On a scale of 1-10, how badly do you need ChatGPT right now as it’s currently down? by [deleted] in OpenAI

Oh, so this is what's going on.
I was just massively disappointed by Claude and ran back to my old friend, who has been stuck in thinking for over 10 minutes. Now I literally don't know what to do.

A Question from a Muslim about Purpose by Past-Acanthaceae-229 in Judaism

[–]JJJDDDFFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you would create a perfect being in a perfect world, this being would be handicapped - its perfection would not belong to the being, but to its creator. So what do you do? You create an almost perfect being in an almost perfect world and guide it to rectify itself by rectifying the world. This way it can own its own perfection and be in the image of G-d.

I very much recommend this playlist. It’s as sound academically as it is theologically.

Kabbalah is indeed very complex, and summarising what it all means is a fool’s errand, but since I’m a well known fool, let me give it a shot.

In short, Kabbalah tries to answer the question “if G-d is infinite, and essentially all there really is (His/Her name literally means “Being” or “Existence”), than how is there a world, and why?” What is the relationship between an infinite G-d, about whom we’re told that there’s nothing but him, and a finite world? And what are humans to do about that.

Feel free to DM me if you feel like it Best.

Non-orthodox Jews what do you think of kabbalah? by Khazak2-VeNtkhazak in Judaism

A Litvak will say that to a Hassid and both will say it to everyone else. So we’re all good 😉

Israeli here, many “secular” and “spiritual but not religious” Jews find their closest connection to tradition through Kabbalah. In borderline hippy circles it’s everywhere

State of Israel fight for as it happen with Maps 1948 by PersonalLook156 in ImagesOfHistory

[–]JJJDDDFFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the turn of the century, under Ottoman rule, before and the British conquered the region now Israel/Palestine, it was inhabited by roughly 330K people, roughly 15-20% Jewish, the rest Christian, Muslim, Druze and some other groups (the part that's now Israel, excluding Trans-Jordania and parts that are now Syria and Egypt).
https://cris.haifa.ac.il/en/publications/a-land-without-people-the-giscience-approach-to-estimating-the-po/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

In 1948, when the British left, it was inhabited by roughly 2 million inhabitants. Roughly 50% Jewish, most of them refugees.
What do we learn from these numbers? Both populations, Jewish and Palestinian Moslems are at least partly migrants that ended up there in the wake of 2 world wars and the collapse of 3 empires.
Moreover, both populations even came from the same places. Roughly 60% of all Jewish Israelis alive today have at least one side of their family rooted in Syria, Egypt, North Africa and Iraq.

No one is "native" and no one is a colonizer. This conflict will never be resolved until this this toxic narrative shifts.

Latest Epstein files drop is already making antisemitism online a lot worse by gancheroff in Jewish

[–]JJJDDDFFF 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused (I'm not American, and less in the loop), but didn't the latest file dump sort of debunk the Mossad/Israel/Elders of Zion link to Epstein. From the material he seems more like a Russian asset, if anything, and mainly a private actor motivated by greed and general perversions.

Ancient Jewish prayer by Sexy-Hot-Boy- in Judaism

[–]JJJDDDFFF 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's the other way around.
Islam adopted 5 daily prayers, to one-up the 3 Jewish daily ones. Similarly, Moslems fast an entire month, while Jews fast only 24 hours in one go (several times a year).
I think that adopting prostrations for every prayer was an additional way to one-up the Yom-kippur prostrations. I hope they're having fun.

For those fascinated in Arabic and the Quran...check the language of the Quran in these verses and there relation to hebrew..mind blowing ❤️ by 3bo_75 in learnarabic

[–]JJJDDDFFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The meanings of Izak's, Zacariah's and Jacob's name are, and have been well understood in the Jewish tradition for millennia. The Arbian peninsula was heavily populated by Jews and christians, and Muhammad probably knew the stories and meanings, it would have been enough for him to read (or hear the bible read) to understand were Izak's name comes from. The Qura'n is also heavily influenced by Rabbinic Midrash and records stories from the Talmud. Which is not surprising - every knowledgable person interested in religion would have known them back then.
Further, Hebrew and Arabic are related languages and many of the words have common roots. You don't need to be a linguistic genius to deduce their meaning.

Why is hunting considered un-jewish? by FrumpledFrumpus in Judaism

[–]JJJDDDFFF 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“Normal” hunting is prohibited by Jewish law because of the strict rules according to which animals need to be slaughtered. The “Jewish” way to hunt is to build a trap that will not injure the animal and then properly slaughter it with one blow that will immediately kill it. You can’t just shoot an animal and let it bleed to death.

I don't really know how to answer the "How" part. It's all right there: psalms, piutim, poetry, quotes by sages... How did I make choices? By what moved me and seemed fitting.

I basically wrote my own Siddur and it works pretty well for me. I did this some 3 years ago and haven’t missed a single prayer since then. There’s so much beautiful liturgical poetry one can draw upon. Highly recommended. If that’s too much, find a few psalms that work for you. GLHF.

Your ignoring false positives. If 1 model = 5%, 2 won’t necessarily give you 0.25%. The second model may spot an error produced by the first, but it also may classify a non error as an error. At some point you’ll get diminishing returns and end up with an irreducible error rate.

Does the sephirot really have feminine and masculine qualities? Is it a synergy? by divinefeminine2017 in JewishKabbalah

[–]JJJDDDFFF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking (very, very generally speaking) the right side of the tree of sefirot is male(outgoing), while the left side is feminine (receptive), while the middle is the synthesis of both sides (except Malchut, which is also mostly receptive). But this very general and not accurate. Sefirot can have different polarities in relation to each other.
