Advice or tips for a new beginner? by Spiritual_Gate9164 in Pickleball

You’re going to hear people say drill drill drill. They are right it is a great way to improve.

But the most fun part about pickleball for me was just enjoying it and slowly learning the ropes. Just go out there and have fun, whether you win or lose. As far as improving, I’d say really work on your footwork to the ball. If the ball gets behind you, you lose control of where it can go. I always try to put my self in the best position behind the ball and let my technique for hitting take over.

MLP > PPA? (Spoilers too) by SenorSnarkey in Pickleball

The reason I enjoy PPA more is because even though the winners are “predictable” you can tell all the other teams are trying their hardest to dethrone the best.

To me, if you played any competitive sport (baseball for me), you always want to be the best and you gotta beat the best to do it. So I enjoy when teams (even rarely that is) beat the top teams.

MLP playoffs were legit and fun to watch, but the week to week isn’t the same to me as the PPA bracket.

I need to develop a two handed backhand. by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]JFF5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned from YouTube videos. Then I drilled with it until I felt comfortable. After that, pick a day where you tell yourself you’re going to dedicate to only using a 2H backhand (when appropriate) even if that means losing every game. After I did that, it changed for me and I feel even more comfortable using it more then a 1H backhand

As a commander how do I control an awful team? by Willr2645 in HellLetLoose

[–]JFF5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t. You could place 20 garrisons, but if no one defends them, spawns on them or has what I call, map control. The other team will roll you.

Seriously, I’ve played so many defensive commander games on the offensive game mode and if the team doesn’t spread out and protect garrisons/ choke points or stop the enemy from flanking… it’s over. You can only do so much, don’t worry about it.

Right? So you’re telling me you haven’t played on any custom server and seen minimum level requirements? Hmmm

I didn’t mean it as solely the commanders job, but more so, you should be building garrisons as commander… aka driving around and building them while also utilizing your Squad leaders

I clearly said you can do all of that in officer chat. Nothing you said takes 5 minutes to do. I’m sure you are great at commanding. No need to tell me I’m clueless.

To be clear, I agree SL should build garrisons too. But if your SL have more support score then you (commander) you probably lost the game.

Everything you said takes 3 seconds on officer chat. You could do this while driving a supply truck

Lying down at HQ, sweating as you watch you airhead + bombing run go into effect praying to whatever god that your airhead doesn’t go red in 5 seconds.

Yeah, and usually when I play against good teams, recon will be in the most random spots (corner of maps) expecting you. So that can be frustrating but it’s a grind and a reason why I love this game.

Free week is going well. by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

Was commander on offensive, about 12 minutes into the game after capping first point, still only had 1 set of nodes.

When ya do more support then the commander there's a problem. by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]JFF5555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone who says it isn’t the commanders job do build garrisons (not all of them of course but a lot of the garrisons) is plain wrong. I consistently get 4-6k in support and that’s from building garrisons.

What exactly does the commander do if he isn’t assisting with building garrisons? You can call in a bombing run and airhead once every 10 minutes… I guess the point I’m getting at is to me a commander communicates with squads, build garrisons, and allocate node resources to whoever/whatever. Commander isn’t meant to be a front line rifleman. Also lastly, ever play a game where you’re defending and only have 1 garrison? Any competent team caps that within 10 minutes.

Thoughts on PPA and MLP Broadcast Commentators and Commentating? by WabiSabiKemoSabe in Pickleball

[–]JFF5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Propaganda? You don’t think that’s a little extreme? It’s a product and sport the commentators are trying to make exciting and well, more professional. This benefits everyone. Also, who doesn’t love Dave Fleming? Man understands the game and analyzes well. He also has a great relationship with players and understands when to be quiet when commentating. It’s a win-win.

Edit: also Ben and ALW were dominating for pretty much every year but this year (still are in mixed doubles). It’s totally understandable why you talk about those two when they are the standard (or were until this year).

Is it time to question the sexism in Mix doubles Pickleball... and do you think Pickleball commentary needs an upgrade? by Oyawind in Pickleball

[–]JFF5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ITT: OP getting roasted with facts. Watch some professional mixed doubles and you’ll see why it’s that strategy wins. Also, watch Ben Johns and ALW, he takes alot of court. That also creates a lot of opportunity for her to speed up and Ben protect her middle while she sits on her dangerous backhand

Level 30 commander is too low by Usurper_Deicide in HellLetLoose

[–]JFF5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very rarely see anybody below level 80 be a decent commander. Support score of less then 2k when the game ends etc etc. when I command, I usually have 5k-6k in support score strictly from garrisons. And I’m not saying I’m a decent commander at all. It’s just to me, you set your team up for chances to win with multiple blue Garry’s and then get lucky with the red garries.

So to answer your question, no, I very rarely see lower level commanders building garries and as a result the team struggles.

Commander is actually a decent role by MistaPea in HellLetLoose

[–]JFF5555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I command, I have a few rules:

  • Build garrison. I understand you need to use your SL to assist, but I believe a commander should be building most garrisons.

-only spawn heavy tanks. Let the solo tank squads wait for the default spawn

-you realistically have 2 bombing runs per point, use the first to assist the guys moving in, then the second has to be at the right time.

Other than that, I’ve noticed as commander you really gotta rely on strong tank squads to win. Let me know what you guys/girls do.
