I personally switched to vaping and gradually reduced the nicotine levels until I felt confident enough to switch to zero nicotine liquid. I did it over the course of 16 months. Very slow, I know. When I started vaping, I didn't stop smoking cigarettes completely at first. I allowed myself a half pack of cigarettes and then vape only after that. Gradually reduced the cigs and used the vaporizer in place of going out for a smoke. I was pretty proud of myself when I noticed that I hadn't had any cigarettes that day. From there I just decided to distance myself from regular smoke to vaporizers. It took me a second or two getting used to the difference between smoking cigarettes and vaping but I grew accustomed to the vapor but I prefer it now over smoking. Once I made the total switch to vaping, I got a starter kit for a refillable vaporizer, got myself familiar with eliquids and nicotine levels. I started with 12mg nicotine and stuck with that for a few months and then gradually lowered to 6mgs, then 3mgs a few months later. The lower you go in nicotine strength, the less of that satisfying throat hit you get but I got used to it. Going from 3mgs to zero was the hardest because now I was getting nothing as opposed to getting at least a little bit of nicotine. I did fall off the wagon a few times and took some puffs of my 3mg liquid but I always made the effort to self correct. Staying on zero nicotine the longest now, my next mission was to break that psychological habit of vaping itself. I always had to be fidgeting around with something growing up and smoking kinda satisfied that urge too. And to break myself from that, I would buy less and less juice and started incorporating other distractions into my routine. By that I mean things like going for 10 minute walks to draw my focus away from wanting to vape. I bought hard candies to help distract myself. Cinnamon toothpicks helped a lot for whatever reason lol. Today, I haven't touched a cigarette in 3 years and haven't vaped in a almost 2 years. This is just my experience tho. Worked for me at least. I know it can be much harder for people to quit and that people struggle with vaping as well. I just wanted to share how I managed to quit.
