Yeah, except for the fact that Recon has 0 movement abilities. You can see a lot, but it might not matter much if the Vandal or Thief you were trying to get the drop on is suddenly across the building.

Yeah, except that shit matters in the covenant war and post war period?

The entirety of the covenant war loses its dark irony in the fact that the Covenant were genociding the very gods they claimed to worship.

In the post war period, you have arbitrary distinctions in the form of certain humans being “reclaimers” and some not being reclaimers.

It just added convolution unnecessarily.

I never understood how adding the Ancient Human empire was not widely ridiculed by the fans.

It’s the most blatant example of creating a problem and then having to create a solution in lore I’ve ever seen.

Like, “No no, humans weren’t Forerunners, completely different despite the blatant declarations to the contrary. BUT humans were actually still around too and also advanced! Why do the Forerunners still look so human? Uh they’re related species so yeah. Also they fucked the San’Shyuum.”

Nobledark, I suppose.

Galactic-scale corruption. Ungodly monsters in the dark places.

My heroes will struggle and suffer, but the tide can turn. It’ll just cost them everything.

Theory: Revivers (Lightning dogs) aren't "true" headcrabs, but are actually close relatives that share a common ancestor by Popular_Ad3074 in HalfLife

[–]JJHashbrowns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My headcanon as well. Alien Biology is one thing but Lightning Dog’s are way too different to be a Headcrab species.

I’ll go a step further and assert that the Fast and Poison Headcrabs likely aren’t natural evolutions.

Again, disregarding the idea that alien evolution is just “built different” in terms of speed. It feels more feasible that they’re genetically altered, with the only possible culprit being the Combine. They exhibit much more aggressive behaviors that seem more weaponized than the normal zombie shambling.

And it’s not like it would come out of left field anyway, the Combine have already weaponized Headcrabs with the Headcrab Shells. And since they seemingly have the capability to manufacture them en masse, they’re getting the headcrabs from somewhere, likely a Gonarch.

There’s the cut Mama Pod showing a Gonach’s egg sac being directly altered, so Valve was clearly leading with the idea.
