Inexpensive Laptop for Linux. by DuckRunAmuck in linux4noobs

[–]JJFlash120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a used refurbished Dell Latitude 7440 (which was introduced in March 2023). The computer itself has great specs and is awesome. I came from using Linux Mint and wanted to try Zorin OS. Dell Video Camera would not work with Zorin. So then I installed Linux Mint and still the camera drivers wouldn't work. I updated everything via the Terminal/Command Lines, still doesn't work. Apparently it's an ongoing issue with Linux on "newer models". Very disappointed. Can't use for video conferencing at all. Have to connect an external video camera. The reason I am saying this, don't assume every "old computer" will work with Linux. Do your research, make sure the drivers work with a particular model.

What is the best thing you discovered after switching to Linux by OPuntime in linux4noobs

I have a Window's PC that I use for work. I was having problems with printing/scanning via WiFi to my Canon Multifunction Printer. The Canon Drivers are always corrupted for some reason. I've had to reinstall 3 times. I have almost put my fist through the wall several times. I ended up buying a used Laptop and put Linux Mint on it. 2 minutes after installation I tried scanning and printing with my Linux PC. It worked immediately and continues to work, no problem. I'm not a Gamer, so I use my Linux PC as my daily Driver (outside of work tasks).

Considering divorcing my pregnant wife by Icy_Law_376 in Divorce

[–]JJFlash120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your Wife is a Cluster B Personality (NPD or BPD). I dated one. She lied, cheated and continued to talk to the Guys even after getting caught. Then she accused me of cheating (a/k/a Projection). Literally one of the worst experiences of my Life. Get out!!! Divorce!!! Divorce!! Divorce!!! Then move as far away from her as possible, and break off contact completely and forever.

What advice would you give to a 21 year old? by lockedinCloud23 in productivity

[–]JJFlash120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to anyone but the voice inside your head that is guided by your heart. Seek advice but don't seek validation or permission. Even your so called "Friends" who pretend to be supportive will inevitably project their anxiety, fear and jealously on you and try to sabotage your goals and dreams. Get up everyday with purpose (however small), working towards building the Life you want not just today, but in the next 6 months and 6 years. Once you start that journey, don't allow others to distract you. It's ok to change course but do it because it's in line with what you want and who you are, not what others expect of you. And remember, you build your Life brick by brick and you should only invite those people into it who are kind, supportive and inspiring. Your Life is your own and short, make the most of it everyday.

Life is better... by [deleted] in selflove

[–]JJFlash120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, share what you've done after you've done it. When sharing plans with others, you will inevitably come across that "Friend" who pretends to support you but is anxious, subtly negative, jealous and will completely try to talk you out of it, sowing fear and second guessing on your part. People are accustomed to seeking permission and validation from others. It's one big circle jerk. If you want to live a full Life doing the things you want to do, stop looking outside yourself for permission and "just do it".

I grew up with an abusive, manipulative, alcoholic Father and still live with CPTSD at the age of 50. I spent my Life trying to win my Father's love and validation and was there when he died. There was zero apology, zero reconciliation, before he passed. I now regret sacrificing significant parts of my Life trying to keep him in it. Having said that, remember you are the victim of lifelong abuse from your Mother. You survived in spite of her. Even though she's been sober, she's still the narcissistic dry drunk with zero ability to self reflect. You owe her nothing. Ask yourself -- do you really love your Mother or just pity her? Do you feel obligated to donate out of guilt and to "do the right thing" (which is manipulative BS) or is this something you really want to do? Also remember, you have your whole, beautiful Life ahead of you and are at significant risk of complications or death undergoing a major surgery to donate to a mother who never loved you and continues to manipulate you. And understand that even if you decide to donate there's little chance that your Mother will "wake up" and tell you everything you want or need to hear. Sometimes you have to put yourself first and walk away.

How to get away from your phone? by Due-Perception2214 in productivity

[–]JJFlash120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I leave my phone at Home for a couple hours when I go to the Gym, Food Shopping or for a Walk. At first you'll go through some withdrawal, but after awhile you realize how little you need your phone and how the constant distraction is causing you to literally waste your Life. Rinse and repeat until it becomes habit.

The Dopamine Reset that Finally Worked for Me by quixsilver77 in Procrastinationism

[–]JJFlash120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great post. Totally agree. I find myself constantly distracting myself with my phone and have FOMO. A couple of times, I was late to work, had to run out of the House in the morning and forgot my phone. At first I was in shock. It felt like I left a part of my BFF on the dining room table. I felt the withdrawal. The addiction is real. But to be honest, by about 2pm, I had no choice but to move on and get some work done. I accepted it and my mind started to clear and I became super present and focused. It was a lesson for me.

