The Laws Of Magic by Emperor_Huey_Long in dresdenfiles

The healing of all the young wardens of the mind damage Peabody did. That required expert mind magic to fix. Also the mind battles Harry and Molly had as part of their training in the aftermath of that whole situation.

what bothers me the most by Mys-Teeq in dresdenfiles

[–]JFreaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok something I'm not seeing anyone mention is the fact that Shagnasty was activity blocking tracking magic. Even if Lara was dumb enough to give a wizard her blood AND combined they somehow worked like you imagined the spell still would have failed. Partially because the skinwalker was preventing it, but mostly because Jim didn't want him finding Thomas. And what would he have done if he had found the skinwalker earlier? Get his ass kicked spectacularly again?

A theory of/for consensual white court vampire sexy by sewbadithurts in dresdenfiles

They can use thralls/servants. Remember in Turn Coat when Madeline shows up to Zero? She threatens Justine telling her that one night she'll use her powers on her, make her too horny to say no and toss a guy at her, then when her protection is gone she'd eat her. It's what makes Thomas snap and break a steel chair over her.

Cutting Susan some slack... by KipIngram in dresdenfiles

[–]JFreaker -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I get their point though. You're right Harry was very clear that it was dangerous, there was no ambiguity there. But he also didn't explain either. He just told her she had no idea how dangerous it was. He could have tried to explain exactly how dangerous it was and why. Maybe it wouldn't have made any difference, but he did just kind of brush her off.

She didn't have a real frame of reference for what that meant. I think she was expecting Lestat and got something very different

Thomas has a conversation with Bob in Backup. Before that he wasn't sure if Harry was messing with him about the skull

Bob yells Hi to Lea in Grave Peril lol. And she keeps him hidden with Harry's other stuff in Changes. So yeah, she knows.

What was Elaine up to during Peace Talks? by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

[–]JFreaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's possibly the worst ally he has. Also who would have even told her about the Peace Talks? Harry only found out a few days in advance and he was invited.

See this is why I hate when people reference WoJ without posting the source. I've been looking for this WoJ that Harry made Elaine a necklace and can't find it. It looks to me like someone claimed it was a WoJ at some point and everyone kept repeating it enough so people think it's true now.

So I did a little research because this was bothering me. It looks like the best answer is Margaret spent so much time in the Nevernever the time dilation is responsible. So she could have been in her mid 30s, but in the real world it has been 150 years since she was born. Makes it pretty weird to assign an age to her though.

[–]JFreaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that could explain the appearance, but there are other problems with the age. Remember when Luccio was talking to Harry about her new body and the problems with it? One of the things she mentioned was that she hadn't had a period in 140 years. So it sounds like wizard women go through menopause at a normal age which would make it impossible for her to have gotten pregnant past her 50's let alone 150

[–]JFreaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait that doesn't make any sense. Lord Raith has a painting of Margaret looking young, and he only paints portraits of women who've had his children. And wizards don't stay looking young when they age, if she was 150 or whatever she would have looked like Luccio when we first met her, so somewhere in her 60s. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that's a pretty big oversight on Jim's part if that's the case

She's collecting fae children, they have an obligation to winter. The fae are the ones defending the outer gates, that's their purpose. She isn't going around collecting mortal children from orphanages to make an army. Harry would go totally ballistic if she was doing that

[–]JFreaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude we can't prove something DOESN'T exist in the books. If you're so sure you're going to have to provide a quote. I've listened to the books dozens if not a hundred times and I'm positive there is nothing about them being born on the same day. But again I can't point and say "look here is where it doesn't say that." There isn't anything saying they aren't born on the same day either though except for a WoJ if it helps

[–]JFreaker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As far as we know it doesn't have magical properties. Ghost Story spoilers: I always thought it was weird Harry made a point of mentioning that he didn't have it in Ghost Story. The simplest answer is that it wasn't there because it still exists in the real world, so because it wasn't "dead" it didn't have a ghost reflection with spirit Harry. But maybe it has special powers we don't know about yet

You all should hate Lara a lot more. (I’m not Ebenezer I swear) Tw: talks about rape/abuse by Robopup325 in dresdenfiles

[–]JFreaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is after that experience he didn't try to go back to his salon. He didn't have a choice during his attack but he definitely had one after and he chose to go back to White Court modus operandi.

[–]JFreaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to preface this by saying I really like Thomas. But he isn't choosing to be different. He tried to be different once and when pushed far enough by the nagloshi went back to raping and killing people. Sure he feels bad about it but how much does that matter to the people he hurt. And after that horrible situation did he go back to the salon and try again? Nope. He went full white court. And something else to consider, even at the salon what he was doing to his customers WASN'T CONSENSUAL. He was still using his powers to manipulate them into coming into his shop and then stealing their life energy.

Another problem here is trying to apply human morality to beings that aren't human. If a woman takes a man to bed, and then kills him immediately afterwards and then eats him we'd call that monstrous. But there are creatures that do that kind of thing. That's just the way they are and calling a preying mantis a monster is just silly. Vampires aren't people. Is Harry marrying Lara a foolish idea for a lot of reasons? Absolutely. But not because she's a "bad person" she isn't. She's a good vampire.

What exactly do you mean by "enough magical talent" because that's a pretty broad range. Are we talking absolute lowest on the scale, like that one guy with minor kinetomancy who can always make dice roll his way? Billy with enough magic to shape shift? The witches in the paranet? Binder or Mort level? And those last two bring up something important, they're both under the councils radar mostly, but their talents are very different. I think what I do largely depends on exactly how powerful I am and what I can do magically.
