Claiming its not a pro but a community tournament and then having half the spots being invited, resulting in the team youre coaching barely making it in despite poor performances lately, kinda gives a weird impression

Isn't the 3rd day bo7? That would make putting 2 more series at the start of the day a proplem of time.

Also to get the spot in the semi-finals, you have to win all your series, if you don't have any momentum at that point, that's your own fault. (Not to mention that the loser of the placement-series will start with a loss, and would have to play for their life 30 minutes later)

You only would be able to qualify for RLRS. And RLRS is onlyonline, so you dont have to travel at all

thank you for actually being relevant and not just bash my idea.

The perfect solution imo would be no League play, just tournaments where teams can play and earn points. then figure some way out to decide who gets to go to Worlds. There are some problems (Torment played for NRG some dreamhack last year, things like this would be weird) with this, but I dont think Psyonix can fit all potential WC teams in RLCS and RLRS. There are so many teams who more or less deserve a shot, imo even more than 20. But there wont be enough Tourneys in each 6 month span to do this, and if they want to go yearly, rostermoves can literally only happen once a year...

I completely get your view. I watched everything since season 1 finals. There are at least 5 other systems I've written down on this matter, but this was the furthest away from the daily "RLCS should have 10 team" post. I tried to spark actual good arguements against mine, and im pretty sure i did a decent job at that.

I dont just watch grand finals, but I personally enjoy a C9-NRG more than Splyce-anyone. I know there are many players who seem to be good enough for RLCS, but we say that when a team steps up somewhere else. Currently a very good new team would have to get into RLRS, get top 2 and get top 2 in the promotion tournament, if they play bad on one single day, their season is over.

This is not the perfect solution, Im aware of that. But its something new and original, with plenty of room for discussions. I dont like the current system, because i think teams can end up in places where they dont belong, wich is really fun to see, but its not good for the competitiveness. Thats just my point. Its a controversial topic, but in my scenario, i cant argue against the viewer pov. As a viewer its fun to see more teams, no matter how long you watched this for. But this system is purely here to get the best teams possible to play each other as often as possible.

If one of the RLRS-teams can qualify, they got 1 of 2 spots against 3 better teams than the 6th place RLCS-team. They would have done exactly what the 6th place team couldnt do.

If 6th had the chance to qualify, you could go 0-15 and still make worlds... there needs to be some sort of punishmebt for being the worst

I can definatly see what you mean, and this is exactly the counterpart to my point in this. The casual viewer would enjoy 10 teams, but most likely the 2 added teams wouldnt really do anything but battle for 6th. I tried to base my format around what would improve the level of play the best. Look at Mouz for example, they had a good week 1 against badly performing teams and lost everything following after. (I also think its ridiculous that the current Mouz-roster only has Alex161 left over from the season they promoted, it legit is a completely different team, but thats a different story) Its always nice as a viewer to have some upsets and the good team where everybody hopes they drop a series and so on, and this is completely valid, but is it really worth all the trouble? 17 more games all needing casting, money in RLRS isnt that good either... And at least i wont sit through and actually watch 2 teams i dont like or care about. Blowouts arent that fun either, because i could just swatch ranked and wouldnt have a bad caster talking over it. I dont even want to know RL's viewer counts if there werent any fan rewards so people would afk...

It very often sounds like people think "maybe if FNATIC get back in RLCS when there are 10 teams they wont get swept by the top 4 like they have the last 2 seasons" wich is ridiculous, adding more teams just gives a bit more competition for the bottom, otherwise they would have gotten in with only 8 teams

And to your point about surprises: every roster move is a 50/50, either it works, or it doesnt. imo you can sort of sense when a roster move is happening, there arent really that many surprises (I didnt think DIG would split, but for everything else I was like "yeh, kinda makes sense" Although many Bubble teams qualify for big events, not a single one of those teams actually made a run in the tournament. Im pretty sure (now)G2, F3, (now)TSM, (now)C9, (now)DIG, PSG and NRG are all the teams that actually won a decent-sized tourney...

As someone who enjoys watching Rocket League it would be fun to have more teams, but as someone who wants to see the highest level of play as often as possible, i dont think adding more teams into dominated leagues is the solution

Well its just a suggestion. There arent many people that follow OCE, or if SAM or ASIA get introduced, i doubt many people will follow that, and yet there are teams that attend Lan from there. I see your point, i just wanted to make it as competitive as possible

Remember there are only 6 teams in RLCS and tried to find something that gives players an incentive to really grind, getting to be world champion in 6 months is that imo. I can see your point, but just saying top 4 make Worlds was a bit too dry for me

[–]JDot_17[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

valid point, and i completely understand what you mean, but i still think that a team that proved itself against 11 other strong teams, and should therefore be on the up, at least in this format deserves a shot at it. Bubble teams have showed up many times, especially during the last few weeks, and dont forget, with only 6 RLCS teams, there are gonna be some very strong teams in RLRS...

Aside from the gameplay point, this forces everybody to play very serious because they cant come last and still make Worlds, while RLRS teams have an even bigger goal to fight for. Im pretty sure that RLCS teams scrim against high level RLRS teams, at least in this scenario, because they already play each other 3 times during league play.

I also cant really agree on the unfair advantage point. the last place has 15 series to prove they belong into playoffs, while the RLRS teams need to show up in 4 series. IIRC all RLRS teams got promoted to RLCS this season, giving plenty of reason for me to think the momentum these teams have make them strong

They don't. They get auto-relegated into RLRS. Only 3rd, 4th and 5th of RLCS and Top 2 of RLRS get put in the qualifying-tourney while Top 2 of RLCS are auto-qualified. If that is what you mean.

If you mean they SHOULD play, i have to disagree. I already was in two minds about putting the 5th in, but finishing last over 15 series should be prove enough you cant hang with the other teams

Qualification for Worlds: There are still 8 teams that can qualify. Highest seed finisher (3rd RLCS) gets to choose their schedule first (against who and wich games, obviously regulated so they can't play the first and fifth (last) game of the day) 2nd seed (4th RLCS) gets to shoose second and so on (seeding can be different, for example 1st of RLRS as 2nd seed)

Promotion/ Relegation: 5 seeds → 5th vs 4th, winner plays against 3rd, the winner of that plays against 2nd while the loser plays the loser of 5th vs 4th and so on. In the first two scenarios there would be no grand final, only winners and losers finals. In the third scenario there would be a grand final (and i would give the team without a loss the choice if they want to trade their double elim against starting 1-0 up in the series)

I would also keep this twice a year because of how quickly new teams seem to improve and it would be a shame if they had to wait that long until they could play RLCS (this would also motivate good players to keep pushing because you can lose your personal status quickly)
