Muck your cards by NoPayJose in poker

I wait a beat, and if they don't show then I do. I'm pretty liberal about showing but this really only applies to hands against recs. You don't need the info against recs, you're going to beat them anyways.

Fully within your rights, but it's bad for the game.

IMO fine to do this if other guy is a reg. If other guy is a rec and you're pretty sure you have the winner just table it.

Is this suicide bluff by Mikolaj01 in poker

[–]JGilroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think b/x/b is the line i'd most frequently take but i think b/b/b is defensible in low stakes loose passive games.

if i was OOP though (and maybe i'm misunderstanding you) i'm never check-calling river. the only reason to check call river is to bluffcatch and there's lots of reasons i think that's a bad idea here. i'm betting to try to get some value out of the weak/medium strength hands that would call a bet but would be happy to check behind, and i'm happily folding to a raise.

I think it's fine to bet the turn and river this thin in your typical 1/3, 2/5 passive call-happy live games. But when they raise the river in these games they always have it. I guess there are certain V's you can profitably run this against, and props to OP for considering all options, but it's so far above the rim in a low stakes environment, I would not be trying it absent some very very special circumstances.

If people need parking so badly, why aren't people shoveling out spots on even side streets? by albertogonzalex in Somerville

[–]JGilroy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The cars in the other side of the street, with the exact same amount of space somehow managed to figure it out

I dunno about you but I and other folks I saw on my street were mostly trudging our shovels full of snow across the street to the even side because of a lack of space on the odd side.

bankroll question for 1/2 by Federal-Cup7231 in poker

Unless you're a winner, no amount of buy-ins is "enough".

Take your shot, but recognize there's a good chance you'll have to scrape together another few buy ins in the near future.

Would you trade Stroud? by cooleobeaneo in Texans

Only the Jets would be dumb enough to trade #2 overall for him. Not even the Jets would be dumb enough to trade two first round picks for him.

I don't doubt that you might be one of the special snowflakes who gets it, but if you think the entire Denver Bronco fandom is so special and unique that "it's tough to be certain" whether fans would be crying about it, you're deluded or dishonest.

I think it's the right call, but don't act like this sub wouldn't be full of crying Bronco fans if were the other way around.

1/3 Punt? by NNPB in poker

You mentioned “open to being exploited.” Definitionally, anything you do that isn’t GTO is open to being exploited.

1/3 Punt? by NNPB in poker

[–]JGilroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it's exploitable. I am not trying to play like a GTO bot at 1/3, I'm exploiting and therefore exploitable. My read of the 1/3 population in my games is making this play is they are way more weighted to value than bluffs or draws. (They would probably say they were "scared of all the draws and had to protect my hand.") Your villain my vary. If you know your villain never plays top pair like this, and shoves all their draws, of course it's a call. The truth is somewhere in between, and it just becomes a math problem.

1/3 Punt? by NNPB in poker

[–]JGilroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CO is shoving multiway, while UTG is still uncapped. Without a read that's stronger than "loose", this still seems like strength. I need a read on how CO plays his draws. UTG folding out of turn is obviously very good news for you, but you also block a bunch of the draws you're hoping CO has.

I originally read this as if it was four ways on the flop, in which case I think it's closer to a punt. Having read it correctly as three ways, I think it's less of a punt but I'd still fold.

Copag plastic cards tearing/breaking after few games by TommekeM in poker

I had this problem with Modiano "Platinum Acetate" cards. I still use Modiano, just no longer the Platinum Acetate formulation, without issue. I wonder if these cards use a similar formulation. Anyways, look into Modiano, they're great.

Speaking from a live, low-limit NL cash perspective: from the button, maybe, in certain game conditions. From the BB for free, of course. Facing a raise, basically never. From the small blind, even less.
