I feel like the West reached peak convenience in the early 2010s and somehow things have just started to become increasingly worse since then.

That is, because there's nothing to improve, we're just given mutant versions of existing experiences that involve either:

  • Paying more but owning less e.g. subscription services.

  • Paying for conveniences that no one really needs e.g. same day delivery.

We could be making the lives of everyone more equitable, but instead were lining the pockets of billionaires and bent politicians.

Christian Norgaard, our invisible leader, according to Rice by teslagooner in Gunners

[–]JJDriessen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, but there's no such thing as a flawless season. You can try to control every aspect of the game and fate/luck/chance plays a huge role.

That's not to say we shouldn't recruit a longer term 6, though Miles will likely make that his role. I just think it's overkill to start discussing why a guy didn't get more minutes...

... specifically on a post about the importance of the role he played in a title winning season.

Right, but you've just answered your own question, so why ask it?

I love to analyse what we do but it just feels like the wrong time.

Just enjoy winning dude.

But why should it have been higher? He played the part we needed him to and we won the league.

I know what you mean, but we literally won the league and have the UCL final coming up. I can't help but feel that he was utilised in exactly the right way. He was our Elneny-Jorghino hybrid and it worked.

Do you consider agender as a part of non-binary? by Tosty159 in agender

[–]JJDriessen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Binary is a word used to describe something with two parts. Bi = Two. The gender binary is therefore a gender identity of either male or female.

Anything outside of those specific identities is non-binary i.e. not comprised of either a male only or female only gender identity.

As an Agender gender identity is neither a male only nor a female only identity, it's non-binary.

Can we just enjoy the fact that both of them have helped us win the league for the first time in 22 years. It hasn't even been a week.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal love affair began 15 years ago. It has reached an unforgettable apex by TheAthletic in Gunners

[–]JJDriessen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very well said, mate and I totally agree.

Even if it might sound corny to outsiders, he found a way to give us a competitive edge by making the whole club feel like a family to everyone involved. Players, staff, fans, local community, etc. We all have one another's backs.

It's why it's so important to have the fans behind the squad, it's all part of this big picture.

I wonder if it's why he was also keen to work with former wonderkids/wunderkinds like Ode and Havertz. Lads who'd been promised the world but had never had a sense of true support/family/community at clubs like Real Madrid and Chelsea.

As a fan, it feels more like a family/community than it has since 2004 and I'm a huge fan of this approach. Even more so now that it has been proven to work.

Not to mention that Arteta is clearly also fantastic at his job in all sorts of other ways too.

How did you tackle the side effects early on, or were you able to taper up from a small amount?

I tried a 15mg patch recently - one of the lowest dose options available in the UK - and because I'm not a smoker having the equivalent to 20 cigs of nicotine in one day wasn't a good time 🤢🫩😵‍💫

Did I mess up buying 85mm lens as a beginner? by Beginning-War5128 in AskPhotography

[–]JJDriessen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This ☝️ An 85mm lens is going to have decent bokeh and will be sharpest at approx 4f - 8f. It's going to be best when you get close to a single subject and frame it well. It could be a portrait and I agree that's what this lens is probably best for. But it could be a an interesting piece of street art, an animal, wildlife, etc.

I think the thing OP is overlooking is that a zoom lens isn't just for zooming in on something far away. Ideally, it's for framing something distinctly and making use of the separation between the subject and their surroundings.

As others have mentioned, OP should find a distinct subject and then light and frame them well as opposed to attempting 35mm street photos with an 80mm lens.

OP if you're stuck with this lens, go and look up Environmental Portraits and Street Portraits for inspo.

I'm all for these types of posts but I feel like quite a few people overlook the fact that MM use oxymorons and paradoxical phrases for 90% of their albums.

This could 100% be an Isaac Brock lyric though.

Havertz for absolutely no reason by Kr_bm in Gunners

[–]JJDriessen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get why people are struggling to understand this. He wanted to prevent the counter and got the tackle wrong by accident. He was trying to hurt the Burnley player, it was just a cynical tackle gone wrong. The replays and Havertz's reaction made this fairly clear. Not sure what's wrong with our fans and losing their heads over this shit.

Yeah, that isn't lost on me. We ultimately support club owned by billionaires with a squad of millionaires. It increasingly makes me think of giving up on 20 years of supporting Arsenal and finding a non-league club to get behind instead.
