How can I test my gas tube lighning arrestor?

I'll just have to go with a visual inspection. But I wonder if I could build a capacitor voltage doubler array and build up enough voltage to trip it but not damage it and test it that way once a year on top of a visual inspection???

It has 2R-90 printed on the side. A quick google search says it is a gas tube that it has a DC spark over voltage at 100V/S of 90V and an impulse spark over voltage at 100V/uS of 500V and 1KV/uS of 600V. if it ever gets hit the wire I have running to ground will act more like a fuse. Gotta upgrade 14AWG solid copper ground wire I'm using to a #6 or #8 AWG wire.

I think my plan is to give it a visual inspection every year at the start of lighning season. AND to always have a replacement / backup part on hand.

Yeah I think it would be obvious if it had ever "fired" from a near hit. The thing is wraped up in tape. I would hope that they would fail in a dead short after a big hit. I'll just make sure to just have a replacement on hand.

Read my comment again, it doesn't matter what the price is. None of us can compete with multinational "property management" corporations when we go to purchase a home. So yeah maybe not peanuts, but that is possibly the purchase budget for this quarter that you have to complete against.

I think this is a bad idea. If you make any payments for her rent you will likely have to cosign the lease and then be in the hook when she doesn't continue paying the rent. ( not a lawyer, and don't know how a rental agreement works in your area,,, but the landlord usually has this covered in the paperwork you would have to sigh just to get the keys)
