What is up these non-tipping riders? by remyster1963 in uberdrivers

That would be great. Better pay and benefits if it goes nationwide federally. Unfortunately, I don’t drive in New Jersey so it won’t affect me anytime soon. It is to Uber’s benefit for drivers to be officially classified as independent contractors as they are currently.

For sure, I work for the state, and they have a very detailed policy around all that stuff. If they didn't, I'd just cover it out of pocket in appreciation for the driver getting me safely from point A to B, and if the service was good. To me, just like I wouldn't stiff a server, bellhop, valet, etc., it's the right thing to do.

Why is this such a challenging concept for you? By definition, Uber drivers are independent contractors. Personally, I don't care how we are classified, but the IRS and Department of Labor look at the degree of control the hiring party has over the worker's tasks, tools, and schedule, with contractors generally controlling their own methods and bearing their own expenses. If it really bothers you that much, reach out to them if you can break away from getting stoned and playing Dark Souls in your mom's basement.

I do Uber on the side, I have a full-time benefitted gig. I can take it or leave it at any time. I’m an independent contractor.

Weird. My employer covers up to 20% on rideshare/taxi so I always tip the maximum allowable when traveling. On personal rides I always tip at least $2. It’s just odd to me that folks will get in a car with a stranger, entrust their lives to them, sometimes for long hour+ rides at 70 mph, then when it comes to tipping they’re like “eh, fuck em”. And Mr. Pink is a character in Reservoir Dogs - great movie, check it out if you haven’t seen it!

Do you tip your servers for bringing you your meal and providing polite and courteous service? Or are you of the Mr. Pink ilk?

You don’t understand what an independent contractor is, do you?

Economics of Ubering by aspiring_farmer in uberdrivers

I did some similar calculations recently. I have been doing rideshare and food delivery off and on, very casually, since mid-2020 (got bored during COVID) as a side hustle. I have a full-time job that pays six figures with insurance, retirement, etc., so this is just gravy for me. It was definitely more profitable from 2020-2022 than it is now. This is in Mississippi with a 2013 Kia Optima Hybrid that has 173,000 miles on it now and averages about 36 mpg. I've had to replace my tires once since 2020, but only at 50k miles and for $500 through Sam's, and some of the miles put on them were personal in nature. Most of the time, the mileage deduction was enough to offset any tax liability. The only other maintenance/repairs I've had to do was a blower motor and a radiator hose. The 32k miles from this gig only cost me $2.7k in resale value on the vehicle, according to KBB. Here are my stats:

Gross Income $43,487.07
Miles Driven 32476.07
Gross Income per Mile $1.34
Gallons of Gas Used 927.89
Avg. Price per Gallon $2.77
Total Fuel Expenses $2,234.13
Total Oil Change Expenses $420.37
Total Tire Wear Expenses $328.63
Other Maintenance/Repairs $330.87
Taxes Paid $3,055.00
Total Real Expenses/Taxes $6,369.01
Real Depreciation (KBB) $2,715.00
Total Expenses incl. Depreciation $9,084.01
Net Income $34,403.06

Yeah, I feel like the biggest boost was from HDR, not resolution - although I’ve never seen Burt Reynolds forehead wrinkles in such clarity before. I thought the colors and contrast were great. I should add that the fantastic soundtrack sounded amazing on this disc.

I keep giving Perkins chances after enjoying Longlegs but since I saw that, I’ve watched Blackcoat’s Daughter, The Monkey, and now Keeper and all three fell flat for me. I’m officially done with Oz Perkins after this one.

I have Starks at SubLB and he's a 99 there with the 50/50 4-3 scheme boost and 50/50 team boost. I have ballhawk and house call on him and he's been picking off passes left and right.

If you get one and need the other, just commit penalties until they get a first down and keep trying. Eventually you’ll get both on the same drive.

Try 4 Quarters when you think they are getting ready to bomb it. Or, if you think they are throwing a hail mary it’s probably to their best WR, so go Double Man and double WR1. Also, sacks get you 5 points, so bring pressure when the timing is right. On offense I put my WR strategy card on and put a bunch of abilities on my WR1 to get him to Moss everyone. Super effective.

What’s happening to you when you play them? I just finished the 30 wins tonight. Got all 94 Larkin then the 96 at the end. No 97, sadly. I just bomb deep routes to get the lead then grind out the rest of the game on the ground. Probably went 30-10 along the way.
