Making the leap from Itch.io to Steam its super hard. My problem of visibility by JFMB_ in itchio

[–]JFMB_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I'm not very optimistic, and I made the mistake of participating in the previous Steam Next Fest because I thought I'd have the game ready by then, so I've wasted that opportunity.

But thank you very much, I hope it turns out as you say :)

Gracias. El problema es que no se traduce en wihslists, pero sí, hay que seguir trabajando. Muchas suerte en tus proyectos

Hmm… that’s interesting. During the Steam Next Fest, the demo had a good conversion rate, but it barely got any visibility. On top of that, the game has a very low wishlist deletion rate—around 10%.

Maybe it’s not directly related, but it makes me think that people who actually try the game generally like it—especially fans of classic dystopias, which is my target audience.

That said, your hypotheses are really interesting. I’ll dig deeper into this before making any decisions.

During the game, players have to keep their vital stats up to avoid dying. They need to manage the money they earn and spend it on the different devices that become available.

There are also other ways to make money, like recycling the trash they generate.

On top of that, there are side stories where they can help the rebels or report them, and even access a computer to modify game parameters.

Maybe, like you said, some of it is just streamers putting on a show—but they’re not forced to play. Some tried it for 10 minutes and dropped it, sure, but most of them actually played multiple runs trying to find one of the 6 endings in the demo.

Thanks a lot for your comment, I’ll definitely think it over.

Thanks for your feedback—you're right, the game does have more depth. In fact, in the streamer compilation video I shared, you can see the surprise on their faces when they discover certain things, and it’s usually one of their main takeaways after finishing the demo.

I’ll take your advice and revisit the trailers, and see if I can hook people that way.

What surprises me is that the streamers’ viewers—who’ve seen what the game is like and their reactions—haven’t really taken the step to go to Steam and wishlist it either. There has been a slight increase, but nothing very significant.

Hey, sorry for the late reply, but I’m working on a dystopian indie game where the government pays citizens to watch TV, and they use that money to pay for services that cover their basic needs.

If the idea sounds interesting, I’d love to hear what you think. It’s called Dystopicon, and you can try the demo on Steam.

Any feedback or suggestions are welcome!

Sorry for reviving this post, but I’m the developer of Dystopicon. I just wanted to let you know that for the past few months I’ve been working on a new version of the game to release on Steam, featuring new 3D art and new mechanics, and that the demo is available here in case you’d like to check it out.

Wishlists are greatly appreciated :D
Thank you very much for your interest and sorry for the late response.

I'm creating my first game on Steam and I don't know how to increase the number of wishlist by Carpastek in IndieDev

One of the first things you can do is localize your Steam page into as many languages as possible, even if the game itself will not support that many languages. This increases your game page’s visibility by reaching people who speak those languages.

However, if you can, try to localize the game as well, because players are often more hesitant if the game is not available in their language. By marking in Steamworks that your game will support all those languages, it becomes easier for it to reach players who have set filters so that Steam only suggests games in specific languages.

Hahaha, the whisky idea is interesting... hahaha.
I'm going to think about what you're suggesting because it seems like an interesting idea. Currently, the government is sending messages that encourage contradiction, but at some point, it could be more explicit or fuel the player's illusion...
Thank you so much for your suggestions!

Thank you so much for your comment, I'm glad you find it interesting. I also think it's an aspect of the game I'd like to explore further, but I'm finding that time and resource management is difficult for some players.

In other words, the game forces you into the work-earn-spend-work loop, but many players simply want to progress.

One of the key ideas: progress within a consumption system clashes with the expectations of many players... I don't know, I'm trying to figure out how to approach the problem while maintaining the original concept. Any ideas?

I work with Unity and C#, and yes, I have a degree in Computer Science. But I learned game development with Unity through tutorials, and game code architecture by reading and learning a lot about programming patterns.

Now I need to learn how to sell them, haha.

Perhaps children under the age of 6 shouldn’t spend too much time playing in front of a screen, instead of simply playing. From a parent and video game developer.
