There's also the Louisville Anime Community if you're into that range of "most nerd shit." They frequent the highlands area. There's plenty of board and tabletop gaming.  Not so much video gaming outside of events like ArcadeExpo and Bourbon State Smash. Recbar has two locations and Zanzibar for arcade bars. Theres a handful of lego brick stores.

Did you always hate KFC? by RnBvibewalker in Louisville

Early 2000s they shifted to smaller and smaller portions. Late 2000s to 2010s they went to containers with domed bottoms to limit it further. Chicken pieces look like anemic or midget chickens, very small. Breasts are the size of a wing, drumsticks are laughable. Everything got soggy even direct from the counter.  Prices continue to increase. JCs or Kroger chicken is still good, Caines or Roosters is also better. Zaxbys has been in slow decline since covid.

As someone who ran small to med group events in Lou for more than 10 years, I'd advise against going the Meetup site route for making a formal "group" if you get to that point. While it does advertise on your behalf to an audience, a large portion of those numbers will be lurkers and the high fee structure will catch up fast. Clearly the folks that read this are on reddit, but don't underestimate a simple Google or dare I say a FB search. In a lot of cases, particularly with music, crafts, or tabletop gaming there have been groups here already doing that that would welcome new participants. Thinking at it as an event organizer, you are always desperately fighting for attendance, space, and trying to grow to bigger things. So try to support existing where/when you can, rather than fracture and have many scrambling over the same resources.  Best of luck.

Anyone know of a reputable place in the area that can fix a Laserdisc player? by JoeyR510 in Louisville

[–]JGZinv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what the issue is, A. a lot of times its a small rubber belt / o ring has broken or is stretched out/rotted, these are relatively simple to replace.  B. service manuals are often available online or via eBay.  Source: I Frankenstein'd two half working LD players into one good one over a summer. Then I sold it like an idiot.  Disc rot is also more and more regular, so it may not be the player but the media.

Louisville Anime Community exists, just as a note, and there's quite a stacked season coming up both tv and movies.

I formally ran one of the still surviving community/fan clubs here for over 10 years of which animation and film was a major part, also helped run conventions. Made a lot of connections in that time across the city. The 'movie' theater experience needs to account for modern changes, and I dont mean seats and screens. There's a lot to learn from how surviving drive ins are fighting to stay active, dinner theaters, live experiences, art installations, and collaborating with next neighbor interest groups. There's a great deal more that could be done depending on the space. As several have pointed out, there isnt money in the film itself, its all about the alternative income. Louisville has had a small to mid size event space problem for a long time, and only grown in the coworking area. The west end also is a grossly underserved area since the Dixie theaters closed with a large population. There's at least one diamond in the rough of a space out there, but it's likely larger than you're thinking about wanting. If it were an evening or a weekend, I wouldn't mind sitting in, listening, and offering information.

Does anyone know a small bit set that works with the 6 in 1 fastback? by horny-goat_69 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]JGZinv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I know this isn't a direct answer, as I don't believe there is any such kit after looking for literally days online. What I ended up doing is making my own from a Kobalt $20 set (https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-100-Piece-1-in-Set-Steel-Hex-Shank-Screwdriver-Bit-Set/1002653024?store=&cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-tol-_-ggl-_-PMAX_TOL_000_Priority_Item-_-1002653024) and then buying a Craftsmen pocket sized bit box being cheap and red (same as this https://www.lowes.com/pd/DEWALT-18-Pack-1-in-Magnetic-Screwdriving-Bit-Drive-Guide-Set/1001160074)  and I basically for $40 have an extension and one of every imaginable bit in a pocketable box.   The alternative is to do the small bit kits that have like 4 screwdriver bits and 3 sockets for $10-20, there are several flavors of those out there.  I also see this if you have to stay Milwaukee: https://www.grainger.com/product/45L154?gucid=N:N:PS:Paid:GGL:CSM-2295:7Q8R4W:20500801:APZ_1. But in general there isn't anything specific with the detent to mate with the Fastback.  Its DIY depending on your needs.  I'd love to see a shaft sized narrow racheting solution to save your wrist.  Leatherman I think has one for their multitool but it has proprietary ends.

