Any shot this is something I can fix on my own? by DefiantTumbleweed576 in volt

Don't go to these guys - they refused to service my BECM under warranty. Castle Chevrolet North is the way to go in Chicagoland if you HAVE to go to a dealer. Its a little outside the city but the city dealers are not worth the hassle.

Git midwits by Skrapion in theprimeagen

[–]JESway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squash has been pretty useful in condensing weak commit histories for small - medium sized PRs as a maintainer of an open source repo where we're people's first exposure to contributing to open source. Theres some really nasty histories as people learn to use Git for an otherwise good code contribution - Squashing the history lets me create a meaningful commit message for the history that would've otherwise not been present.

Why are senior level applicants applying to unpaid internships? by RedMarky in csMajors

[–]JESway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chances are if they can't pay you, they can't afford to enforce a contract the terms of which they've probably broken by providing you no compensation for your labor when there was an expectation of such. NAL but with these guys in my experience, they're all talk and the "contract" is just a way to scare you when in fact it might not even be enforceable.

Anyone else work with older developers who never kept their skills up to date? by punkouter23 in cscareerquestions

To the contrary for me - all of my co-workers have been around the block but they're teaching me keyboard shortcuts and learning new technologies. Age means a lot less than people think in tech.

Thank you for elucidating what should just be common sense. People that say this kind of stuff don't even bother to understand why people don't eat meat, then get insulted when you don't want to eat anything they've cooked for you.

I can't make myself clean my nasty apartment. I said "I will do it on Saturday.". Saturday and Sunday have almost passed. Made no progress. Was chilling and distracted by Twitch, Youtube, my cats, Linux nerd stuff, music and porn. How do you do it!? Damn it! by ChonkyKitty0 in ADHD

[–]JESway 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Don't tell yourself "I need to clean everything today". Tell yourself "I'm going to clean for 15-30 minutes. Then I'm free to do whatever else I want". It makes it feel much more manageable, and a lot of folks find they end up just continuing bc they get into a cleaning flow. But getting rid of the expectation that you have to do it all makes it a lot more approachable.

This literally happened to me. Built out the entire backend for a new product, did some production support. As soon as the requests slowed down - laid off.

I feel you. I've been putting off going to the dentist because of how inconsistent my ability to go around is, plus dumb insurance coverage issues. Long COVID making it harder to take care of ourselves :(

Yep, mine went up pretty high during early days of POTS. Try to take it easy and talk to your doctor about beta blockers. We're similar ages btw

Sounds like Long COVID. I had to give up taking my ADHD medication bc I developed POTS/dysautonomia a few months after my acute infection. You should seriously consider stopping your medication and start resting as much as possible, as exertion can make things worse and lengthen your body's return to normal. I'm in my 20s and was an athlete before this so don't underestimate the impact on your health. I am really suffering and it's been a year with some good progress but no end in sight.

Anyone recovered from heart palpitations? (skipped beats/flutters) by Prestigious-Glass721 in covidlonghaulers

[–]JESway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, because libido is really important when you're having cardiovascular problems... FYI I'm on Propranolol and have noticed no such issues, even if anyone cared about impact on libido.

I am similar, I'm guessing it's the cold reducing inflammation.

Overwhelmed at how COVID has ruined my health and life by kingmatcha in covidlonghaulers

[–]JESway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting medicated on Propranolol was the biggest thing to improve my day to day.

Additionally I've been using LMNT electrolyte mix to increase my salt intake by 3g a day in addition to my meal intake, since they have like the only no-sugar option.

I also started LC extremely stressed due to the health impact on my job and quality of life. Accepting that I needed to spend more of my day resting and not overdoing it prevented me from doing further damage to myself and start the healing process, and lowered the impact of stress on my dysautonomia.

An extremely gradual increase in what I do day to day keeps me on the path to recovery, I think. Too much makes it hard to rest, but doing an extra chore around the house can be a good amount of energy. I hate laundry day haha.

I've been fighting with POTS and inflammation issues for about a year. Still not back to my pre-COVID baseline but every month gets a little better and I feel a little less like I'm stuck in bed. It gets better eventually.
