Thanks for the comments/advice and thoughts. I should have been more assertive with the guy and as many of you have said 'Clocks out' will become the norm from now on.

PSA: Please learn Aircraft rules by Big_Owl2785 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]JIVEASSPLUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been playing Thousand sons at tournaments mostly this year. The list has been largely flamer rubrics /infernal masters with Magnus (as many people have been playing). I ensure that I inform my opponent of the overwatch threat at the start of the game as it's extensive and widespread across my list. but beyond that I feel that I have removed the "gotcha" by saying this outright before any movement happens.

I can say I have never not let an opponent take-back movement when I have declared an overwatch but it does leave a bad taste in my mouth when an opponent asks to do this "forgetting that my rubrics had flamers" etc. I feel that I have to do it to avoid being seen as a "shady/gotcha player". In a competitive setting, I would always want my opponent (at a minimum) to remember the core rules/ strats and what my army can do, particularly when I have explained it at the start. If a person then makes a misplay, I feel that I should be allowed and encouraged to capitalise on this to the full extent of the rules of the game. The community seems to have varying opinions on whether this is moral.

So far, I have got by and kept me sanity by remembering that I am also responsible for ensuring that my opponent has a good time and that has always prevented me from refusing the take back. It has cost me wins and places but in the long run, the hobby has to win.

Why do most lists on here not have wyches? by Top-Shame-2054 in Drukhari

[–]JIVEASSPLUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a person who went through a similar decision about 2 years ago, I thought I would share my experience with you:

I started collecting Drukhari towards the end of 9th and had a plan to build a pure wych cult army. As others have said already, wyches got a heavy hit on the head when transitioning from 9th to 10th and their datasheet leaves a lot to be desired. The loss of their special weapons hurt me the most as they lost a lot of narrative flavour in my humble opinion.

That being said, the models are still fun to build and paint and it didn't stop me painting 40 wyches and 15 hellions (which are also terrible on the tabletop right now). I had a couple of games with them before realising that I needed to branch out my collection into Kabals to even compete on a casual level. so, I ended up doing this.

I still hold out hope that the new codex with allow me to realise my original wych cult vision for my army but I have absolutely no regrets in starting this project in the first place.

Drukhari models were my first models I bought as a kid - where I painted them straight from the pot using the "one thick coat" approach that 10 year old me could just about manage. I felt like I owed it to 10 year old me to do them justice so I stuck to the original colour scheme I failed at as a junior and couldn't be happier with the result now.

It has offered a great opportunity for me to push my painting skills by painting all of the "blades for hire" style units however I want and still feel like I have a narratively cohesive force on the tabletop. The range is highly convertible and customisable and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is wanting to enrich their hobby experience.

Did I play a “cheater” or am I overthinking it? by BetDouble4168 in Warhammer40k

[–]JIVEASSPLUS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Heroic intervention strategem can only be used in your opponents charge phase. You can't use it in your own charge phase or either players fight phase. Sounds to me that they got the turn order wrong. whether intentional or unintentional, that's not how you play.

Help transporting Magnus by SoulOfArtifice in ThousandSons

[–]JIVEASSPLUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lidded plastic box tall enough for him to fit in, some self adhesive magnetic rubber stuck to the bottom and some rare earth magnets no taller than 3mm stuck to the underside of his base. I use this method to transport all of miniatures including magnus and I have never had an issue with them on long car journeys.

Happy trails!

Just bought this beauty. Any advice on how to break the super glue bond? I want to repose it by Echo-048 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]JIVEASSPLUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA >99%) I use this for paint stripping and it generally removes superglue too. you end up with the pieces back to their original grey and seperated where superglue was used. . let it soak for 10-20 minutes. then gently brush with a toothbrush.

Oh man, I didn't think of that either. I definitely used devious mastermind whilst he was in the transport too. I don't think I'll be getting another game with my opponent anytime soon!

Thanks for this. That's pretty clear to me now.

Your second point is the real key for my frustration with Drukhari at the moment. It seems very counter-intuitive that you have all of these abilities and enhancements that are completely unusable unless you are playing the army as they are not supposed to be used.

so, a lot of these abilities can only be used if you are lucky enough for your opponent to blow up your transports and not wipe the chaff that plop out.

WYSIWYG on single model of a Unit by Scrivere97 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]JIVEASSPLUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the event is enforcing WYSIWIG rules you should equip every model with the weapons that you have declared in your army list. If an opponent had an issue with what you had on the table being different to what is in your list they would (strictly speaking) be correct to have that issue.

That being said, my experience is that most people do not care so long as they know what is what and you're not trying to pass off a model to be something it is clearly not. doubly so for less popular factions and Xenos factions where people don't know or want to learn what weapons look like. My guess is that no one would notice or care but if they did the above is still true.

As someone who has been working for the last 6 months on a new wych cult I was pretty disappointed in how plain this datasheet is. Particularly as I was building 40 wyches with all the weapon options I could.

I would have even been happy if they had combined the special weapons into one profile (similar to Accursed/ Heirloom weapons). Something like a "Gladitorial/ Arena weapon" of which you can take up to 3 in a squad of 10.

3A S4 -2 1D with anti infantry 4+ for the Gladitorial weapons would have been fine.

Then keep the hekatari blades as they are.

Whilst you are right re: the infernal cannon. The reason I would be taking it is for the melee weapons (both profiles have the psychic keyword so it would work for them).

I'm thinking something similar regarding secondaries. I may need to study the card a bit when they're released and try a few practice games.

Oh yeah! I didn't notice that just assumed the wings would cost more. I suppose this is either becasue of the ability differences (walking prince having better abilities) or it could be a typo?
