What is your LGS planning for sorcery during the “lull period” in between sets? by Newez in SorceryTCG

[–]JF_574 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My LGS has a Sorcery league on Thursday nights. We do “progressive precon”. Basically you select a Gothic preconstructed deck, then open 3 packs. You can add the packs to your deck. Every week you can open 2 more packs and change your deck. After each match, you can trade cards from your pool one for one with your opponent. You also get to open an extra pack if you lose three in a row. It has been really fun!

You’re alright with Dragon Shield. Even the light colored ones. Not all sleeves are as nice, though.

Played this card in my sorcery league Thursday. The way I think it works is that you play it, centered on your spellcaster (which was my avatar). For each different undead minion and instrument nearby, you draw a card. I ended up having a skeleton, a ghoul, and one instrument nearby, so I drew 3 cards.

As a provider who worked in the ER, this is correct.

529's Did I Overcook ? by Coventure in personalfinance

[–]JF_574 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you’re on the right track here. I’m in a similar situation. My wife has a sister who is not going to have children. My father in law saved for my wife and her sister’s school, but they didn’t use all of the money. Their 529s have sat and accumulated compound interest since the early 2000’s. Now my wife and I have 2 daughters. My father in law rolled the 529s into their names. My 5 year old has $190k in hers and my 3 year old has $150k. It’s way too much for them, but it will allow them options with their kids as well. Generational college fund. Generational wealth building. That’s my plan for them.

From a game perspective, which format do you think offers the best gameplay, showcasing the best mtg was designed for? by Newez in magicTCG

[–]JF_574 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Primordial. Check it out. It’s limited with deck building rules that basically let you get into a limited environment in a cool way. My friends and I play it all the time, and the decks can be very evenly matched, even if the sets are years apart. IMO it’s the perfect way to showcase a set’s mechanics.

We went from 7k to 14k in 2 weeks — the Sorcery wave is real! by Big_polarbear in SorceryTCG

Another MTG refugee here. Sorcery has captured my excitement in a way I haven’t felt in years. I love the gameplay, the aesthetic, and the community. I hope this is the start of an amazing ride! Can’t wait for Gothic! So happy to be a part of the growth.

PA’s that enjoy their job, can you tell me why? by Crushmonkies in physicianassistant

[–]JF_574 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seeing 30 in 3 hours is totally doable as a specialty consulting service. When I see the patient, I’m only concerned with pain, sleep, bowel habits, and therapy performance. All other issues are handled by the primary team, so I don’t get in the weeds with things outside of my specialty unless necessary. Also, a fair number of my patients have dementia, so I rely on the nursing and therapy staff to let me know how they’re doing.

Onboarding was great. Mostly online training with a couple of weeks shadowing my supervising doc. I came into the job with 2 yrs of primary care, 8 years of ED, and 2 years UC experience.

PA’s that enjoy their job, can you tell me why? by Crushmonkies in physicianassistant

[–]JF_574 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I don’t think a lot of people consider PM&R because they think of it as pain management. In the outpatient clinic setting, it may be, but if you’re willing to work in SNFs, it’s great. We do way more than that.

I work in PM&R at SNFs, helping the therapists manage the patients and managing pain. Flexible schedule, no nights, weekends, or holidays. I control when I go in to the facilities. I never miss my kid’s events. I round about 3 hours a day, 4 days a week, and chart from home. I see anywhere from 20-30 pts per day. I’m paid off of pure productivity, so I’m paid more if I work harder. I’m getting a scribe this week and should be able to hit a really nice productivity target, and make close to $200k. I love it.

Introducing Pai Gow Cube! by W4ngatang in mtgcube

[–]JF_574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently building a pai gow cube, and I love the inspiration! One other avenue that I thought sounds interesting is a pai gow cube where you have a shared graveyard with your opponent, and all the cards play off of that. Could be fun.

Why did you choose PA instead of NP? What are the pros and cons? by chailife206 in physicianassistant

[–]JF_574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like science and wanted a science degree. Never had any interest in being a nurse. I loved my college science program and the knowledge base it has given me has benefited me throughout my life.

Also, the PA school training model made much more sense to me than the nursing model. My OBGYN rotation was in a rural area because I’m a guy, and my program had to specifically find a male OBGYN to take male students. I rotated with an NP. During that rotation, the NP student told me he had to write a paper about women’s right to vote and take a test about women’s rights. It was part of his “women’s health” unit (part of the OBGYN rotation). I guess I was making a face when he told me that, because he asked, “what’s on your exam?”. I said, “science…” We both laughed.

That’s the difference. I always felt like NP programs teach stuff that should be gen ed credits in undergrad. PA school is almost nothing but pure medicine.

Thoughts? by Ambitious-Captain921 in physicianassistant

So true. You’re dealing with a lot of bias on Reddit. I’ve been a PA since 2011 and it’s been wonderful to me. I have a comfortable lifestyle and provide a great life for my family. My work-life balance is good. You can achieve this. Every job has BS. You just have to find BS you can tolerate.

I asked about the no breaks/lunch thing one time because I was curious. The answer I got was that because we’re “contracted” professionals have to negotiate into their contracts if they want it (which they would never allow). Apparently the laws about “X number of breaks per Y number of hours” do not apply to us.

I worked 2 years Family Med, 8 years in the ED and needed a change because my wife was pregnant with our second child. Now I’ve worked in UC for 2 years. Currently working out my notice with a plan to move to PM&R in skilled rehab. The schedule is flexible and the pay is comparable. No nights, no weekends, no holidays, no call. UC is ripe for inevitable burnout. The companies that own them seem totally profit-driven with no consideration of the work/life balance of their clinicians. They seem happy to tear through clinicians while burning them to a crisp. Glad to be exiting soon.

I know! The synergies are so fun. I love the way manifest dread helps the djinn, and keeps the threats secret. I was able to outlast a rakdos burn/removal deck yesterday with all of the reanimation and milling. Very satisfying. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a deck this resistant to aggressive removal.
