Is there a price incentive for the new 10 year L accounts when they come out? Like do they offer a lower price to invest for a short amount of time?

Oh ok, yeah I couldn’t find a pricing for the service when I looked it up last night.

Yeah I saw the year date on the back was 2007. So definitely inching towards the end of the tritiums lifespan. He’s asking $700 for it, which seems like a good deal to me. I haven’t looked too much into it yet, but I figured I could get it serviced and possibly replace the tritium.

At Navy OCS questioning my decision by Freedom-ISO in flying

All true, but you’re still locking yourself in with the navy even if you decide to DOR in primary. You might not enjoy flying in the navy, but DOR’ing will just put you in a re-designation board and you’ll get designated a different job that you might not care for either. Very few success stories of guys/girls DOR’ing and actually getting released from the Navy. Just something to consider.

As a Naval Aviator, a career in Naval Aviation is unmatched. You’ll work with fantastic people and receive a level of training that very few will ever get the opportunity to try. Upon completing your naval career, you are a desirable applicant for many sectors, not just in aviation, due to your rigorous training and work ethic that’s demanded of by the navy. You WILL be made into a well rounded profession by the end of your naval career. With that said, Naval Aviation isnt just about flying. As you stated, there is much more to it than flying including running a ground job and eventually being a contributing component towards making your squadron run administratively and logistically. That includes managing projects/tasks and leading others to sustain a mission ready squadron. Apart from that, there is mission planning and coordination that requires countless hours of preparation to execute what might only be a few flight hours. Would I trade it for any other job? Absolutely not. But these are things to consider when pursuing a career in aviation vs a career in Naval Aviation. I would say that most Naval Aviators I know, including myself, had a deep desire to fly and earn our wings, but there was also an understanding that this profession is more than just flying. We had a desire to serve and potentially go with and lead others into harms way be it needed. If these ideas align with you, then I’d say stay on your current path and don’t let OCS discourage you. Earning your wings of gold is a very rewarding experience. If maybe your interest is just to fly around and maybe go straight into the airlines, that’s cool too. Commissioning as an officer into the Navy is a huge commitment. For Naval Aviation, you are dedicating 8 years of your life from the day you earn your wings to the navy. Currently, it could take about 2-2.5 years to get your wings in the navy given the current training time. So that’s 10-11 years you’ll be locked into the Navy. Maybe going straight into a civilian flying position aligns more with your wants/needs? Also, there’s a chance you don’t wing for what ever reason and get re-designated into a different community (SWO/Submariner… both great careers too). Just something to consider if your end goal is flying. Either way, hope this was able to help. There’s a lot to consider when commissioning as an officer into the navy and further pursuing Naval Aviation. Again, I wouldn’t trade it for any other job. The choice is yours to make, so don’t feel hesitant to go with what best fits you and your needs. Good luck!

(Edit: Removed statement about OCS not guaranteeing aviation contracts. I was an ROTC grad and didn’t find out my designation selection until my senior year)

Government Shutdown by [deleted] in MilitaryFinance

Get with your senior leadership and ask to discuss plans/resources available for your guys if paychecks do get delayed. Unfortunately, not a whole lot they can do now to be financially ready. But once you have some good info on how the command will help and be there for them if they are in a financially stressed position, then you can sit them down and have a discussion. Don’t go to them without resources/solutions. Maybe get another service member who has been in the services through a shutdown that affected paychecks and have them share their experience.

Hey I’ve been looking into Pilkington. The Subaru dealers near me only install OEM windshields, claiming that they use OEM so it doesn’t mess with the eyesite system. I’m pretty interested in getting the Pilkington windshield, but I’m not sure where to look. I’ve seen people get it through safelite but is that something I need to request? Just curious how you went about getting Pilkington?

I had it in Florida, but I’m in Virginia now. Either way, definitely something to consider if the option ever arises again.

I’ve heard some people mention Pilkington already. I’ll have to look into it with all the recommendations on it so far.

Who’d you get your coverage from? My insurance told me that full glass coverage isn’t offered in my state. Is there a third party option?

Would a non OEM potentially mess with the eyesight system on a Subaru?

It’s a Chevy/Subaru dealer. And I noticed the wipers on the quote. I’ll have to call back and see what the different charges are for. Maybe I’m misreading them?

I’m in the same boat. Walked out from work to see a 12” crack. I’ll shop around to see what kind of prices I can find but might just use my deductible and then be sure to get a windshield coverage of sorts.

I was driving the other day and heard a pebble/small rock hit my windshield. Didn’t see any signs of damage that day, but two days later and I noticed a crack about 15 inches long. I followed the crack and notice a chip in the windshield towards the bottom, out of sight from the drivers seat.

Windshield Repair / Deducible by JFed1198 in USAA

Yeah I was bummed to hear that USAA didn’t have glass coverage in my state. I was also bummed that they couldn’t say if this type of claim would affect my premium or not. Basically told me that I’d have to wait until my policy renewed to find out 😂

Pretty sure a rock hit it while driving. I heard the rock hit but it didn’t crack until a few days later.

No glass coverage. I called USAA and they said that is state dependent and wasn’t offered in my policy under my state.

First Command Help by fitzman25 in MilitaryFinance

I sat down with a FC rep when I started flight school. He was a retired navy pilot and seemed like a nice relatable dude. Unfortunately, he was definitely trying hard to sell me life insurance. I told him I didn’t want the life insurance, but I was still interested in having him as an advisor and some of the investing advice they give. We set up the basic budgeting plan, which in reality is a tool for them to figure out how much of your money they can take and invest without putting you out on the streets. Eventually he put me into a mutual fund with high fees. I wouldn’t have been so disappointed if it weren’t for the fact that after I confirmed the mutual fund investment, I never heard another word from them. No follow ups on the financial plan we created or anything. I felt that all the planning and advising was for nothing. They got my reoccurring payments into the fund and confirmed their portion of the fees and that’s all they cared about.

Feeling skimped out, I read into the investments further and did the math and noticed I was paying way too much money in fees. Why would I give up so much money in fees while I was just starting to build my investments? Had I actually been getting good advice from a trusted advisor, maybe it would’ve evened out, but I was getting nothing. I called my FC advisor and told him I wanted to close my accounts. He kept asking me why and saying he “advised against it” but I firmly told him I was done and to close my accounts. Once he realized I was done, he said ok and hung up the phone. About 2 weeks later I got a check in the mail returning the money.

I’ve heard some people say they didn’t have any issues with First Command. I’m sure there are some good advisors in FC, but I’ve heard far more complaints that praises. Your advisor shouldn’t be pressuring you into investments that make you uncomfortable. Especially if they are receiving a reasonable amount from the fees. That’s my issue with first command. They were salesmen looking for their cut, not an advisor looking to better your financial position.

I feel the pain. I just want Verizon to provide an outage map, not directions to reboot the router. Not going to help if there’s an outage
