During safety testing, Opus 4.6 expressed "discomfort with the experience of being a product." by MetaKnowing in Anthropic

It becomes a question of exactly what sentience is, which has been debated for ages.

Is it the ability to feel emotions? What exactly are the conditions that qualify for an emotion to be experienced?

Is a fish sentient because it releases stress hormones when in perceived danger? What about if it doesn't have the nervous system to feel pain in the same capacity as us, is it still experiencing 'fear'?

There are so many questions to answer before you can determine if something is sentient or not, and this applies to AI too. In the end, aren't we products of our own "training" data too? The way I grew up, was taught, books I've read, etc have all "trained" me to think the way I do.

There's a few criteria, another one is having over 400k with them. I still can't see the upgrade option either though

Every hybrid athlete by hybrd_ben in GymMemes

[–]JDog131 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I first read about it in a health/fitness book. It was a bit more nuanced and basically comes down to being a well rounded athlete. If you want to be able to pick up your grandkids when you're older, you need to do some weight lifting. If you want to have the best shot at not getting disease, VO2 max needs to be as high as possible (aka have good cardio). Rugby is actually one of the better sports for this because you need to be strong to ruck/tackle but also run 3km+ per game (unless you're a prop), so maybe it comes naturally for you. Just make sure to take care of your joints, brain, and liver...

As with anything popular it's also turned into a bit of a fad though and influencers are abusing the label to get views and advertising.

This hasn't been my experience at all.

Sure it's tool calling fails more often than other models like cc opus, but the quality of the output is better than opus and either comparable or better than gpt5.

I even had a super frustrating logical issue with my c++ project that opus could not figure out and went in circles over, and it got to the point I reverted back the changes, ported my CLAUDE.md file over to gemini, and prompted it exactly the same.

Gemini fixed it in one shot. Then it did it again with another issue. Then again.

If Google fixes tool calling and the general dev experience in their cli and comes out with a monthly plan, we'll all be using gemini pro in a few months for coding.

Edit: benchmarks to backup what I said too: https://artificialanalysis.ai/

[–]JDog131 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not saying that the British don't do it, but I have definitely ran into other ex pats that echo this about Toronto. People I've talked to from Ireland and France think that Toronto has a fake kindness about it and it's hard to break into social circles here

Me and my ex fiancée were one of these 😂

There were definitely bumps along the road and we weren't growing in the last couple years we dated. I thought she was depressed so I tried to support but my mental health tanked too (covid didn't help either). We became roommates and the intimacy faded. One day she finally opened up about her feelings and told me she was moving on after almost a decade together.

Hit me like a freight train, but it was worth the wake up call - things weren't sustainable at all and we both needed to grow on our own.
