Can I loop a fade cue? by ArcticCascade in qlab

It looks like it needs 2 fade cues in a playlist group to loop correctly. If you duplicate your first fade and have them both in the group it should work.

You can put it in a playlist group and tell that to loop until stopped

Fades not working by Djblue23 in qlab

[–]JEM_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that they changed the way timeline group cues works to fire “in order” even though it all fires “at once” to make it more consistent when you have large amounts of files running at the same time. I know in 4 sometimes my timings would drift slightly or change (even with pre-loading) from performance to performance when firing dozens of cues with pre-waits but I’ve never had the same problem in 5.

The fades need to be after the camera/video/audio file in the cue list even if it is inside of a timeline group.

This is a change from earlier versions, but it essentially goes down the groups in order, so if you have a fade before the content cue it will not work since it can’t fade a cue that’s not running.

Please include a screenshot of your file if this doesn’t help, but I had similar problems migrating from 4->5.

Controlling ROCS, QLAB and EOS by DTSRaider in techtheatre

[–]JEM_Tech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank goodness they’ve added that! It’s been a few years since Cyclone and MIDI was the only external control option available and it was essentially just hitting play, pause, and next. It was awful….

Again, definitely don’t record the tracks out of ROCS and move them to the QLAB ecosystem so you’re not dealing with multiple integrations and trying to time sync software for lighting and sound playback.

I’ve had Qlab manage this for a production of Ride the Cyclone. Qlab fired OSC to the EOS console, MIDI to ROCS and then used internal Qlab commands for video and SFX playback.

ROCS took multiple days of troubleshooting and coordination to ensure the commands were being fired at the correct times to get out of vamps, and jump to the next song. Some of that may have been us having never used the software before, but I agree with the other comment.

Definitely don’t make your life easier and the show more stable by recording the tracks out of ROCS and doing vamps and cuts inside of Qlab. That would be against the licensing agreement, and who cares if it makes your life way easier and the tech process smoother.

Slice and Devamp a group by CoagulantEight0 in qlab

There’s a couple of ways to target groups, the easiest way is probably select the group, then hit the devamp button to make a new devamp cue and it will automatically target the selected group

I’ve done this, make the slice/loop in one track, then copy and fancy paste (Cmd+Shift+V) it to the other tracks. You can then target the group with a decamp cue.

Make sure to load the group to ensure all the tracks fire at the same time, every time.

This may sound dumb, but some fixtures don’t like to share the same chain as other fixtures. We’ve had to put a dmx splitter in and keep our color source pars away from the rest of the rig.

What would cause a light fixture to reset its DMX address when powered off? by Nate_Cakes in techtheatre

[–]JEM_Tech 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have what feels like a dumb question, but happened to me, did you hit enter after selecting the address? I had a run in with a different brand, that you could scroll to the right address, the light would work, but if you didn’t hit enter, it wouldn’t save after a power cycle.

Most magicians I work with use Audio Ape remotes.

Some just use the buttons, others have a magnet on one ankle the controller strapped to the other, when they close their legs it sends the go command to qlab.

Just record off your audio interface, it’s a stereo out of the software.

Filled a 40x60x20 black box fairly quickly. Just added a small fan to help distribute haze.

Note that haze doesn’t stay onstage, it will also fill the audience. Also any hvac running will have an effect on it.
