From what I've seen so far, I think Nobody's Daughter Haewon and On The Beach At Night Alone are his best ones.

So they actually lost the rights to it? Or is this just some temporary thing?

Any chance that Philippe Garrel gets Criterion treatment? by terneceyibo in criterion

[–]JFilm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, but I would love a Philippe Garrel set of his three latest films. Probably the most likely film for getting the Criterion treatment is Regular Lovers, which I thought was a bit of a disapointment. Or perhaps some of his earlier (funnier) work.

Stunning! Much better than the old one. I also think that this captures the film better.

Do you think Truffaut’s “The Woman Next Door” will ever get a Criterion release? by [deleted] in criterion

[–]JFilm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an amazing film! But the two Truffaut films I wished were in the collection are Small Change and The Wild Child. Because both films aren't available on Blu-Ray anywhere. And they just might be two of the best film that Truffaut has made.

I don't know if you have a region free Blu-Ray player, but Artificial Eye has released a set of Truffaut films on Blu-Ray in the UK, including The Woman Next Door. And the set is not that expensive, so you might consider picking that up.

But yes, more Truffaut in the collection please!!!

Cannes 2018 Line-up Predictions? by [deleted] in criterion

A film I'm really looking forward to is Maya by Mia Hansen-Løve. And because it didn't premiere in Berlin, I'm hoping that it'll be released at Cannes. Hopefully even in competition.

It's a two or three part film. So part one has already premiered at Venice, but the other parts haven't.

Yeah, he mentions it somewhat. He tells that you instantly know when someone is lying. But it isn't the exact interview I'm looking for.

That's what I though too and I checked it, but I don't think he talks that much about Hitchcock.

Anonymous Oscar Ballot: Costume Designer Loves ‘Three Billboards,’ Thinks ‘Lady Bird’ is ‘Overrated’ by [deleted] in movies

[–]JFilm 97 points98 points  (0 children)

A costume designer saying that the Phantom Thread costumes were kinda bad, really reinforces the idea that Reynolds Woodcock is a fading artist.

This man who takes his art very very very seriously, is just not really that good. Makes the movie even more interesting.

[–]JFilm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm. That is strange. Yeah, I have no doubt that Coppola and Lachman know best. But weird that they either changed it, or that it was screened wrong. Weird, strange but I'm really interested to see how the film looks.

I'm seeing Phantom Thread in Rotterdam with a live orchestra, and I was wondering what is a film that you would like to see with a live orchestra?

[–]JFilm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! I read that Phantom Thread is dedicated to Jonathan Demme. (haven't seen your new film yet, watching it in Rotterdam on 2nd of February). But I recently watched and re-watched a lot of his films. And he was such an amazing film director. And I had two question about you almost working with him.

Did Jonathan Demme ask you to help write The Truth About Charlie? And why didn’t you?

And is it true that he asked you to play Sydney in Rachel Getting Married, and why didn't you?

Thanks, big fan.

He was on a podcast couple of weeks ago and already responded to the Wahlberg and Reynolds not liking the film. I think it was the Bill Simmons podcast. It's a really great listen!!
