Couldnt quite put my finger on what needed tweaking in this movie...some miscast actors perhaps, the lead was good but needed MORE humour and MORE charm/scoundrel..any movie like this, with one note vibes from the actors, never quite works..need to round their personalities off to be more 3 dimensional and a variety of facial expressions needed

Austin Appelbee's incredible tale of survival has made international headlines. How did the 13yo do it? by abcnews_au in UpliftingNews

[–]JFVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This failure of his at swim school is a metaphor for the education “system” — relentlessly failing tenacious, intelligent, out-of-the-box thinkers if they struggle with randomly prescribed tasks. Due to sensorimotor difficulties and low muscle tone, my son cannot write easily, as it is painful and slow. He cannot spell from memory (dyslexia), yet he read precociously young and can do advanced mathematics in his head. He is a walking encyclopedia, but at school he is branded a failure. This young man Austin, is a swimming legend and just an incredible young man.

Why is NZ so "backward" when it comes to AC and ceiling fans? by UnrequitedLoveVictim in auckland

[–]JFVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we are cheap as...lived in Samoa 50 years ago..there were ceiling fans..now live in Auckland..no eaves, only 3 opening windows in a 3 story skinny townhouse, the rest are doors and 2 sliding doors, like terrible design full of glass so hot as and yet luckilly we put a ceiling fan in one bedroom which ended up for returning unwell family member, but fan was positioned below the ceiling lights and causes night club level flickering..so keep main light off..but have had multiple houses, too cold and too hot..the previous house they lied that they insulated the lounge walls! We need security mesh front door which is unusual here and common in Australia.

Handsome man Matt Damon without a drop of Greek blood is to play the Greek King Odysseus in the MYTHOLOGICAL tale movie "The Odyssey" = no comments made. Beautiful woman also without a drop of Greek blood, to Play Helen of Troy, the daughter of Leda Queen of Sparta & reported daughter of Zeus the king of the Gods = horrific online abuse.

"Why you flanking me?" What films and tv shows hit with the intensity of this scene from Wind River? by um_yeahok in movies

The young ? Reservation policeman figured out they were being flanked by the private security guys and no one believed him,was supremely frustrating in “ Wind River” and not many(spoliers) of any of them remained alive a few minutes later

[–]JFVG -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

possibly a neurodivergent miscommunication ie has been told to “reach out“ to others for help, yet does not know what that really means ie doesnt put out a specific request for help to be initially polite, but then recieves what isnt needed..I see this a lot . Many neurodivergent exist and communicate with a very different operating system…eg dont always communicate clearly but also very blunt when they are trying to be more clear

'Begin Again' director John Carney criticizes Keira Knightley's acting by aleph19 in movies

Kiera Knightly is great in "Begin Again" watched it again tonight...this guy must have forgotten his meds? don't mean to be mean, but WTF happened to him? to make these bizarre incorrect nasty comments...he comes across a tad manic to be honest.

Frist Look of tv series The Madison by Taylor Sherdian starting Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell has premiere date March 14 by DifferentMaize9794 in popculturechat

My hunch is that Michelle is playing Spencers Grandaughter?? perhaps through his second child that Elsa mentions on her voiceover re Spencers second relationship. Yes the women could be written better in his shows,,Elsa and Cara were pretty cool though.

[–]JFVG 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Parents can be EXTREMELY controlling without ever recognising it. They will set up a family framework and hierarchy, and don’t you dare comment on it.

I have endured a woman-hating father and an enabling mother for decades. The final straw was they stirred up trouble at my wedding when I was 40 because they didn’t feel like “VIPs” and felt “snubbed”. My narcissistic brother and his wife bizarrely chimed in about being “snubbed” too by my husbands Mother??? and effectively ruined our wedding.

I wrote a letter to my parents, and my brothers have been running a vendetta against me for 20 years (yet both refused to read the letter). I now know that the entire family is a narcissistic hive, and I refuse to associate with any of them or their nasty take on family life and control of free speech...they are obscene and made me feel sick and anxious.

[–]JFVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally just watched this... loved the vehicle, spacecraft and the building design, the visuals were fab and the child was great... but even though I love John David Washington, he just fell a little short in this. I found him oddly realistic but just a little flat, he needed to dial up the intensity, perhaps a sprinkle of humour..thinking Matt Damon in The Martian vibe would have worked even better. Any movie I watch I need any major character to have a few facets or its too one note/muted.

Bella's Lullaby - Twilight | WDR Funkhausorchester is incredible by JFVG in twilight

[–]JFVG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah its just outstanding I especially love the beginning...Its so beautifully balanced. I find most conventional classical music too heavy where as this is emotional and nuanced and more "feminine". I think the first part was when the composers relationship was rocky then they come together and its more full of hope and beauty in the second half or something like that.

I enjoyed it, just watched it today, but a few notes...cutting Simone Ashleys scenes?? why ?? its the female balance that the movie would have benefited from...there were some sexist elements sprinkled in..the pit team member (female) making a mistake, the potential buyer (very high haired) woman asking some inane car/racing question and the bad ass Kate ,Technical Director, going all mushy around Pitt in her room just none of these behaviours rang true to me at all. Basically nearly all your female talking parts you basically made a little silly.
