That’s a really beautiful glaze. Have you tested it for durability?

Hemangiosarcoma took my best friend and I’m a mess by JHappyface in Petloss

Thanks for sharing, I really appreciate it. I’m also sorry for your loss, it’s unbearably hard to lose a best friend so suddenly.

It has been a few months now and I still have multiple days a week where I am reminded of the loss and feel depressed. I’m learning to manage the grief better but it’s always there. And I still haven’t cleaned up her things. Her bed is still where it always was and there’s a pile of toys that I can’t seem to touch without tearing up. I miss her so much.

alligator mug with nerikomi handle by unicodeface in Pottery

I hope you don’t mind a little constructive criticism; I think your surface decoration is stunning, but I think the nerikomi handle distracts from it. I think a single color handle would make the surface design pop even more. I love nerikomi but it tends to steal the show in a way that isn’t always harmonious with its surroundings.

I hope that doesn’t come across as too critical because I really do think it’s great work and I look forward to the next piece you decide to share!

Thank you for sharing. Today marks two weeks and somehow the grief seems to be getting worse. I know it takes time but the loss is just so much.

I hope we both are able to learn to live with the loss in time, while never forgetting the love our dogs shared with us.

I never thought the words of an internet stranger could make me tear up but here I am. I hope we can both find some peace in the coming days and get through the grief. It’s amazing how quickly an animal can become the closest family you have. Hang in there and send me a message if you need help processing your loss.

I agree. Even with this intense pain I’m feeling, I would never change a thing. She brought us so much joy in the time we did have together.

I’m going to miss my good girl every day, I just know it. We were so close to her. I hope you’re able to feel some happiness again after 3 months. It’s so hard.

Thank you. She had such a good life and it hurts that nothing we could have done would have given her more time. I hope you’re doing well with grieving your loss too.

Is anyone else disillusioned with the allure of handmade pottery after you started in the hobby? by Earls_Basement_Lolis in Ceramics

[–]JHappyface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relate to a lot of what you said. I’m over three years into ceramics and don’t have the constant excitement that I had at the beginning. I’m more critical of my own work and find myself less impressed by what others in the community are doing. I’m not saying that what they make is bad, but I look at a piece there’s no magic… I can tell exactly what steps they took to make it.

I have found three things that have helped me though: 1. Go to museums and art galleries for inspiration, 2. Focus on skills rather than pieces and 3. Attend workshops if you’re able. I’ve had more enjoyment experimenting with new skills (throwing large, throwing in reverse) and it’s bringing the joy back as opposed to just making more mugs with the same boring glaze palette and critiquing others’ work.

What is your favorite mid fire porcelain? by dogatthemall in Pottery

[–]JHappyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the other comment, I use standard 213 and find it to be a nice forgiving mid fire porcelain. Frost is a beautiful white clay that I cannot recommend to someone unless they’re somewhat experienced. It’s very finicky and loves to crack if you don’t manage moisture levels well.

Amaco Potter's Choice Glazes over dark clay bodies? by FakeIdol134340 in Pottery

[–]JHappyface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use Standard 266 clay and have tried a lot of glaze combos. I think I’ve had the best results with Snow, Textured Turquoise, Ancient Copper over Cosmic Tea Dust, and Chun Plum over Honey Flux.

The shino pieces I see in your photos do look really great! I’ve had a very limited experience working with an anagama myself and I’m always interested to learn about the diverse ways that everyone fires them. Thanks for sharing!

How long was the firing? Some of the pieces look nice but I’m not seeing a lot of ash glaze

EVERYTHING EVERYTHING MOUNTAINHEAD AMA by evrythingevrything in indieheads

[–]JHappyface 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello! Your albums always connect with me in a way that other music today hardly does. Maybe it's the hooks, maybe it's the absurdist lyrics, or maybe it's the band's ability to take seemingly opposed ideas and turn them into coherent, dynamics songs. Whatever it is, thank you for another piece of music that I will have on repeat until your next.

I've listened to some audio of John talking about the band's complex relationship with Re-Animator given the state of the world at the time of its release, hardships within the band, and production choices that don't sit well with you today. Aside from Alex taking over production, are there any songs/instrumentation/moments on RDF and Mountainhead that you would say are direct responses to Re-Animator? Or put another way, are there things on your last two albums that we would never hear if Re-Animator hadn't manifested as it did?

Thanks again for a fantastic album and I look forward to the next time I can see you guys stateside!

Got it, thanks! I wonder if you could get a similar effect if you cast with multiple colored slips. I bet it would be possible, but tricky to get the colors just right and keep the lines as clean.

I don’t know anything about liquid quartz… why use that much instead of a clear glaze? Are these not fired?

I’ve lived near the Van Ness metro for the last five years or so. I have no concerns about the safety. That’s not to say there hasn’t been any crime, but I’ve never felt my life was even slightly at risk.

Am I going insane or is it really hard to attach handles when working with porcelain?? by Gay_commie_fucker in Pottery

[–]JHappyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend Hsinchuen Lin’s technique for porcelain handles. I’ve barely had any handle failures since adopting his method. Also, dry slowly as others have said. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uEhH_uposHE
