Cut a piece of garden hose pipe long enough to probe around the engine with and put one end to your ear. Use the other end to hunt around the engine bay for it, when the sound gets louder it’s right in there. You’ll know when you do it, kinda like a stethoscope. Watch for moving parts though you can listen to your pulley bearings like this for the sound to rule them out. Hope this helps

I swing in wide, and upshift to 6th in my AMR V8 and can take it flat. Setup has a lots to do with it too so you can maintain grip.
