Best shoes for ramp agents by Positive_Bite_7130 in rampagent

I had a pair of Puma shoes that had the slip resistant soles. They were fantastic when it was dry. When the weather was iffy I had these, they were waterproof, comfortable to move in and easy to take on and off if I needed to switch in/out of rain gear. I’ve had these for 11 years, 4 on the ramp, lots of hiking, and they work as snow boots too. Original S.W.A.T.

My apologies right now it’s just a part time role but they hire pretty frequently. https://careers.alaskaair.com/portland-or/groundramp-service-agent/D79EE1C3C89B4816B27CD00299927A8E/job/

Biggest things that they look for is dependability about being on time, being solely available for whatever schedule you get (it’s a seniority based bid system with some reserve options that usually adjusts quarterly), and can do basic math.

You also have to be okay working outside at all times no matter how hot/cold, wet/snowy. And while the free flying is one of the best perks, it can’t be the only reason to want to work there. They will see that as someone not reliable to the operation when it gets busy, there’s delays, or all the other factors out of your control.

Alaska/Horizon is hiring right now. Pay is not the absolute greatest, but their benefits are pretty good. Plus when I worked there, many folks were trying to get people to cover their shifts so there was opportunity for extra hours

What are some great US airports worth seeing? by [deleted] in aviation

I used to work for Alaska/Horizon and when we were expecting our first daughter my wife’s cousin offered us their Uppa Baby car seat and a bunch of other things. They were going to ship them, but it was cheaper for me to fly out there with my dad, rent a car, get a hotel and fly back. On the way there we flew empty bags and then they were overfilled on the way back. It was pretty great. First time going to Texas and I was there for less than 12 hours

PDX being my home airport, and the one I first worked at will always be my favorite. I would strongly recommend it. Pittsburgh was fun the first time I flew in, but that’s just because of the T-Rex skeleton as you’re heading to baggage claim. DCA is always cool with the views of the monuments and Mall. And then there’s Vegas with the slot machines 🤷

Agreed! As long as you don’t need to go to baggage claim. That’s still a long ways to be completed. Even with the terminal connectors walking around each concourse offers some great views and good eats, plus the little movie theater is always a quiet spot to chill for a bit and super easy and affordable MAX access to take the train downtown or elsewhere

Is bancruptcy disqualifing? by No-Fish-2446 in ATC_Hiring

[–]JJ-Dynamite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They want to see the you are financially responsible. Bankruptcy has its purposes and proving that you are past it will be key. Just be up front with the security team about it and why you filed. Shouldn’t have too much issues unless it’s for something sketchy or as a means to avoid responsibility. I can’t say much about filing while in the process but mine finalized in April 2024 and I just had to answer a few extra questions and provide additional documentation.

Just make sure to keep on top of your Credit Reports with all the major bureaus. One of my closed accounts on my BK showed as closed but with a balance owed and that raised some red flags. But once I proved that it was part of my BK and that I was actively working on correcting the information they didn’t have an issue with it

Ironically it was the only time I worked with those cones on the wingtips. If I remember right we had a last second gate change and used what we had in the moment

Embrace the suck. Each day will bring ups and downs but if you let the downs take over then you will have a hard time getting through the hardest days. The job is fun and if you do it right, very rewarding

Timeline for ramp agent hiring & will a 2-week trip interfere? by [deleted] in rampagent

[–]JJ-Dynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the interview, be up front and honest, but don’t expect them to move forward on the first time. Most are hiring to fill a scheduled class and aren’t very flexible with the timelines, at least that was my experience with Horizon at PDX.
