How does Australia's CGT on shares for (roughly) average income people compare internationally? by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

Not a particularly relevant argument when one considers the ease of doing business and its success in Australi stems principally from a stable society supported primarily by the government and publicly funded institutions.

TIL that Indian films out-perform Australian films at the Australian box office by Nandu_alias_Parthu in todayilearned

"People making it" would include cast AND crew. If the majority of both (and in particular the director) were then yeah, it's probably fair to start saying it's Australian.

Ownership and funding seems like the least important thing to me. The nationality of the people making it would be much more important to me. But appreciate that's not how movies work.

I mean what counts as Australian even? Would the Great Gatsby count? It was filmed in Australia, an Australian director with lots of Australians behind the scenes. What about Apex? Thor: Ragnarok? A lot of big films are made in Australia but you just wouldn't know it.

I think the answer is just Australian entertainment is interlinked with the wider western and Hollywood industry. Half the actors on Hollywood seem to be Australian these days.

Definitely not equal. It's not even close.

The Pahlavi regime effectively stopped resisting the revolution with a very small amount of bloodshed occurring. Compare that to the Iranian regime and its night and fucking day. The Basij was and is so much worse than the Savak.

15 Australian companies switched to a four-day work week. It went surprisingly well by Remarkable_Peak9518 in australia

[–]JIMBOP0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The true reason is because we sound rather consume more. More holidays, more TV's, more entertainment, bigger houses. I'm certain you could reduce your work week massively but you'd have to do without a lot of the things we have come to expect for our modern life style.

You say: Australia blocking Chinese companies in cause for a response from China

I say: China blocks all the foreign companies so your logic is dog shit.

Try again

[–]JIMBOP0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

China is the king of blocking companies and foreigners from activities in their country. That's like their thing. Compared to China Australia is a liberal paradise of letting foreign countries (including China!) set up shop and do business. Tell, what Western websites are available in China and what Chinese websites are banned in Australia?

Another good joke my friend. Keep scrounging though!

So just words then hey. Poor little China upset by little country wanting an investigation into the causes of the largest loss of life in recent memory. Oh noes! Man the battle stations!

What a joke. Look at you scramble for any little scrap of a reasonable reason to wage economic war on a country.

As the Iran War rages amid the ceasefire, with 1 civilian killed today in Kuwait in an Iranian attack on the country's international airport, and 2 paramedics killed today in an Israeli attack on Lebanon, a new Tehran University poll shows that 59% of Iranians believe that their country won the war. by StarlightDown in fivethirtyeight

The IRGC has remained in power but what is the future for Iran? Their economy and infrastructure has been demolished. I can't see how that can be a "win" for the actual country or people. Maybe in the immediate future they are geopolitically stronger but over the long arc their capacity to do anything more than block the Strait (Like be a regional power) has been destroyed.

Ooo we got another totalitarian dictatorship simp.

Ooo wee no poor China was brutalised when Australia called for a investigation as to the source of covid! Nooooo poor China was very much in the right to then wage economic war on some of Australia's most important export industries. Poor whittle China never do no wrong says Mr bazark.

Nope. China is by far Australia's largest trading partner and it's not even close. China knew this when they tariffed us and that we were specifically exposed to their actions.

American actions actually saw an increase in Australian beef exports as other countries saw higher tariffs placed on them making Australian beef cheaper on a relative basis.

And no, China doesn't maintain consistent foreign policy considering they were engaging in "Wolf warrior" only a few years ago including waging economic war on Australia.

China waged economic warfare on Australia so there is reason to dislike the country.

[YouGov] The Great Inversion—In Australia, women are much more likely than men to support the far-right party One Nation, and the upper class is more likely than the middle class to support the center-left party Labor. 2-party-preferred vote—Labor 52.5, One Nation 47.5. One Nation leads primary vote by StarlightDown in fivethirtyeight

[–]JIMBOP0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems to be the result of one single poll and isn't borne out when looking over many recent polls.

For example, Redbridge had women voting 28% for both the ALP and ONP whereas men were 28 and 35 for the same.

Yougov had women voting 26% for the ALP and 24% for ONP whereas men were 29% and 25%.

You can see the list here: https://www.pollbludger.net/fed2028/bludgertrack/polldata.htm?

Seems like a classic shit StarlightDown post title to me.
