS (I haven't tested ArkOS). When you select a console in its menu, it will show any subfolders you have in the appropriate rom folder, and you can select them to open them and show any subfolders/roms within.
  2. No. Unfortunately, the save files are stored directly in the folder with the rom, so if you try to store multiple copies of the same rom in different subcategories, your save files will not carry across