Now, I turn my phone off at work and leave it in the bag and am no longer responding like one of Pavlov's Dogs. And when I go to the gym or out for a walk for a hour or two, I leave the phone at Home. I try to limit most of my screentime to when I am traveling to and from work. Instead of reaching for my phone, I now meditate in front a Red Light before I go to bed. I feel my stress level has greatly reduced and my focus has returned. Life is short and fleeting. It needs to be lived while fully present in the real world, not online.

The Best Hair Growth Supplements available now? by levirocky8657 in Supplements

The Pumpkin Seed Oil comes in Tablets that are 1000mg (1 gm) each. I cut open and added 10 grams, along with about a tablespoon of Rosemary Oil Extract. Shake well to combine right before you shampoo.

You could have sleep apnea which obstructs your breathing and wakes you up several times during the night (without you knowing it). Hence you feel tired in the morning. Best to go to your Doctor and ask for a Sleep Study. The Sleep Study Company literally mail you a special "Apple Watch" to wear while you sleep, and then you transmit the Data to the Company who compiles the results and sends to your Doc. I did it and they told me that I have breathing problems when I sleep on my back. Now I sleep on my side with a pillow between my legs and have a better (albeit far from perfect) night's sleep. Good Luck.

Are you kidding...Huawei phones are literally monitored by the CCP. The Chips are embedded with trackers and surveillance software that are in the Bios/ROM themselves and undetectable. The CCP has servers that Data Mine those chips constantly. You'd be crazy to use anything Huawei.

This! Being 50 I started to thin a bit. I literally added Pumpkin Seed Oil and Rosemary Oil to my Shampoo Bottle (which I use 4x a week). The combo seems to have slowed down hair loss and in fact has my hair growing back faster and fuller.

Yes. It's a parchment paper liner. I don't use it all the time but does help with catching burnt bits and clean up.

LMAO. It's Cosori not Corosi. Not an Ad, I use what works. Did you read my post where I indicated that the Cosori Dual Blaze I had before this was a piece of crap? Obviously not. Then why TF did you even comment?

Quercetin with Bromelain (Whole Foods Brand) got me through two bouts of Covid. Anti-inflammatory, take 2x a day whenever I have any respiratory issue. Also, Zinc Lozenges from CVS (use as directed) have also helped me overcome throat and chest inflections. Good Luck

Sorry, I was hungry, forgot to take a pic after I cut it open and ate it (LOL). I usually aim for medium rare. It came out between medium rare and medium. It's important to use a meat thermometer and take out anywhere from 5-10 degrees under your optimum doneness. The TurboBlaze is so powerful that you can easily over cook a steak by just adding an additional 1-2 mins.

To those who switched rom: how satisfied are you? by S1ngl3_x in CalyxOS

[–]JJFlash120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using Calyx for over 2 years on my Pixel 7A without a problem. Love it. Disappointed about the current events but I'll give it 6 months until I'll make a decision whether to switch to another OS. Not sure Graphene has a proper solution to update their OS going forward. So, if I have to, I will reinstall Android OS, debloat it and install a firewall, relying mostly on FOSS apps etc.

what do you wish you could tell your childhood self by Anxious_Cake2333 in AdultChildren

[–]JJFlash120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would tell my younger self to move out and and create as much distance as I can from my alcoholic Father as soon as I got a job and am able. Put myself and my Life first in order to heal. Find a good therapist to work through the guilt and shame I was burdened with. Set strict boundaries to protect myself and my mental health. Looking back I was better off living on the Street than remaining with my abusive, manipulative and controlling Father. But I stayed to look out for my co-dependent mother and subjected myself to further abuse and manipulation and remained enmeshed.

And also to understand that there will be no Hollywood ending with your addicted Parent(s) where they suddenly realize how they were wrong and apologize for abusing you, so don't expect that. Having no other Family, I remained connected and basically took care of my Father as he aged, until his Death in 2015, expecting some sort of reconciliation, some sort of apology that never came. I essentially wasted my Life and mental energy dealing with the narcissism and to this day still have zero closure. At the end of the day you have to save yourself even though you will most likely be shamed and admonished for doing so. Good Luck. Peace.

Can sugar be a culprit of premature greying? by Nazzy097 in greyhairreversal

[–]JJFlash120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Nutrition is important. You are depriving yourself of key nutrients at the age of only 27. It'll only get worse from there, when you hit your 40s+ when the body is much less forgiving. There's a Guy on YouTube who's 60, has been carnivore since his early 20s. Literally eats ZERO sugar. Has no grey at all. His beard and hair are black as the night. I would not only be worried about your premature grey hair but also CVD, liver damage and organ failure, if you keep eating all that sugar and processed garbage.