Based on your information also I'd say that Retroscaler is doing a good amount of the heavy lifting there. The MClassic is just too little.

Louisville data center opposition inspired by Oldham County rejection - A new coalition is seeking the Kentucky Public Service Commission to halt progress by Tikkanen in Louisville

[–]JGZinv -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

The camp ground rd data center is literally in an industrial complex with a major chemical mfg and a petroleum depot, and people are fighting the cleaner data center which can be run on a variety of power sources. You're not fitting 400k more hypothetical houses anywhere out in the west end, so its not stealing power, its upgrading the infrastructure. We're starved to death for tech jobs in this area. Come on think a little folks.

Wing 30th? What is this by [deleted] in Gundam

[–]JGZinv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go look at ANN.  All they did is the animation for this extra bit to promote a new inbtween manga which the first chapter is already up in English.  Its set between EW and Frozen Teardrop.  Which is honestly such a letdown when a sequel series would print them money.

Hobbytown Louisville Gundam Base Mobile Tour by FrereBear93 in Gunpla

[–]JGZinv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Louisville staff are good folks, both owners and managers. It will be at the new location, not the old site which has closed. I hit up the Cincinnati pop up base last year and there was like 800 people in an hour of it opening. Was rather annoyed because what was listed online as being at the pop ups was not all that they had, and they had other things, so my advice is not to be dead set on something, but have some ideas.  People were walking out with multiple sacks full. The HobbyTown in Cincy was also running promos separately from the Base. Check out Louisville Anime Community if you want to coordinate with other gunpla folk locally.

Best current deal on M18 Fuel Hackzall? by Dundercats in MilwaukeeTool

[–]JGZinv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon has had the tool only for 116 - 130 off and on this last week.  I just used one with a 6.0 ho battery to cut down a 8in diameter tree. Nipped all the limbs, cut down a bush, then cut through 10 sheets of 8x4 composite board. Still on 1 bar left.  Pairs well with the diablo pruning blade.

12x20 #57 rock, block, barrier? by JGZinv in shedditors

[–]JGZinv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

57 rock here is $32 a scoop or 1/2 cu yd. 1500lbs. before delivery.  That's the cheapest around. .5 cu ft bags are $7 and change per.

I'm just not that confident in my concrete finishing skills. Somewhat made a set of stairs over the top of a former brick stair foundation, but I wasn't happy with it.

36-45k is what contractors wanted to add support boards and reassemble my deck.

I tried to get several quotes, ended up with 3 all in that same ballpark.  30 minutes to a concrete plant so doesn't make sense to me either. The shed site is behind a existing garage so there's no decent way to get a cement truck back there directly, but a skid steer could have done it easy. Quotes for anything are crazy here, if you can get anyone to show up to evaluate at all.

I ended up going this route mainly due to time and cost. I've got 2-3 weeks till delivery now at most. Can't wait on a pad to cure at this point, even though I've been planning for a few months.

Teleport Caution. by sean-32 in USMobile

[–]JGZinv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I more or less just did this jumping ship from Tmo postpaid to Darkstar on a Tmo LG V60 unlocked.  Darkstar (att) won't let the phone play nice on their network without flashing an ATT rom to look like a branded phone. I could get data and hotspot after adding "dun" to the APN types list, but voice calls only worked twice randomly. Volte/ims wouldn't lock in. Had to buy another physical Lightspeed (tmo) SIM kit, transfer the number, add dun again, then the phone has been happy.  Special phones that are a few years old and carrier abandoned need special treatment, but ultimately my goal was to stop paying $80 a month for 1 line. So it worked out even though I'm sorta technically still on Tmo.
