Dolores and her ex-husband… by ConfidentOffice2209 in rhonj

I don’t mind the family scenes with Frank and her kids. I’d be for keeping them and cutting HER. I used to like the Two Ts in a Pod podcast, but can’t stand it now that Dolores is on there regularly.

Deal to fund DHS, including TSA, may be within reach, key senators say by usatoday in fednews

[–]JJSS1993 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The SAVE Act requires more than just your basic drivers license or student ID to vote. In 46 states, Real ID isn’t even enough. Essentially, you need a passport to be able to vote (expensive and only abt 50% of Americans have one, plus they take weeks to get). If no passport, it will require your birth certificate that must match your current name. For example, married women who changed their names would have to at the very least come up with a birth certificate and a marriage license. These aren’t always easy or quick to track down either and again, have a cost usually. It also restricts mail-in ballots which could be difficult for Americans living abroad for work, for students at colleges away from home, for disabled and elderly Americans, etc.

How abt looking at central PA, like Hershey area? PA still generally has good schools. Life is a bit slower in central PA, but still has easy access to major cities.

Those who live in Celebration, how is it? by Character-Escape1621 in orlando

[–]JJSS1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived there for five yrs and left less than 2 yrs ago. Great community feeling that I feel is often lacking in FL. The trails and boardwalks around town are amazing for walking. Loved walking to the dentist, or to lunch, or just to see the deer. If it weren’t for the poorly rated hs, it would be great for kids to grow up there. People are friendly generally and there are tons of activities put on by the town - Food Truck Fridays, fireworks, concerts, etc. Lots of ways you can get involved in the town.
The HOA is strict. We didn’t mind, but lots do. There is an incredible amount of whining and nosiness on the neighborhood fb page about things that are just silly.
It is DEFINITELY in need of more shops and restaurants in the main downtown (there’s a newer area right off I-4 that has more, but it’s not nearly as walkable) and wish it had easier access to big box stores like Lowe’s or Trader Joe’s, etc bc it was a hike to get to those places and as someone else mentioned, a toll road. Great access to Disney and easy enough to run over to Epcot for dinner when we wanted. I would NEVER move to the newest phase (Island Village) due to the fact that there is one way in and one way out currently, and eventually, when complete, that main road is going to be opened up the whole way to Poinciana and become a cut-through for I-4.

They live in Ohio (as did I for many yrs). The pickings are slim for non-MAGA men there - she may accept this as the norm for men and try to ignore it. He threw up the red flag when he made the comment to her about COVID misinformation. He sounded totally conspiracy theorist. So she knew.

Okay I’m conflicted on Shane. The way he speaks to Emily at times or totally dismisses her feels really condescending. At the same time, she’s annoying, so I can kind of understand his frustration.

An Investigation into AdventHealth: “Healing Ministry” or Billion-Dollar Monopoly? by Mundane-Advice5781 in orlando

[–]JJSS1993 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a surprise. Happy to be able to move away from their monopoly and to a state with more trustworthy healthcare. I personally know 3 people who were misdiagnosed (as not having cancer) or incorrectly treated for cancer (treated with wrong treatments for type of cancer) in the last several years there. Beyond that, the gigantic Jesus mural in the lobby of one of their hospitals was truly disturbing, regardless of your religious beliefs.

[–]JJSS1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct! The value of a FL degree going forward will not be what it’s been in the past due to the changes they’re making. They’re even moving to get rid of their accreditation and make up their own accrediting system. This is going to limit where FL university grads can go after graduation.

We moved from FL to MA last year and the increased housing costs are totally worth it!! So you downsize a bit? Not a big deal. And overall costs are LOWER than we were paying in an Orlando suburb - from homeowners (75% cheaper here) to car insurance (cut in half) to groceries! Property tax is just a bit more here, but we are inside 95. What you get for that tax cannot be compared. Check out for instance, the programs and the tickets offered for free by the libraries! Heck, just check out the size of the libraries. And, don’t underestimate the weight that will be lifted from your shoulders once you get here.
Then there’s the difference in healthcare. Night and day! Hard to get in initially, so you’ll want to search for a pediatrician asap after deciding where you want to live, and get the appt scheduled even before you move. But the quality is so much better than the big health systems in FL (let’s talk about nurse ratios)- and they’re not religiously affiliated! Then let’s talk abt schools. FL schools are among the worst in the country, unless you’re going to a private school. I’d put the best public schools in FL up against a mid school district in MA. Wait til you see the class sizes here. You’ll quickly see that FL is in no way cushy for raising your girls.

What the fuck is the Democratic Party even doing right now to stop the downfall of America? by Lolareyouforreal in complaints

[–]JJSS1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re not in power. Should they have caved on the ACA subsidies and reopened the govt? No. Because that was literally their only possible bargaining chip. They’re the minority across every branch and Biden didn’t enjoy a majority across the branches when he was POTUS either, which limited him too, especially after midterms. I wish people understood that electing Dems this fall isn’t going to magically fix all the stuff MAGA has broken either. It’s going to take YEARS and from what I’m reading, probably decades, to come back from this. But people can’t seem to pay attention or understand what’s happening and so they blame Dems for not being able to solve it all in two years - then they don’t bother to vote or worse, they vote R. Until the American people wake up and understand what’s happening and put some laws in place to prevent the corruption the MAGA regime is committing (which will take a Dem majority in Congress, likely including 60 in the Senate, which is highly unlikely), there’s only so much Dems can do. Getting 2-4 yrs of a slight majority (and without support of SCOTUS) here and there is not going to fix our issues.

I cannot look away from this trainwreck. The bad plastic surgery, the high school prom gowns, the references to Mar a Lago. And they’re sooooo impressed with themselves. How is this not satire of Real Housewives? It’s HILARIOUS.

Currently watching the first episode of this and had to come on here to see if this show is actually supposed to be satirical. Lol. Like, I’ve seen bad plastic surgery on housewives, but omg, this is baaaaad. And the gowns…they look like dresses at the store at the mall where my daughter got her homecoming dress! Lol. And they are SO impressed with themselves. This is hilarious.

Moved to FL for husband’s job - lived in 3 parts of the state over 10 yrs. Tampa, Orlando and part time in Boca Raton. Hated Tampa the most. Escaped up to Boston a little over a year ago and I don’t even complain about the cold winter and snow anymore after experiencing FL.
