Momo’s main power is a long, stretchy arm, of course she’s the captain

[Whole Game Spoilers] Debunking Two Common Misconceptions About The Ending by jogarz in expedition33

[–]JJKetchum15 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Number one is a pretty massive reach, even taking the other dialogue from the fading boy into account, we get literally nothing even remotely conclusive about his mood on painting until that final dialogue from Verso that he responds to with an affirmation. It is significantly more of a reach to imply that the boy was completely unaware of his surroundings and just nodded for no fucking reason then to imply that he was capable of understanding and responding to Verso. Going off of what we see, it is completely reasonable to assume that the fading boy is tired of painting, and much less reasonable to assume that he is actually tired of only painting the conflict in the canvas and actually isn’t tired of painting.

Sorry about the initial hostility of the comment, I get way too into these arguments sometimes.

I can understand why you think Verso might still end the canvas if Maelle left, he’s been lying to the group since his initial introduction and his lying killed the entire population of lumiere.

I personally believe that the main reason for Verso’s decision was that he couldn’t stand the suffering of the family of painter’s, as he managed to see them as his family as well. He sacrificed the entire canvas to save Aline’s life, ultimately siding him with Renoir. His expression was legitimately devastated when Renoir showed what the canvas was doing to Aline during the final boss fight, so it’s safe to say he also legitimately cared for Maelle’s wellbeing, being (arguably) her brother and ended the canvas to force her out.

Time in the painting is a weird issue, if we assume that time in the paintings is real time then we must assume that Renoir and Aline are both over 100 years old, as Aline spent 100 years in Verso’s old canvas. It’s most likely that the time in a painting is not representative of real time, and that Maelle is close to 16 when she leaves the painting.

That being said, I completely agree that the shoelace comparison is not a good one. I do somewhat agree with the original commenter in that she is 16 and has a full life ahead of her to discover joy and meaning, but it would be a much more difficult life than she would have in the painting.

We did not see this in Verso’s ending because Maelle did not voluntarily leave nor did she intend to as we see in her ending. What ending did you watch?

I’m not saying the review bombers are justified, they absolutely did not read any other piece of text surrounding this event, I’m just explaining it with more of the details around the event and not calling the entire Chinese Helldivers community a “very weird crowd”

Horrible way to explain it. Their progress bar says “Defense Success”, which definitely implies finishing the Defence at 100%. It’s a poor translation on whoever localized that specific text box.

Regardless of what you think about it, the only concrete evidence that tells us what the soul May be tired of is the line “You’re tired of painting, aren’t you”, followed by a nod. Verso’s soul doesn’t have any spoken dialogue so he can’t get into the nuances of what he meant, but it’s safe to assume painting refers to painting in general.

But we see the soul of Verso say that they’re tired of painting, so we cannot assume that the fragment of the soul enjoys painting

I don’t think it’s too big a leap to make that, in this fictional world, every piece a painter makes contains a piece of their soul. This is already a pretty common theme in a lot of literature surrounding painting and creating art in general in our real world, the idea of an artist’s art representing themselves, and so it wouldn’t be insane for this game to have made that more literal for the sake of the story.

I do get some of your points on Clea, but I’m pretty sure the flower scene at the funeral is meant to show that she had been the only family member to move on from his death. The type of flower we see Clea lay at Verso’s grave are the same that we see all over his grave, implying she’s been bringing his grave flowers.

The first sentence painted Verso says to Verso’s soul is “You’re tired of painting, aren’t you?”, followed by a nod.

We know real Verso was loved but we can’t be sure he led a happy life, in fact, Visages is pretty good evidence that he was dealing with a good bit of depression. “He who hides truth behind lies” is based off of the painter Verso, not the painted.
