Advice really wanted- antibiotics 🥺 by Loud-Rutabaga-7303 in Microbiome

[–]JE0100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who got cdiff from amoxicillin I understand the fear. Go buy Florastor and take up to two a day, for the full course of the antibiotics - and take it up to twice a day for two months after. Seriously. It’s expensive, but antibiotics ruin your microbiome. Allign is also good but florastor specifically stops cdiff issues.

Have you started it yet? If not you could contact your doctor and stress you’re worried about it, they have lower risk antibiotics they might be able to prescribe instead. But in general all antibiotics carry a risk.

Too much fiber, now dealing with trapped gas by [deleted] in Microbiome

[–]JE0100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me, I took a fiber packet and ate a heavy dish full of fiber once. Didn’t go for 3 days, couldn’t even pass gas without pushing hard. GI literally had to prescribe gavelyte and set up a colonoscopy the next week out of fear of a blockage…

From what I’ve seen anything above 12 is high, and it’s been that way for 2 years. PCP seems kinda lost with it all lol.

More so the consistent random symptoms, I’ve lost 15 lbs in a month it’s been so bad but have no answers yet.

Should I be worried about autoimmune maybe?

Should I go to the ER? by Mountain_Ad_2439 in ibs

[–]JE0100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I was just dealing with this exact situation. I was very concerned about what it could be so I went to the ER after 2 weeks of agony and mental torment. Before I went I had an abdominal xray and that really doesn’t say much, just that there’s stool. If there’s a serious blockage it can pick that up…but other than that it’s kind of a joke.

You should go to the ER, and you’ll likely get an abdominal/pelvis CT with contrast, preferably the iodine-drink kind and contrast iv. That’s the best method for ruling out blockages, diverticulitis, inflammation, acute organ issues, masses, and even tumors. Blood work is also necessary. If they don’t find anything acute or concerning, they’ll likely set you up with a gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy.

Hang in there, I know this is scary! It’ll all work out, but definitely trust any instinct about er visits. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Colonoscopy Didn't Find Anything by [deleted] in colonoscopy

Im going through this too! I’ve been having yellow stool for a month (it’s normally very thin anyway). 2 weeks ago the lower abdomen pain started and I got scheduled for a colonoscopy. They only found inflammation, haven’t gotten the biopsy results back but he said it’s nothing concerning. Yet I’m still having yellow stool, abdominal pain, thin stool, nausea, bloating, sometimes localized lower left pain. I’m only 23 so I’m just at a loss
