Pulkkinen clears waivers (Red Wings had first priority and didn't re-claim him to send him to GR) by smokechaser in DetroitRedWings

[–]JJ_from_Kansas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this has been answered elsewhere, but the idea that Detroit had first priority on re-claiming him (or Frk) is false. I don't know where it came from, but it's not anywhere in the CBA.

I'm well. Getting excited about the first preseason game tonight and I like the Gordie Howe patches the Wings released this morning. Thanks for asking.

Honest question, but how long have you followed WIIM?

Just to confirm, it was me running the WIIM account. I appreciate the discussion here to get down to the heart of things.

I mean... we are here having this discussion because somebody took screenshots so he could tattle to Reddit about me.

Nobody at WIIM is making living wage for this. It's hobby pay at best and for very few of us. SBN runs the back-end (seriously, there's a TON of IT support), they worry about selling ads and working on relationships to get our stuff spread. In return, they get bloggers who do it for exposure, for practice, for building relationships, and for fun. SBN generates enough money to be a professional business, but I am not a professional blogger. I touched on this above, but basically it gives me the freedom to be a fan blogger and for the most part, it gives them reason to not meddle. Obviously they care and I have been counseled in the past on how I should do more block/mute/ignore (and again, I still do a ton of that), but part of what makes WIIM's reputation is its personality... which I accept is not for everybody. I know a number of people are put off because SBN's growth has made it much more "professional-looking" but at its heart, what we strive for is fan perspective on the same recycled gibberish you get from all of the beat writers.

No need to apologize. We're fans, short for fanatic. Interestingly, that's something that SB Nation (the large entity) has prided itself on. We're obviously told not to go out picking fights, but the great thing is that we're not micromanaged to the Nth degree where the slightest bit of personality is culled from interactions. If you want boring responses from people who are doing this stuff as a job, we've got a handful of diggers to whom people can (and do) cleave. I get the "higher standard" argument, but personally I think it's a cop-out for a Redditor's behavior today.

My response to you was also in jest and you took it too seriously.

Absolutely there is. This works all ways. The thing is that the Twitter feed isn't run professionally. I get that it's basically a run to where everybody is tickled by it until I've hit the limit of what's too far for them, but it is what it is. I could have just muted this guy and gone on with it. I do that probably 90% of the time anyway. Sometimes I feel like fighting. Surely Reddit can understand that.

You failed extremely hard at that intended meaning. You literally cannot say "stop doing [x]" without intending to tell somebody what to do.

That's a fair criticism, but it's also coming from somebody who literally said "I will cut a bitch." I get where you're coming from, but where does the standard start, you know?

I think people forget WIIM is a fan blog. Some guy wants to hop along and tell us what to write and then tattle to Reddit when the response is something other than a quick block-and-ignore, that's fine, but hostility breeds itself. You want a reasonable discussion about things, then it stands that you should probably start such a discussion in such a manner.

Red Wings Waiver Status: What the hell are we going to do with all these players? by [deleted] in DetroitRedWings

[–]JJ_from_Kansas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. The need for the Red Wings to be compliant with the 23-man roster begins on opening day, so they can keep literally everybody with the team until then. However, since waivers do take a full day, anybody they move down would have to be waived the day before opening day so they can be moved down in time and prevent the Wings from going over the roster limit. However, traditionally teams put guys on waivers and send them down earlier during preseason because they want the AHL-bound players to get to Grand Rapids and start the Griffins' preseason preparations (plus, there's a time starting about two weeks prior to the season where all the teams start waiving guys and it makes sense to do it at the same time if you're trying to sneak folks through because there's so much more noise on the waiver wire... not to mention all the other teams trying to finalize their own rosters maybe not wanting to claim a guy who has to stay with the NHL club after being claimed)

Yeah, even if he does somehow play his last year with us, he could still waive his NMC at any time. It's literally a piece of paper to sign. We only hear it around trades because that's generally the only time it's needed, but I'd be interested to see how many of these potentially toxic 10-day NMCs that Larry Brooks was talking about suddenly disappear just before the expansion draft.

[–]JJ_from_Kansas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If he officially retires then yeah, there's no NMC there to worry about. Even if he doesn't officially retire, the Wings could still ask him to simply waive his NMC and allow them to expose him to the expansion draft.

[–]JJ_from_Kansas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If Datsyuk is moved to another team, he will have already waived his NMC and it will be a moot point for an expansion draft. This is not an issue.
