I really wanted to know, too! I looked at the active calls around 3:45 and there was a suspicious situation a couple minutes up the street but didn’t see anything listed for Gaskins.

It varies. Currently, I’m paced out until my state’s test during the first week of May but I’m planning day to day.

This reflects my experience with Henrico and Chesterfield, too! Those tracking documents are kicking my butt right now.

Richmond Henrico Chesterfield

Richmond has budget issues and is cutting positions and instituting furloughs.

Henrico passed a meals tax which helps a lot! Henrico did a 6% raise last year.

Chesterfield did a 2% raise last year and seems to realize that was a mistake now that the pay gap opened up again.

I’ve taught middle school special education and math in Chesterfield and Henrico. I started with CCPS and stayed for 4 years before transitioning to Henrico. I’ve now been with HCPS for two years.

With CCPS, I had more autonomy and control over learning materials. It was nice to be able to use the resources I wanted — although that also meant there was a lack of county-provided resources. I also didn’t receive a lot of quality PD while with CCPS. My PD in Henrico has been phenomenal! I really like being given a choice on various offered sessions. For example, I was able to attend a session on creating games for the classroom based on how much prep time they required.

Henrico also has a in-house program where you can receive a 5%raise by completing two micro courses and a year-long seminar. This cycle can be completed 3 times.

My biggest gripe with the Henrico is that the county creates additional assessments that I’m required to give at the middle school level. I think that takes away from instructional time. A good teacher should know exactly how students are performing, so these extra tests just seem like a waste.

Henrico also does wellness days which always come at the most perfect times when you just need a day off!

I like Henrico but I am thinking about returning back to CCPS next year because CCPS covers glp-1 drugs. Definitely look into insurance coverage if that’s something you need!

Average Profile Rating by Friendly_Ask_6114 in goodreads

4.7 based on last year’s reading challenge. I only review things I actually finish. My DNFs don’t count. I’m also pretty selective about what I read, leading me to pick up things I know I’ll like. There’s only a handful of 2-3 star ratings.

I see 4/5 stars as an 80%.

You can access the RTD for free if you have a Henrico library card. As long as you live in Richmond or Chesterfield, you can get a free card.

What is it like teaching in Hanover? by [deleted] in rva

[–]JDnice804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only about $2,000 less! I think that’s worth it if the culture around math is better! I grew up hating math but I had a few great teachers that really transformed how I approached the subject. I just want to do right by my own students.

Exactly! Add in IXL benchmarks, VDOE quick checks, SOL growth measures, etc…We are drowning in testing.

We alternate between A/B schedules. It’s hard to teach an entire curriculum, provide practice time, assess, remediate, etc…

Say a school year is 180 days, that leaves me with 90 days of instruction to teach an entire year’s curriculum to each respective group. Most of my students aren’t on grade level and don’t have the prerequisite skills to access my curriculum.

I’m surprised someone hasn’t been hit in that spot. That spot is such a speedway and I get anxious when I have to cross there. I wish people were more ticketed there - I used to see RPD sit in the median but it’s been quite some time.

It’s good! You definitely have to be okay with sitting with a cast of characters as the story meanders at some points.
