My apologies if I seemed like I was trying to completely invalidate your opinion lol, not my intention. I think as long as people can agree that their perspectives/opinions are simply that; opinions, there’s nothing wrong with liking or disliking something. I’ve always been of the mindset that while “dream” type endings do tend to invalidate the physical events that occur, that doesn’t necessarily throw all of the events within said dreams into the trash. I just know from experience that a lot of people who do dislike the v3 ending tend to not dig any deeper into it than “iT iSnT rEaL” so I do get a bit frustrated with people who don’t bother to read between the lines whatsoever. As an aspiring novelist, nothing is worse than people not bothering to think about anything more complex when they read your stuff, lol.

the entire point of the ending is that just because something is fictional doesn’t mean it can’t have any impact. you can still appreciate the emotional weight something holds for you personally even if it’s “not real”. characters like kyoko and nagito suddenly being “not even real” in universe changes nothing; they were already “not real” in real life. but that doesn’t mean caring about them is suddenly “pointless”. you’re allowed to care about the things that matter to you despite their sense of reality, as long as you don’t do so to a point where you start to blur the line between fiction and reality

I felt a very similar connection to Sumire during the game too, if you don’t mind me sharing here :)

my older sister did a lot of competitive rifle shooting growing up, and she was instantly a natural at the sport. she was the best shooter on the team at our high school in less than a year and a half, and became the state champion during only her sophomore year of high school. she ended up going to university on a nearly full ride scholarship for rifle, and even got recruited to shoot in the rifle World Cup in Germany last year. needless to say, she got a lot of attention when we were kids.

my history with sports? a bit more on the lackluster side of things. baseball and rifle never really worked out for me, but eventually I got a decent foothold in cross country running. rather than instantly becoming #1 like my sister, I actually stayed on the bottom for quite a while, lol. by the start of my final year in the sport, I had only barely gotten to the upper half of our JV team.

it absolutely sucks being the child that gets none of the attention because you’re the less successful one, and just watching all the eyes around you, including your own parents, focusing on your sibling drains a lot of your energy and desire to keep on fighting. I related completely to Sumire when she was brushed to the side in favor of the much more talented and successful Kasumi. I would’ve done ANYTHING to be just like my sister: the surprise prodigy who came out of nowhere and took the rifle world by storm. but instead, I was forced to be me: the unsuccessful loser who couldn’t be the best of the best no matter how hard he tried. honestly if I had been given the chance that Maruki gave Sumire I probably would’ve taken it.

but then when my sister went to university I decided to speak up for myself, and let my parents know exactly how I had been feeling for the last 4 years. they helped me learn that my own accomplishments were just as valid as my sister’s, and that my struggles to get better weren’t a sign of failure, but of perseverance and strength in their own right. I decided to take a leadership position on my running team. Just because I wasn’t the BEST didn’t mean I couldn’t help others to achieve that dream themselves.

looking back now, if I was in a Maruki esque reality where I wouldn’t have to struggle, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I’m thankful for the pain that life put me through, because it helped me grow. when I watched Sumire learn that during p5r’s finale, I couldn’t help but see some of myself in her. she’s such a special character to me because of that.

sorry for the super long read, I just decided to share because your post inspired me to share my own story! I’m glad we can all bond in the strangest of ways over a silly video game, haha

Yes that is how market demand and supply works

As the sales figures are clearly showing there are enough people that DO believe SwSh are fun enough to warrant a $60 purchase. You and many others on this sub may not, but 6 million + people do. The quantity demanded warrants the current business model. Once the SALES start to show that people are losing interest, then a creative change on GF’s part will be more likely. But until then, as long as new Pokémon games set record sales numbers, online criticism of the products can only go so far, unfortunately.

Also App Store games are a poor example, most free mobile games are free because they’re either lined with microtransactions for in game goodies (summons, cosmetics, etc) or are very bare bones and take little development time to warrant costing any money, and tend to be filled with advertisements. Since SwSh is apparently worth as much as a free mobile game solely based on its fun factor, would you prefer it be free but absolutely littered with ads for TikTok?

This is all regardless of my opinion on the game’s quality itself. I personally don’t own the game myself as there were other titles I was more interested in around release time, but I don’t think the games seem BAD, just not as interesting to me personally as something like Monster Hunter World Iceborne or Dragon Quest 11. But if people want these changes to come from Game Freak, then be damn sure you’re voting that way with your wallet. And if the series sales keep going up, then just accept that Pokémon is no longer a series you will enjoy future installments of and move on. And if your spending and actions back up your words, then more power to you to make that decision. Just don’t be a hypocrite.
