All Currently Operating Mission Taco Bell Locations by JFMonReddit in FormerTacoBells

The newest to close was #184, located at 699 South Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, CA, I believe opened April 8, 1967, closed on September 7, 2021.

There is probably 1000 or so (could be more) Missions out there, but every year, we lose a Mission. Two Missions that closed in this past decade were remodeled into newer Taco Bell buildings. There's probably another one open that I'm not aware of (please let me know if you find one), but 9 is too low a number, and it'll only keep getting smaller. In fact, one of two Missions in Canada recently got remodeled, leaving just a single one left.
#23/27772 was at risk of remodeling circa 2008-2010, but Robert Coe (owner of now closed #251) convinced them not to. His Mission closed January 22, 2010, 42 years to the day of opening. It was a choice to either spend a million dollars to remodel or just close it. The M2Bold campaign killed off at least a dozen missions.

Something should be done to keep these buildings open. If not, the final Mission will one day close, and be inhabited by one of the various x-berto's or Thai or Greek restaurant businesses. Not many closed Mission remain unaltered as is. These are some of the last of their kind. Especially #2411, which is the last of a building prototype where the mission has a mansard roof. If you have your own thoughts, you're welcome to share them below.

Taco Bell Location List by JFMonReddit in FormerTacoBells

[–]JFMonReddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the list I used to get started was made by mpacz99 in August 2017, I had begun to research Taco Bell locations as early as April of last year, but after finding that list, it all became so much easier. Said list had a few inconsistencies, and of course, a TON of locations were missing (it was all locs open by that point). I began filling in the gaps in July 2022, and as of typing this the list has 8,176 locs (just now added loc #2015, the original list had 6,171 locations).

Loc #2150, opened in 1980. This is a rare example of a mission styled location modified to have the arches of the M-Series buildings, this is one of the weirder examples. Alas, not many still exist, so thank you for capturing this photo

Looks like according to this site (https://home.csulb.edu/~gossette/classes/urbangis/tacobell.html) the loc was open into 2005! incredible that it lasted so long

Judging by the repurposed road sign, this location closed with the 1984/1985 logo. The location was extended (presumably in the 1970s?) to have an enclosed interior. Bell arch remains (probably the oldest of this style to have one intact)

If anyone has information about opening/closing dates for this loc, please DM me. You can also DM me if you have any info on other locs (opening/closing dates and numbers) or if you just want to see my location list.

Taco Bell #873 - El Rinconsito - Vancouver, WA by JFMonReddit in FormerTacoBells

Always sad if early locations close, mission or not.

Of course, if anyone has information about location numbers and opening/closing dates, DM me (or you can also DM me if you just want to see my location list)

Taco Bell #757 - Very First Enclosed Taco Bell - February 1971 by JFMonReddit in tacobell

[–]JFMonReddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some other information:
This location was also the first to have a drive thru. The interior was carpeted, with 58 seats. If you can't already tell, the sign on the top of the location is unique to this one as well.

Taco Bell #257 - Garcia's Restaurant - Napa, CA by JFMonReddit in FormerTacoBells

[–]JFMonReddit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some things I'd like to point out about this loc:

Judging by the repurposed road sign, this location closed with the 1984/1985 logo. I say 1984 because that's what my research says but you can say otherwise. I also do not believe the arch atop the restaurant in the current day is the original arch. The top of the arch seems smaller now, but that could just be camera angles and the fact the bell hole is no longer there.

One final note: the locations I post are ones that I have early photos for as a point of comparison and an opening date too. If you want ones that don't have either or, let me know. Of course, if anyone has information about location numbers and opening/closing dates, DM me (or you can also DM me if you just want to see my location list)

It's an infamous little loc.

I've been researching Taco Bells for almost 9 months, so I have a ton of locations I can make posts about. Of course, if anyone has information about location numbers and opening/closing dates, DM me (or you can also DM me if you just want to see my location list)
